Poems of Sheikh Muhammad al-Ghaly Ba
This volume contains seven poems handwritten by Muhammad al-Ghāli Ba. According to the author's son, Mountaga Ba, the poems were probably composed in the mid-1970s a time when the author lived in Mauritania, while working at the country's national radio station and serving as a special counsel to then president Moktar Ould Daddah (1924–2003). The poems adress various issues. The first is a call to action addressed to the Mauritianian youth, urging them to join in the collective work for the development of the country. The second poem is a hagiography on Ceerno Ahmad Nene Ba of Kaedi (Mauritania). The poem eulogizes the virtues of the patron. The third describes the event of Sharif Muhammad al-Habib's visit to the region of Fuuta region (Senegal), namely the village of Pate Galo. The fourth poem contains greetings and expresions of love addressed to the author's friends in the town of Kaedi. The fifth poem is a remembrance about good times. The author reminisces and praises the qualities of a woman named Jaari. The sixth poem describes one afternoon journey of the author. The seventh poem is a mournful praisesong in which the author laments the loss of a cherished person.
Growth rate and superconducting properties of Gd-Ba-Cu-O bulk superconductors melt processed in air
A generic Mg-doped Nd-Ba-Cu-O seed crystal has been developed recently for the fabrication of any type of rare earth (RE) based (RE)-Ba-Cu-O single grain bulk superconductor in air. The new generic seed simplifies significantly the top seeded melt growth (TSMG) process for light rare earth based (Nd, Sm, Gd, or mixed rare earth elements) bulk superconductors, in particular. GdBCO single grains have been fabricated successfully in air using the new seed in a cold-seeding process. In this study, precursor powders were enriched with different amounts of BaO2 to investigate the extent of substitution of Gd for Ba in the Gd1+xBa2-xCu3O7-delta solid solution phase. The growth process of large single grains in air was investigated at various growth temperatures under isothermal processing conditions. Crystal growth rate as a function of under-cooling and BaO2 content has been determined from these experiments. The spatial variation of Tc and transition temperature width for applied field aligned along the a/b and c-axis of grains fabricated with different BaO2 content has also been investigated in order to understand the extent of the formation of Gd/Ba solid solution with varying growth temperature and precursor composition. These results have been used to establish the optimum conditions for fabricating solid solution-free, large single grains of GdBCO in air
A Matter of “Ba”: Knowledge Creation and Dissemination By Library Faculty at Grand Valley State University
What is “ba”? I am not a Japanese-speaker; I’m not deeply acquainted with Japanese culture. But in reading about ba and “learning organizations” and knowledge creation, it’s been very easy for me to discern seeds of ba at Grand Valley. In the effort underway for several years now to allow each discipline to define its own benchmarks and best practices, to develop its own specific guidelines for progress toward tenure and promotion, I see elements of ba. In support systems such as the Pew Faculty Teaching & Learning Center and its programs, I perceive ba. And most significantly, in the effort to establish a common basic teaching load, and to negotiate annually with each individual faculty member how he or she will focus for the year ahead on professional excellence, professional scholarship and achievement, and professional service, I see great potential for ba. But I’m getting ahead of myself …
