Acoustic agglomeration with addition of sprayed liquid droplets: Three-dimensional discrete element modeling and experimental verification

    No full text
Acoustic agglomeration is an aerosol preconditioning technology in which intense sound field is applied to promote relative motions and rapid agglomeration among particles. In order to improve the acoustic agglomeration efficiency and reduce its energy consumption, the method of adding liquid droplets into the aerosol was proposed and demonstrated to be effective. However, modeling and theoretical prediction of this process has been still lacking until now. In this paper, a three-dimensional discrete element modeling of aerosol acoustic agglomeration with addition of sprayed liquid droplets is established, which includes the agglomeration mechanisms of orthokinetic interaction, acoustic wake effect, gravity force and Brownian random force. In particular, the immersion mechanism is employed to describe the microscopic formation of aggregates. In addition, the multiple-time-step algorithm and the contact detection method based on a search grid are employed to speed up the simulation. Meanwhile, the corresponding experiments using coal-fired fly ash particles were performed to validate the simulation. It is found that the results of the discrete element modeling simulation are in reasonable good agreement with the experimental results, for both cases with and without the addition of water droplets. However, when the agglomeration efficiency exceeds 80% at the later stage of the process, some discrepancy is observed due to the breakage of large aggregates which is not taken into consideration in the modeling.Guangxue Zhang, Jinqing Wang, Zuohe Chi, Eric H

Infusing digital creativity in design, the low fidelity way

    No full text
In (industrial) design projects, digital and non-digital aspects are often seen as two separate design 'tracks'. Due to advances in our social and technological context, the hard boundary between the digital and the non-digital is fading. This is a challenge for the designer since he needs to be creative with digital technology without necessarily having a technical background. Using the lillidot method introduced in this paper an exploration was done concerning the feasibility of creating a low fidelity design "kit" in order to facilitate the infusion of digital aspects in design.Industrial DesignIndustrial Design Engineerin

Literature review of climate change impact induced migration

    No full text
Climate change impacts seem to be clearly over the world, especially, regions vulnerable to climate change and low resilience capacity. Climate change induced migration have also presented in these areas. This paper is the first step of research on human displacement caused by impacts of climate change and reasons making the vulnerable people to move on as well as where migrants resettle. The result of this review shows clearly that climate change is happening in Ho Chi Minh city and people who live in low-lying areas over the world are displacing by their environmental change causing by dreadful weather or climate. The paper used traditional methods to collect and classify materials related to the topic. The research suggests that people will displace because of their likelihood affected by climate change, besides, the review is basic for the author to carry out impact of climate change on Saigonist migration in the future

This paper introduces art and research on disrupted, touch in networked environments in which realities merge. Aesthetic sensory disruption and haptic distribution are purposefully designed for reflection, in a new type of ‘dialogue space’. The effects of embodied cognition, with respect to trust and experience, are explored in Artistic Social Labs (ASLs) designed to this purpose. Two ASLs are described in this paper.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.System Engineerin

    Chi Square

    No full text
This resource, created by author David M. Lane, defines and explains Chi square. It takes the user through 5 different categories: testing differences between p and pi, more than two categories, chi-square test of independence, reporting results, exercises. This basic resource provides students with a much greater understanding of this testing process. Overall, it would be good for any statistics classroom

Factors influencing the continuance intention of Momo e-wallet: An empirical study using sem in Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City

    No full text
The research aims to identify the factors that influence continuance intention towards the MoMo e-wallet of customers living in Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City. This study extends the Theory of Planned Behavior and Technology Acceptance Model by integrating situational normality and security perceptions in fintech adoption. Using a convenient sampling technique, the author has collected data from 248 respondents in Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City, then proceeded to analyze the data to achieve research objectives. Accordingly, descriptive statistics, Cronbach’s Alpha reliability test, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling analysis methods were performed thoughout the thesis. The results reveal that all thirteen hypothesized paths are statistically significant. Out of the accepted results, Trust significantly impacts continuance intention (β = 0.58, p < 0.01), while perceived security has a moderate effect (β = 0.41, p < 0.05), are the most profound because they explain the success of MoMo in the highly competitive market of fintech and banking apps. Also, there is a significant means difference in terms of continuance intention among people in Can Tho City and Ho Chi Minh City
