Testing Mulliken approximation using hydrogen atom

    No full text
We computed the ground state energy of the hydrogen atom within the semi-empirical method prescribed by Mulliken. The one-particle basis functions used are Slater-type-orbitals (STO). The exponential parameters terminated at 25. The more the basis set used in the calculation, the better the result, in agreement with standard electronic-structure calculations. The density matrix for the free electron gas at zero temperature was adopted (Xiaoding Zhang and D. A. Drabold. Phys. Rev. B63, 233109 (2001 [10]). JONAMP Vol. 11 2007: pp. 505-50

Objective To observe the clinical effect of the external use of Xiaoding ointment in the treatment of swelling around arteriovenous fistula sites in patients with hemodialysis. Methods A total of 112 patients with swelling around arteriovenous fistula sites during hemodialysis treatment were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group according to the random number table, with 56 cases in each group. The control group received external application of Hirudiod, and the experimental group received external application of Xiaoding ointment. The swelling degree score, swelling range score and visual anlogue pain score (VAS) before and after treatment were measured, and clinical effect of the different treatments on relieving swelling around arteriovenous fistula sits was compared between two groups. Results After treatment, the scores of swelling degree, swelling range and VAS in the two groups at different times were lower than those before treatment (P<0. 01), and the efficacy of the treatment in the experimental group was better than that of the control group (P<0. 01). Conclusion Xiaoding ointment is a kind of traditional Chinese medicine preparation that can relieve swelling, improve pain and improve clinical efficacy of patients with arteriovenous fistula for hemodialysis. Social AI Improves Well-Being Among Female Young Adults

    No full text
The rise of language models like ChatGPT has introduced Social AI as a new form of entertainment, particularly among young adults who engage with AI-powered agents. This paper investigates the effects of these interactions on users' social and mental well-being, a subject that has incited extensive debate among both the public and scholars. Our study involved a survey of 5,260 users of Chai, a Social AI Platform. The findings indicate significant benefits, with notable variations across demographics. Female users, in particular, reported the most substantial improvements: 43.4% strongly agreed that Social AI positively impacted their mental health, exceeding male users by 10.5%. In managing social anxieties, 38.9% of females strongly agreed on a positive impact, compared to 30.0% for males and 27.1% for other genders. Historically, new media and technology have often been met with groundless moral panic, with societal figures raising concerns without substantial evidence of harm. Our research indicates the importance of approaching such claims with caution and emphasizes the necessity of an evidence-based perspective in discussions about the behavioral effects of emerging technologies

The Economic Consequences of IPO Spinning

    No full text
Using a sample of fifty-six companies going public in 1996--2000 in which top executives received allocations of other hot initial public offerings (IPOs) from the bookrunner, a practice known as spinning, we examine the consequences of spinning. The fifty-six IPOs had first-day returns that were, on average, 23% higher than similar IPOs. The profits collected by these executives were only a small fraction of the incremental amount of money left on the table by their companies when they went public. These companies were dramatically less likely to switch investment bankers in a follow-on offer: only 6% of issuers whose executives were spun switched underwriters, whereas 31% of other issuers switched. These findings suggest that the spinning of executives accomplished its goal of affecting corporate decisions. The Author 2010. Lattice Boltzmann study of successive droplets impingement on the non-ideal recessed microchannel for high-resolution features

    No full text
Successive droplets deposited high-resolution features on the non-ideal recessed microchannel is investigated utilizing a 3D multiple-relaxation-time (MRT) pseudopotential lattice Boltzmann (LB) model with large density ratios and high Reynolds numbers. The non-ideal hydrophilic wettability is modeled by the geometric formulation within the pseudopotential LB framework. Firstly, for single droplet impingement on the square microchannel, three liquid morphologies including quatrefoil-like, quasi-square and quasi rounded footprints are observed with varying aspect ratios of microchannel. Next, considering two successive droplets impingement on the rectangular microchannel, with the droplet spacings increasing, the liquid morphologies including bulging, uniform and dumbbell footprints are quantitatively identified. With the formation of connecting ridge, the optimal droplet spacing in in-phase collision mode is larger than that in out-of-phase mode. Besides, the deviations between simulations and theoretical values are observed which are attributed to the intensive inertial dominated flows. Finally, as extending to the multi-droplets deposited lines and films, the optimal droplet spacings are adaptive in both collision and placement modes for uniform and high-resolution features. Numerical analysis of deposition frequency for successive droplets coalescence dynamics

    No full text
A pseudopotential based multi-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann model is employed to investigate the dynamic behaviors of successive droplets' impact and coalescence on a solid surface. The effects of deposition frequency on the morphology of the formed line are investigated with a zero receding contact angle by analyzing the droplet-to-droplet coalescence dynamics. Two collision modes (in-phase mode and out-of-phase mode) between the pre-deposited bead and the subsequent droplet are identified depending on the deposition frequency. A uniform line can be obtained at the optimal droplet spacing in the in-phase mode (Delta t* < 1.875). However, a scalloped line pattern is formed in the out-of-phase mode (Delta t* > 1.875). It is found that decreasing the droplet spacing or advancing contact angle can improve the smoothness of line in the out-of-phase mode. Furthermore, the effects of deposition frequency on the morphology of the formed lines are validated to be applicable to cases with a finite receding contact angle. Published by AIP Publishing

Inkjet droplet deposition dynamics into square microcavities for OLEDs manufacturing

    No full text
The dynamics of inkjet deposition in square microcavities are investigated utilizing a three-dimensional multi-relaxation-time pseudopotential lattice Boltzmann (LB) model with large density ratios. A geometric scheme is considered within the pseudopotential LBM framework to obtain the desired contact angles. The effects of wettability, density ratios, droplet viscosity and impact velocity are explored to reveal the droplet-microcavity interactions. With the contact angles of microcavity increasing, the physical outcomes including the crown-like shape with a small round dot, circular hollow core, uniform film and convex film are identified and analyzed. At a lower density ratio rho(r) = 11.6, the surrounding denser gas resists the droplet recoiling flow resulting in an increasing hollow core. The appropriate higher droplet viscosity and decreasing impact velocity are preferred which could eliminate the hollow core in the recoiling phase and accelerate the inkjet deposition process straightforward. The revelation of droplet-microcavity dynamics is beneficial for optimizing inkjet deposition process and fabricating uniform OLEDs panels
