Automatic three-dimensional surface area measurement for vitiligo lesions

Monitoring changes in vitiligo lesion area allows assessment of treatment efficacy and aids in clinical decision making. Currently existing approaches for vitiligo lesion measurement are either inefficient or inaccurate. Using a RGB-D camera (Kinect) and imaging processing techniques, we develop an automated skin lesion screening system (VLAMS) that can be widely adopted in clinics. Modelling, Design, and Fabrication of High-Temperature Compatible Vacuum Gauges in Silicon Carbide
The demand for monitoring vacuum level at a high temperature is growing rapidly. For instance, in the semiconductor industry, the deposition process of many thin films is conducted in a high-temperature environment where the vacuum needs to be precisely monitored and controlled. Although a number of micro-fabricated vacuum gauges which show great performances have been implemented by silicon technology, they are not dedicated for high-temperature applications. The traditional Si-based sensor will lose its functionality when it is exposed to high temperature because of the degradation of the silicon. This research work focuses on the implementation of a high-temperature compatible vacuum gauge, and the aim is to achieve an operation temperature (i.e. 500 ◦C) compatible with current high-temperature compatible electronics reported in the literature. The combination of poly-SiC and micro-bridge based vacuum gauge is proposed as a feasible solution. The fabrication of the vacuum gauge is conducted at the EKL cleanroom, and Pirani gauges with various geometries are fabricated by employing thin-film technologies for deposition and lithography for defining patterns. The gauge with a length up 1000 μm and a gap size down to 500 nm is achieved without any buckling. The fabrication process is a four-mask step, and it provides the potential for mass production and integration with readout electronics. The micro-fabricated Pirani gauge showed good measurement results. Empirical Pirani gauge design rules were confirmed by experiments. It is confirmed that a longer beam and a smaller gap size will bring a larger dynamic range. At room temperature, the nominal gauge (length = 250 μm, width = 8 μm, thickness = 2 μm and gap distance = 500 nm) shows a maximum resistance change of 17.8 % from around 10 Pa to 100000 Pa, with a maximum sensitivity of 0.44 Ω/Pa. The vacuum gauge also showed a successful operation up to 750 ◦C, with a maximum sensitivity of 0.787 mV/Pa (1.097 Ω/Pa). Although the high-temperature compatible gauge is successfully fabricated, some issues, such as the rectifying behaviour of Ti/SiC junctions and the non-uniformity of poly-SiC deposition, are still unsolved. Enterprise social media in contemporary workplaces: a computational literature review
Enterprise social media (ESM)—digital platforms that support internal communication, collaboration, and knowledge sharing—have revolutionized contemporary workplaces, particularly amid the growing prevalence of hybrid and remote work. Despite their growing significance, questions persist regarding the impacts of ESM on organizations and the conditions necessary for their effective implementation and management. To address this gap, we conducted a computational literature review of 320 peer-reviewed articles published from 2013 to 2024, utilizing the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling algorithm to provide a comprehensive survey of ESM research. Our analysis pinpoints three central themes: ESM enactment process, micro-level impacts (e.g., job performance), and macro-level outcomes (e.g., strategic knowledge management). We also observe increasing scholarly attention to emerging ESM-mediated behaviors, digital competence, and the interplay between ESM and public social media. We propose an integrative framework that positions ESM enactment as a dynamic, multi-level process and outline a research agenda for future inquiry. By consolidating a decade of scholarship, this review provides timely insights and guidance for advancing theoretical understanding and effective use of ESM in today’s digital workplaces
Habituation based synaptic plasticity and organismic learning in a quantum perovskite
A central characteristic of living beings is the ability to learn from and respond to their environment leading to habit formation and decision making. This behavior, known as habituation, is universal among all forms of life with a central nervous system, and is also observed in single-cell organisms that do not possess a brain. Here, we report the discovery of habituation-based plasticity utilizing a perovskite quantum system by dynamical modulation of electron localization. Microscopic mechanisms and pathways that enable this organismic collective charge-lattice interaction are elucidated by first-principles theory, synchrotron investigations, ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, and in situ environmental breathing studies. We implement a learning algorithm inspired by the conductance relaxation behavior of perovskites that naturally incorporates habituation, and demonstrate learning to forget: A key feature of animal and human brains. Incorporating this elementary skill in learning boosts the capability of neural computing in a sequential, dynamic environment.United States. Empirical Analysis of Financing Efficiency and Constraints Effects on the Green Innovation of Green Supply Chain Enterprises: A Case Study of China
Along with the deterioration of environmental problems, the green supply chain has become an important strategy for Chinese enterprises to improve their competitiveness in the global market. Most enterprises in green supply chains have promoted their green innovation and thus have improved their green performance by managing upstream and downstream enterprises. However, the green innovation capability might be also related to the financing efficiency and financing constraints of enterprises. To reveal the impact of financing efficiency and financing constraints on corporate green innovation, we conducted an empirical study. We considered a sample of 120 listed companies of the green supply chain from 2018 to 2020. The financing efficiency score was calculated using the input–output analysis method of data envelopment analysis, while the financing constraint score was measured using the financing constraints model. Further, multiple linear regression was used to estimate the regression coefficient and investigate the impacts of financing efficiency and financing constraints on corporate green innovation. The results show that a higher financing efficiency can promote green innovation and the financing constraints can limit the green innovation of green supply chain enterprises. Review and Prospects of Green Innovation Ecosystems from the Perspective of Value Emergence
With the rise of research on the integration of emergence theory and complex systems, value emergence has become a new model of value creation in green innovation ecosystems. Exploring the research status of green innovation ecosystems from the perspective of value emergence has become a research hotspot in the field of management science. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to use bibliometric methods, explore the current research status of green innovation ecosystems from the perspective of value emergence, and, more importantly, provide a future direction for the integration of emergence theory into complex systems. In this paper, a search was conducted in the Web of Science and CNKI databases, with a time limit from 2009 to May 2023, and through further screening, 159 articles were collected, and CiteSpace software (CiteSpace.6.3.R1) was used for visualizing and exploring bibliometric networks. This study innovatively introduce the value emergence perspective in the context of green innovation ecosystems. The basic interaction, dynamic promotion, and feedback loop of value emergence are taken as the research framework, and the generation mechanism and dynamic evolution of the green innovation ecosystem are analyzed. Finally, three prospects for future research are presented: How do green innovation entities generate basic resources? How do digital transformation and dynamic capabilities promote emerging value? How do internal models and external identifiers promote feedback loops? This paper is highly important for promoting theoretical exploration in the field of green innovation research
International students’ social media use: an integrative review of research over a decade
As advancements in technology rapidly progress and the enrollment of international students continues to increase concurrently, understanding the impact of social media on their experiences has become an area of significant academic interest in the recent decade. This integrative review employs a hybrid review approach, integrating bibliometric analysis with structured review, to provide a comprehensive overview and systematic synthesis of the literature on social media use among international students. One hundred twenty-one studies retrieved from the Web of Science database were analyzed to delineate the evolution of the field and identify the influential journals. The paper further proposes an integrative framework that thematically summarizes the phenomenon, aiming to highlight the potent components in students’ transitions. Navigating the dual effects of human resource analytics on social sustainability
Purpose:
Human resource analytics (HRA) is increasingly recognized as transformative for workforce decisions and critical in organizations’ digital strategy. However, there is limited discussion on HRA’s impact on social sustainability – another corporate strategic priority. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of how HRA implementation affects various dimensions of social sustainability.
Design/methodology/approach:
The research maps the impact of HRA practices and applications onto the five social sustainability principles outlined by Missimer et al. (2017).
Findings:
The analysis reveals that HRA can both promote and undermine social sustainability across the five principles. Practical recommendations are provided to foster positive impacts and mitigate unintended consequences.
Originality/value:
This paper provides a holistic account on HRA’s impact on social sustainability.
