She received her B.S. in Applied Arts in Home Economics from Iowa State College in 1929 and her M.ED. in Education and Sociology from Marquette University in 1943. In 1947, Bell was offered a teaching position in the Department of Applied Arts at Texas Technological College. She retired on June 1, 1968 as a Professor Emeritus in Art and passed away on March 27, 1983
