The Distribution, Excitation, And Abundance Of Ch+ In Orion Kl

    No full text
The CH+^+ ion was one of the first molecules identified in the interstellar gas more than 75 years ago, but the high observed abundances of CH+^+ remain a puzzle, because the main reaction proposed for the formation of CH+^+, {\it viz.}, C++H2CH++H\mathrm{C^{+} + H_{2} \rightarrow CH^{+} + H}, is so endothermic (4640~K), that it is unlikely to proceed at the typical temperatures of molecular clouds. One way in which the high endothermicity may be overcome, is if a significant fraction of the H2_2 is vibrationally excited, as is the case in dense molecular gas exposed to intense far-ultraviolet radiation fields. Elucidating the formation of CH+^+ in molecular clouds requires characterization of its spatial distribution, as well as that of the key reactants in the chemical pathways yielding CH+^+. Here we present high-resolution spectral mACS of the two lowest rotational transitions of CH+^+ and the fine structure transition of C+^+ in a 3×3\sim 3^{\prime} \times 3^{\prime} region around the Orion Kleinmann-Low (KL) nebula, obtained with the {\em Herschel Space Observatory's} Heterodyne Instrument for the Far-Infrared (HIFI).\footnote{These observations were done as part of the Herschel observations of EXtraordinary sources: the Orion and Sagittarius star-forming regions (HEXOS) Key Programme, led by E. A. Bergin at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI.} We compare these mACS to those of CH+^+ and C+^+ in the Orion Bar photodissociation region (PDR), and discuss the excitation and abundance of CH+^+ toward Orion KL in the context of chemical and radiative transfer models, which have recently been successfully applied to the Orion Bar PDR.\footnote{Nagy, Z. et al. 2013, A\&A 550, A96}Made available in DSpace on 2014-09-17T16:55:36Z (GMT). Ellenszélben: Füssi Nagy Géza, az Afrika-tudós alakjára emlékezve

    No full text
Szilárd Biernaczky’s work Ellenszélben aims to present the scholarly legacy and personality of Géza Füssi Nagy. The publication includes his Africanist writings, book reviews, and texts reflecting his deep commitment to African cultures. The author also reflects on the academic environment in which Füssi Nagy worked, noting that despite being an exceptional teacher and researcher, he was unable to fully realize his professional ambitions. The book’s goal is to preserve and make accessible Füssi Nagy’s intellectual legacy to all those interested in African culture.

Recollections and Reflections on László Moholy-Nagy

    No full text
In 1937, artist László Moholy-Nagy directed a new school based on Bauhaus principles, The New Bauhaus: American School of Design, in Chicago. Although the school lasted only one year, Moholy-Nagy soon reorganized it as the School of Design in Chicago and then as the Institute of Design, which was later incorporated into the Illinois Institute of Technology. The author conducted numerous telephone and in-person interviews with teachers and students of the school to find insight into Moholy-Nagy’s teaching and working methods, the unusual pedagogy of the school across its iterations and the camaraderie and mutual support felt by the students at this exciting place and time. </jats:p

The CH+^+ ion was one of the first molecules identified in the interstellar gas over 75 years ago, and is postulated to be a key species in the initial steps of interstellar carbon chemistry. The high observed abundances of CH+^+ in the interstellar gas remain a puzzle, because the main production pathway of CH+^+, {it viz.}, mathrmC++H2rightarrowCH++Hmathrm{C^{+} + H_{2} rightarrow CH^{+} + H}, is so endothermic (4640~K), that it is unlikely to proceed at the typical temperatures of molecular clouds. One way in which the high endothermicity may be overcome, is if a significant fraction of the H2_2 is vibrationally excited, as is the case in molecular gas exposed to intense far-ultraviolet radiation fields. Here we present high-resolution spectral maps of the two lowest rotational transitions of CH+^+, the fine structure transition of C+^+, and the hyperfine-split fine structure transitions of CH in a sim3primetimes3primesim 3^{prime} times 3^{prime} region around the Orion Kleinmann-Low (KL) nebula, obtained with the {em Herschel Space Observatory's} Heterodyne Instrument for the Far-Infrared (HIFI).footnote{These observations were done as part of the Herschel observations of EXtraordinary sources: the Orion and Sagittarius star-forming regions (HEXOS) Key Programme, led by E. Grammatica - ancilla stylisticae : egy Nagy László-vers nyelvtani elemzése

    No full text
The author wishes to explore the components of the formal perfection in this well known poem of Nagy László by a grammatical analysis. The examination of the sentence structures and the word-stock proves that the poet could convert traditional folkoristic forms and old stylistic concepts in order to create an original composition with steady hand even in his earliest period
