Objective: To explore the prevalence and distinctive features of Xue-Fu-Zhu-Yu-Tang (XFZYT) prescriptions by analyzing the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) to identify the specific medical problems for which XFZYT is prescribed.Methods: This nationwide, population-based, cross-sectional study included 109,073 XFZYT users and 532,848 XFZYT non-users among Chinese herbal product (CHP) users in NHIRD. Chi-squared tests were used to analyze disparities between the XFZYT user and XFZYT non-user cohorts, and the mean age was evaluated using the Wilcoxon rank-sum test. Logistic regression was used to compute the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs).Results: XFZYT was frequently used to treat pain. The top five conditions for which the Taiwanese traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioners would prescribe XFZYT were chest pain; headache; myalgia and myositis; lumbago; and neuralgia, neuritis, and radiculitis.Conclusion: This study represents an inaugural comprehensive survey conducted on the utilization of XFZYT prescriptions among patients with diverse diseases. XFZYT is mostly used to treat pain conditions in Taiwan. Combined with the combination use of other CHPs, XFZYT is used to treat symptoms of the chest and respiratory system, soft tissue conditions, menstruation disorders, and joint and back discomfort. These results suggest that further clinical trials are warranted to verify the effects of XFZYT in pain management.</p

Pholcus jixianensis Zhu & Yu, 1983 (Fig. 19) Pholcus jixianensis Zhu & Yu, 1983, in Zhu, Mao & Yu 1983: 136, f. 2a–h. Diagnosis. Similar to P. suizhongicus, but can be distinguished from it by the shape of the tip of the procursus (Figs. 19E–F), by the short thumb-shaped appendix (Fig. 19E); and by the longer ventral apophysis of the trochanter (Fig. 19C). Redescription. Male: A specimen measured (‘allotype’, data copied from Zhu, Mao and Yu 1983), total length 5.0: cephalothorax 1.6 long, 1.6 wide; abdomen 3.4 long, 1.6 wide. Leg I: 40.9 (9.4+12.5+16.5+2.5). Carapace short, broad and almost circular, ochre, with brown mark broadly connecting to ocular area. Cephalic region raised, with brown central marks, ocular area dark yellow. Clypeus slightly ochre, with yellow marks. Chelicerae with pair of black apophyses distally and pair of unsclerotized rounded apophyses proximolaterally. Labium and endites yellow. Sternum slightly ochre, with some regular yellow marks on it. Femora, patellae and tibiae ochre, with dark rings, metatarsi and tarsi brown. Abdomen cylindrical, pale ochre, dorsum with pairs of brown spots on it. Venter pale brown, without marks. Palps as in Figs. 19E and 19F, bulb with ear-shaped uncus and a small thumb-shaped appendix. Procursus as in Fig. 19D. Female: in general very similar to male. A specimen measured (holotype, data copied from Zhu, Mao and Yu 1983), total length 5.3: cephalothorax 1.8 long, 1.8 wide; abdomen 3.5 long, 1.45 wide. Epigynum roughly rectangular as in Fig. 19A, with a small knob-shaped apophysis centrally. Dorsal view as in Fig. 19B, with a door-like sclerotized arch anteriorly and a pair of pine-cone pore plates. Distribution. Known from type locality only. Material. Types. Female holotype, male ‘allotype’ (labeled 82001), collected under a stone near the river, Lianhe Village, Ji County, Tianjin Municipality, China, July 30, 1982, leg. Z. X. Comprehensive Qualitative Ingredient Profiling of Chinese Herbal Formula Wu-Zhu-Yu Decoction via a Mass Defect and Fragment Filtering Approach Using High Resolution Mass Spectrometry
The Wu-Zhu-Yu decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine formula for the treatment of headache. To reveal its material basis, a rapid and reliable liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry method was established for comprehensive profiling of the chemical ingredients in the Wu-Zhu-Yu decoction. The method was used on a quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer along with an advanced data processing procedure consisting of mass accuracy screening, mass defect filtering and fragment filtering. After eliminating interference with a filtering approach, the MS data profiling was made more distinct and accurate. With the optimized conditions of only 35 min LC separation and single sample injection of each positive or negative ion mode, a total of 168 compounds were characterized, including 23 evodiamine and its analogous alkaloids, 12 limonoids, 17 gingerols, 38 ginsenosides, 15 flavonoids, 16 organic acids, 14 alkaloids, 5 saponins, 3 2,2-dimethylchromenes and 25 other compounds. The fragmentation patterns of representative compounds were illustrated as well. Integrative qualitative analysis of the Wu-Zhu-Yu decoction by high resolution mass spectrometry was accomplished and reported for the first time. The study demonstrated that the established method was a powerful and reliable strategy for comprehensive detection and would be widely applicable for identification of complicated components from herbal prescriptions, and may provide a basis for chemical analysis of other complex mixtures
