Beka Lamb, the novel by Belizean Zee Edgell, is a representation in a smaller scale of women‘s issues, linguistic diversity, colonial instability, and cultural multiplicity of the Caribbean region. Edgell also destroys stereotypes by becoming, as an author, in the writing subject challenging a vision that placed the Caribbean black woman only as a literary object. The novel problematizes the social construction of gender, and proposes other alliances marked mainly by the socio-economic position of the characters.
