Investigations into tilt angles and order of cutting sequences for cutting head design of roadheaders
0000-0003-1865-1824WOS: 000430899600014This paper explains optimum arrangement of gauge tools and corner cutting picks for cutting head design of roadheaders. Full-scale simulation of roadheaders cutting heads of practical types with a wide range of tilt angles was carried out through laboratory linear cutting experiments. The trials showed that optimum tilt angle for corner cutting picks was approximately equal to the half breakout angle of the rock, and corner cutting picks acted as gauge tools after this value. Tilt angles greater than the optimum value were not recommended for both gauge and corner cutting picks, due to poor cutting efficiency and tool holder problems. Higher specific energy was found when the order of cutting sequences of unparalleled axis tools (the gauge tools) was arranged to start cutting from nose side of the cutting head than that of the opposite direction. The parallel axis tools on road headers cutting heads were, however, understood to be not affected by the order of cutting sequences. Furthermore, the effective area method which was previously suggested for tool force calculation of parallel axis tools was also verified for unparalleled axis tools investigated in this research study.Turkish Coal Enterprises (TKI)Ministry of Energy & Natural Resources - TurkeyThe author is grateful to Dr. R.J. A pick force calculation method suggested for tool lacing of mechanical excavators employing drag tools
0000-0003-1865-1824WOS: 000455587700003This paper deals with tool lacing design of partial-face cutting machines employed for mechanical excavations of rocks, coal and stones. A rational comparison between relief cutting and groove deepening was made by simulating actual cutting actions of picks under the same conditions at different spacing to depth ratios, respectively, through full-scale laboratory linear cutting experiments with radial and point attack tools. It was found that the top portion of a groove with approximately polygonal-shaped cross section has no significant effect on the magnitude of tool forces. The effective cutting was understood to take place mainly in the lower portion of this cross section, termed effective area', which is encompassed by a triangle with an apex angle twice the breakout angle of unrelieved groove. This finding has led to the introduction of a pick force calculation method for computer assessment of tool lacing for rock, coal and stone cutting machines. The effective area' of cross sections which were calculated by this method, was found to be in good correlation with corresponding measured tool forces. The method is simple and free from assumptions which have to be specified for various pick cutting position. It was also verified by the results of some experimental data of previous investigations.Turkish Coal Enterprises (TKI)Ministry of Energy & Natural Resources - TurkeyThe author wishes to thank Dr R. Location choice under trade and environmental policies
Orbay, Benan Zeki (Dogus Author)In this paper, we use a game theoretic model to analyze the trade-off between the attractiveness of FDI and the environmental damage caused by production under asymmetric information. In the first stage, the domestic developing country reveals the level of import tariff and pollution tax under information uncertainty about the environmental damage that the foreign firm can cause. The foreign firm from a developed country decides where to locate afterwards with complete information about its own damage. Results show that the developing country can be better off encouraging FDI if and only if the marginal damage of pollution is sufficiently low. The optimal level of pollution taxes attracting FDI is higher than the marginal damage of pollution. However, the optimal pollution tax without FDI can be lower than the marginal damage of pollution with sufficiently high demand in the developing country
Islamic Spirituality: Theology and Practice for the Modern World
Islamic Spirituality: Theology and Practice for the Modern World examines and explores the inner dimension of Islam. The writings of important figures in the historical development of Islamic spirituality are examined, as well as the major sources of religious authority in Islam, the Qur\u27an and Hadith.
Both classical Sufis and Sufism are explored as well as contemporary mystics. Key figures discussed include medieval Islamic theologian al-Ghazali (d.1111), and Said Nursi (d.1960), arguably one of the most important modern theologians in the Islamic spiritual tradition. Discussing both historical and contemporary dimensions of Islamic spirituality allows the author to ground classical Sufi texts in contemporary ideas and practices. Exploring spirituality in relation to key contemporary issues such as ecology, Zeki Saritoprak demonstrates how, when, and where people can practice Islamic spirituality in the Modern world.
Providing an overview of the intellectual and theological basis of Islamic spirituality, and including the author\u27s own translations of a selection of key texts, this volume is ideal reading for courses exploring Islamic spirituality and mysticism and anyone interested in the spiritual practices of nearly a quarter of the world\u27s population

Jesus in Islam
Professor Saritoprak will examine the place of Jesus in the Qur\u27an and Hadith. He will present the topic of Jesus in Islam from Islamic theological perspectives including both classical and contemporary theologians\u27 views of Jesus. Like Christians, Muslims, in general, also believe in the second coming of Jesus, known in Islam as the descent of Jesus. Dr. Saritoprak will highlight different Islamic theological approaches to Jesus\u27s descent. Finally, he will discuss the important role Jesus can play in interfaith dialogue.
Zeki Saritoprak is professor in the department of theology and religious studies and the Bediüzzaman Said Nursi Chair in Islamic Studies at John Carroll University in Cleveland. He holds a Ph.D. in Islamic theology from the University of Marmara in Turkey. Professor Saritoprak is the author of Islam’s Jesus (2014) and over thirty academic articles and encyclopedia entries on topics in Islam. He has served as guest editor for issues of the journals Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations and The Muslim World. He is editor and co-translator of Fundamentals of Rumi’s Thought: A Mevlevi Sufi Perspective (2004) and the editor of a critical edition of al-Sarakhsi’s Sifat Ashrat al-Sa’a (in Arabic; Cairo, 1993). He is currently preparing a book on Islamic spirituality tentatively titled Islamic Spirituality: Theology and Practice for the Modern World.

The Bashkir Turkish Historian and Statesman Ahmet Zeki Velidi Togan (1890–1970) in Bonn, 1935–1938
In the article the author deals with the years the famous Turkologist and historian Ahmet Zeki Velidi Togan (1890–1970), who is known for his great edition of the 10th-century Arabic travel account of Ibn Faḍlān was working and teaching at Rheinische Friedrich- Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn (1935–1938). Various documents relating to events from this period are reproduced in the article (including his appointment to the Oriental Seminar at the university, his appointment as a member of the Finno-Ugric Society in Helsinki, his appointment as an honorary professor, a research stay in Turkey, his leave of absence to carry out a lectureship at the Georg August University in Göttingen, and finally his defence in response to accusations regarding his “political reliability”, which are not known in detail. This defence was made both by Paul Kahle and by himself in the form of an account of his political activities in the years 1917–1929, the full text of which is appended and which was later also used by Togan himself in his autobiography
Revenue and turnover in relation with staff changes
Many Human Resources professionals wonder about the relationship between turnover and revenue. The main reason of that is an assumption which turnover has a negative impact on performance and revenue. With this assumption, many human resources department managers consider a lot of high cost applications to decrease personnel turnover. This research proves there is no relationship between personnel turnover and revenue in terms of cause and effect issues in the retail sector. However, personnel turnover has a positive effect on revenue
