Charles Zuber discusses the way in which theoretical issues influence artwork as well as the ethical issues at stake in appropriating existing images from various forms of popular culture. He talks about his artwork for a comic strip entitled Sheriff Shrub, and other artwork produced for his PhD Islands of the imagination : representations of the Indonesian spice islands from the pre-colonial to the post-colonial

    Strong anonymity and infinite streams.

    No full text
The extended rank-discounted utilitarian social welfare order introduced and axiomatized by Stéphane Zuber and Geir B. Asheim satisfies strong anonymity (J. Econ. Theory (2011), doi:10.1016/j.jet.2011.08.001). We question the appropriateness of strong anonymity in the context of a countably infinite sequence of subsequent generations. A modified criterion that is incomplete and satisfies finite anonymity is presented.

Artykuł obejmuje krótkie biografie trzech wybitnych polskich geologów, naukowców, podróżników i patriotów z rodziny Zuberów – Rudolfa, Stanisława i Andrzeja, czyli ojca, syna i wnuka. The paper contains short biographies of three prominent Polish geologists, scientists, travellers and patriots of the Zuber family – Rudolf, Stanisław and Andrzej, father, son and grandson. Main occupation of Rudolf was exploration of oil deposits. His experience was of high value for many oil companies and countries that made their development dependent on the oil industry. On his scientific journeys he reached every inhabited part of the world, excluding Australia. In Krynica, he discovered a unique water that is among the strongest alkaline acidic waters in Europe. He is also the author of a fundamental publication, titled Flysh and crude oil which was an important and classical geological work of those times. His son, Stanislaw Zuber, started his professional career from participation in oil exploration in the Baku (Azerbaijan) and East Caucasus regions. His exploratory work in Albania resulted in the discovery of the main oil fields in this country – Kuçova–Lushnja, Murriz–Pekisht and Patos–Cakran–Selenica. He is presently regarded as the father of modern geology of Albania. Andrzej Zuber, son of Kazimierz, Stanislaw’s brother and grandson of Rudolf was also involved in several activities abroad (Kenya, Brazil, Mexico, Thailand, India). His main interests were connected with investigations of the environmental logograms of the common, mineral and thermal waters. Among different hydrogeological problems, he put special attention to determination of the genesis and recharge areas of the Krynica mineral waters. It could be considered as the continuation of his grandfather’s work

This chapter sets the scene for the focus of this book through discussion of a voluntary network organization that fosters self-directed, collaborative, lifelong action learning, social inclusion and justice, participatory action research, and democratic, shared and distributed action leadership through maintaining a learning conference culture. The chapter is based on our personal experience as co-founders of ALARA and on our previous publication (Zuber-Skerritt & Passfield, 2016a).Arts, Education & Law Group, Griffith Institute for Educational ResearchNo Full Tex

Zubery to unikatowe wody mineralne w skali światowej. Na podstawie badań prowadzonych w ramach Ruchu Uzdrowiskowego Zakładu Górniczego w Krynicy-Zdroju i wyników analiz fizykochemicznych określono zróżnicowanie składu fizykochemicznego szczawy typu Zuber z poszczególnych odwiertów. Mineralizacja szczaw typu Zuber waha się od 16 575–29 260 mg/dm3, a zawartość CO2 od 880 do 2984 mg/dm3.Zuber is a unique water type across the world due to its mineralization and the content of individual components. This carbonated water is used in balneotherapy. On the basis of both research carried out as part of the spa activity of the Mining Plant in Krynica-Zdrój and the results of physicochemical analysis, the physiochemical composition of Zuber carbonated waters was determined in some wells. Two types of Zuber have been distinguished: HCO3–Na (Zuber I, Zuber III and Zuber IV) and HCO3–Na–Mg (Zuber II). The main components affecting the chemical type of the waters are the HCO3 – anion and the Na2+ cation, as well as the Mg2+ ion that is available only in the Zuber II carbonated water. The HCO3 – content varies from 10.841 to 19.969 mg/dm3, Na2+ from 3.369 to 9.650 mg/dm3, and Mg2+ from 145 to 802 g/dm3. The mineralization of the Zuber carbonated waters varies from 16.575–29.260 g/dm3, and the CO2 content is between 880 and 2.984 mg/dm3

This interview with Christiane Klapisch-Zuber was held in Lyon on 2 February 2013, after a meeting of the editorial board of Clio FGH, of which we have both been members since the journal started in 1995. Conducted over three hours, its purpose was to hear Christiane’s account of her commitment during the Algerian war on behalf of the Algerian nationalists, and in particular of her time in the women’s prison La Roquette, where she was held after her arrest. In preparation for the interview, C..
