    Assessment of Self-Archiving in Institutional Repositories: Depositorship and Full-Text Availability

    This research evaluates the success of open access self-archiving in several well-known institutional repositories. Two assessment factors have been applied to examine the current practice of self-archiving: depositorship and the availability of full text. This research discovers that the rate of author self-archiving is low and that the majority of documents have been deposited by a librarian or administrative staff. Similarly, the rate of full-text availability is relatively low, except for Australian repositories. By identifying different practices of self-archiving, repository managers can create new strategies for the operation of their repositories and the development of archiving policies

    Fabbisogni energetici per edifici caratterizzanti il terziario in Italia: aspetti termici ed illuminotecnici

    Il presente lavoro verte sull'individuazione di benchmark di fabbisogno energetico per edifici di riferimento con destinazione d'uso non-residenziale. In particolare, si intende fornire profili tipo di domanda energetica per l'illuminazione artificiale, al fine di valutarne l'effetto sui profili di fabbisogno di energia per la climatizzazione estiva ed invernale, nonché di individuare le variabili che maggiormente incidono sulla loro determinazione. Per giungere a questi risultati, ci si avvale dell'uso di programmi informatici di simulazione dinamica riconosciuti ed impiegati a livello scientifico, in ambito europeo ed extraeuropeo (Energy Plus). La ricerca viene condotta sotto vari aspetti: architettonico, energetico e ambientale. Il primo obiettivo, partendo dalle indicazioni bibliografiche, legislative e normative, è quello di caratterizzare in modo univoco gli edifici di riferimento per le varie destinazioni d'uso oggetto di analisi: edifici per l'istruzione, ed edifici terziari. Gli edifici di riferimento intendono costituire archetipi rappresentativi del patrimonio edilizio italiano. Il secondo obiettivo è di tipo energetico: si intende definire profili tipo di domanda energetica per l'illuminazione artificiale degli ambienti. Si intendono inoltre valutare contestualmente i fabbisogni energetici netti per il riscaldamento e il raffrescamento degli ambienti. L'obiettivo finale è riuscire a determinare le migliori soluzioni progettuali per la minimizzazione del fabbisogno di energia connesso all'illuminazione, in relazione alle destinazioni d'uso dei differenti edifici, nonché le variabili che più incidono per indirizzare al meglio le attenzioni progettuali in caso di nuova realizzazione. Il presente lavoro, dopo un primo inquadramento generale in cui si delinea quello che è lo stato dell'arte della valutazione dei fabbisogni energetici e della ricerca scientifica in materia di illuminazione artificiale di ambienti non residenziali, passa poi ad indagare il significato di archetipo e a definire degli archetipi edilizi per il patrimonio immobiliare costruito a destinazione d'uso scolastica e terziaria. Successivamente vengono descritti i modelli di calcolo impiegati e sono dettagliati i dati di input impiegati per la loro definizione. Sono infine esplicati i risultati ottenuti, con individuazione dei valori di benchmark energetico per gli archetipi edilizi scolastici e terziari, e con l'analisi di quelle che sono le grandezze maggiormente influenti sul fabbisogno energetico per illuminazion

    In the age of information explosion and technological advancement, issues of information storage, organization, access, and evaluation have become necessarily important in our societies. Addressing issues of information literacy and designing how they can be best integrated in students' learning process are of critical importance. Library professionals in the United States, particularly in the academia, have realized the importance of information literacy and have attempted in various ways to address these issues. The ultimate goal is to make information literacy an integral part of the academic curriculum, thus helping students to succeed not only during their years in college but also for their lifelong career choices. This article will look at ways of how information literacy can best be incorporated into students' academic experience, and how this process can make students' learning meaningful and successful.     In this paper, we compute the generalized Hausdorff and packing dimensions of self-similar sets that meet the open set condition. We thoroughly characterize the class of Hausdorff gauges and generalized pre-packing gauges for a self-similar set A that satisfies the open set condition under certain criteria. We derive a more general necessary and sufficient condition for a gauge function to be a Hausdorff gauge for a set A, packing gauge, or pre-packing gauge. Additionally, we estimate the associated Hausdorff measures and packing pre-measures. Finally, we apply these results to assess coherent conditional provisions and to calculate the Sugeno integral with respect to the Lebesgue measure, of the generalized Hausdorff measures of some self-similar sets, such as the middle third Cantor set, the Sierpinsky carpet, and the Sierpinsky triangle. © 2025 Elsevier Lt

    Applying the NISO Metasearch Initiative Scheme to Enhance E-Resources Management at Rutgers University Library

    This paper discusses problems in the management of library e-resources and attempts to identify potential solutions to the problems. By describing an e-resources enhancement project taken by Rutgers University Libraries, this paper points to the importance of providing contextually-rich metadata and reorganizing the accessibility of e-resources on a library’s website. It introduces how this Rutgers project adopted the National Information Standards Organization Metasearch Initiative to support the identification of appropriate e-collections for metaseaching. The outcomes of the project have facilitated a dynamic display of relevant e-resources to library users as an effective way of automatic access to library e-collections.Peer reviewe

    A Metadata Manager's Role in Collaborative Projects: The Rutgers University Libraries Experience

    Purpose – This article discusses the roles and responsibilities of a metadata manager in collaborative digital projects. Methodology – It describes the general requirements for metadata management, and introduces some scenarios in the practices of digital projects by the Rutgers University Libraries to support the generalized definition. A workflow of metadata management is illustrated. Practical implications – With an explicit definition of the roles and responsibilities of the metadata manager, many other digital libraries that need to develop a new or optimize the existing workflow may find the Rutgers experience useful as reference. Originality – Very few articles have explored this topic although the functions of metadata in the development of digital projects have been talked extensively.Peer reviewe
