    Discussion on manufacturing techniques of Chen Zhang Pot

    The Chen Zhang Pot, made in the late Warring States period is an openwork bronze pot with gold and silver inlay. It was identified as a first-class historical relic of the nation by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage in 2001. To explore its manufacturing techniques, XRF, CT and X-Ray photograph microscopic observation were adopted for the non-destructive examination of the Chen Zhang Pot. The analysis data show that many parts of the Chen Zhang Pot were cast separately, and then assembled. It also shows that the composition proportion of each part of the Chen Zhang Pot is different; and the bronze color, hardness and tensile strength are different for each alloy proportion. A variety of decoration techniques were adopted in the manufacturing process, which make the color more diverse and gorgeous. The openwork decoration is the most complex part of the pot, and the gold and silver decoration technique also represents the high level manufacturing technology in the Warring States period. In summary, the Chen Zhang Pot is a unique art treasure, and as a specimen it allows us to study the bronze casting technology in the Warring States period

    Genus Fistulatus Zhang, Zhang & Chen Type species: Fistulatus sinensis Zhang, Zhang & Chen, 1997: 237 Fistulatus Zhang, Zhang & Chen, 1997; Cen & Cai, 2002: 117 –119; Shang & Zhang, 2003: 21; Shang et al., 2006: 152 Diagnosis. Crown about as broad as pronotum; length shorter than half distance between eyes and slightly longer medially than next to eyes. Crown transversely depressed subapically with few transverse striations on anterior margin. Ocelli marginal, near corresponding eyes. Face broader than long; antenna longer than half body length, located at anterodorsal corner of eye; antennal pit deep and encroaching onto frontoclypeus; frontoclypeus narrow with median area slightly swollen; anteclypeus narrowed medially, expanded apically; lora large; genal sides nearly straight below eye. Pronotum with sides fairly short; transversely striate. Scutellum about same length as pronotum. Forewing with four apical cells and three subapical cells, first subapical cell open. Forefemur with single AV 1 seta, intercalary row with about 9 ~ 11 setae, subapical AM 1 present, stout, but the anterior ventral margin bearing 3 ~ 4 stout setae. Foretibia dorsal seta formula 1 + 4; hind femur apical spines 2 + 2 + 1. Pygofer with one or two lateral processes. Valve approximately rectangular. Connective with stem very short, Y-shaped with arms converging apically. Aedeagus large with basal part (socle) narrow; basal apodeme elongate; shaft tubular and elongate with paired processes or flanges, gonopore apical on posterior surface. Distribution. Oriental Region (China, Malaysia). Remarks. It is difficult to distinguish this genus from related genera because coloration and head structure are very similar. However, the characteristics of the male genitalia are clearly different; generally the aedeagal shaft is tubular and elongate with paired processes or flanges and the pygofer has processes. Fistulatus resembles the genus Kutara Distant but differs in having male pygofer processes. Fistulatus is related to the genus Carvaka Distant but differ from the latter by aedeagus usually lacking apical paired processes.     Family Halysestheriidae Zhang & Chen in Zhang et al., 1976 Emended diagnosis. Carapaces are ovate, elliptical, rounded, or subquadrate in outline. Umbo bulging, located in the middle or anterior part of the dorsal margin. Growth lines are prominent, with serrated lower margins. Growth bands ornamented with radial lirae, which transition through reticulation to chain-like decoration. The grid arrangement is very regular, with dense chains perpendicular to the growth line. The longitudinal mesh wall is thickened and the mesh becomes narrower and longer, like the chain hole, which becomes a regular, radially arranged discontinuous linear structure on an external mould. Growth bands in the umbonal area ornamented with widely spaced radial lirae, between which short lirae and crossbars occur, and forming fine reticulation. Puncta occur between radial lirae and within reticulation. Remarks. This family was named by Zhang & Chen (in Zhang et al., 1976) to include Halysestheria Zhang & Chen in Zhang et al., 1976, Brachygrapta Novozhilov, 1954, Pseudocyclograpta Chang, 1957, Tylestheria Zhang & Chen in Zhang et al., 1976, Aglestheria Chen in Zhang et al., 1976. Later, Dictyestheria Chang & Chen, 1964 and Plectestheria Zhang & Chen in Zhang et al., 1976 were assigned to this family by Li et al.     Efficient computation of spinning modal radiation through an engine bypass duct

    The aim of this work is to accurately and efficiently predict sound radiation out of a duct with flow. The sound propagation inside a generic engine bypass duct, refractions by the shear layer of the exhaust flow, and propagation in the near field are the main focus of the study. The prediction uses either a modified form of linearized Euler equations or an alternative model based on acoustic perturbation equations, which were extended to cylindrical coordinates. The two models were compared on a canonical case of sound propagation out of a semi-infinite duct with flow. Good agreements between the predictions were achieved. The more general case of a generic aircraft engine bypass duct with flow was then investigated with the technique of adaptive mesh refinement to increase the computational efficiency. The results show that both linearized Euler equations and acoustic perturbation equations models can predict the near-field sound propagation and far-field directivity. The acoustic perturbation equations model, however, is more adaptive for its suitability to an arbitrary background mean flow

    Clubiona fanjingshan Wang, Chen & Zhang ZS, sp. nov. (Figs 4A–B, 5A–C) Material examined. Holotype ♂, China, Guizhou, Fanjing Mountain Reserve, between Jinding and Huixiangping, 1.VIII.2001, J.X. Zhang & Z.S. Zhang leg. Paratype. 1♂, Mianxuling 27°54.54′N, 108°39.83′E; elev. 1974 m), 13.X.2014, C. Jin & Z.Z. Gao leg. Etymology. The specific name refers to the type locality (Mt. Fanjing is read as Fanjingshan in Chinese); noun. Diagnosis. Male of the new species is similar to that of C. subapplanata Wang, Chen & Zhang ZS, sp. nov. (Figs 14A– B, 15A, C–D), but can be distinguished by the wider than long RTA, the absence of VTA, the wide and arc-shaped conductor, and the slightly curved embolus (Figs 4A–B, 5B–C) (as long as wide RTA, narrow apex of conductor and strongly curved embolus in C. subapplanata Wang, Chen & Zhang ZS, sp. nov.). Description. Male (Fig. 5A). Holotype total length 6.13. Carapace 2.67 long, 1.93 wide; abdomen 3.45 long, 1.68 wide. Carapace yellowish brown. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.11, ALE 0.14, PME 0.12, PLE 0.13; AME–AME 0.12, AME–ALE 0.05, PME–PME 0.24, PME–PLE 0.16, ALE–PLE 0.08. MOA 0.38 long, front width 0.35, back width 0.49. Clypeus height 0.09. Chelicerae yellow brown, with 4 promarginal and 5 retromarginal teeth. Pairs of ventral spines: Tibia I 3; Metatarsus I 1; Tibia II 3; Metatarsus II 1. Leg measurements: I 7.43 (2.13, 2.90, 1.50, 0.90); II 7.86 (2.20, 3.03, 1.77, 0.86); III 6.71 (1.93, 2.20, 1.73, 0.85); IV 8.99 (2.50, 3.01, 2.63, 0.85). Leg formula 4213. Abdomen yellowish brown. Male pedipalp (Figs 4A–B, 5B–C). Femur without apophysis. Tibia with 2 apophyses, RTA wide and short, LTA small, close to the base of tibia, proximad. Conductor wide, transversal, arc or band-shaped, prolaterad, tip distad. Embolus located distally, with sharply pointed, ventrad tip. Sperm duct long, forming a circular loop in proximal half, gradually tapering toward the base of embolus. Female. Unknown. Distribution. Known only from the type locality, Guizhou, China. Comment.
