Lungo i futuri possibili del poliziesco. The Minority Report di Philip K. Dick

    No full text
In its rigorous and highly normative framework, the detective story often allows productive analyses on the functioning of its mechanisms and on the role of its elements when it is subjected to structural infringements in order to obtain specific narrative effects. The Minority Report (1956), science fiction story by Philip K. Dick, represents a particular case of ‘science fiction detective story’, a cross between science fiction and the context of the detective investigation, in which the knowability itself of reality and criminal actions change radically, thus providing the starting point for some considerations on how some key elements of the detective story are modified (or how, despite the different approach, they keep their role and function) in a context that represents a substantial and basic infringement of the genre scheme

In this article I analyze the debut novel by Dunja Badnjević, «L’Isola Nuda», looking at it through the lenses of travel literature. Badnjević was born in Yugoslavia and moved to Italy years ago; «L’Isola Nuda» is an autobiographical novel where she narrates the experience of her family, in particular her father, who strongly believed in Tito (who bestowed prominent political roles on him). After 1948, when Tito broke with ussr, Dunja’s father – like many others – was punished because of his belief in the project of a united communist entity led by Stalin. Goli Otok (the island’s real name) is an island nearby Croatian costs that became a concentration camp where Dunja’s father was imprisoned. He survived and years later wrote a diary that Dunja quotes in her book. In the narration we find two levels that allow us to consider this novel as travel literature: the first level is set in the present, where the writer visits the island, now turned into a touristic place with few traces of the past; the second one is based on the father’s diary and it could be considered as a metaphoric journey through his memory and his experience of the camp. The narration switches continuously between the two narrators and the two historical periods: this allows the reader to reconstruct the tragic history of a family and of a whole nation that nowadays no longer exists and towards which the writer shows a deep and inconsolable nostalgia

Partitura di un mistero, tra talento e tecnica. Le dinamiche del sistema musicale di Canone inverso di Paolo Maurensig

Drawing widely from his deepest passions, Paolo Maurensig builds his intricate narrative architectures, often characterised by the multiplication and interlocking of story plans with a frequent alternation of narrative voices, starting from a fundamental thematic core that constitutes the main track of development of the story and at the same time a parameter by which to measure the entire fictional experience. In Canone inverso, a 1996 novel, the story revolves around a mysterious violin and the theme of music penetrates deeply into the two protagonists, not only to condition their life events but also to irremediably mark their essence and inner dimension

Weakly weighted generalised quasi-metric spaces and semilattices

Castellano I, Bruno AG, Zava N. Weakly weighted generalised quasi-metric spaces and semilattices. Theoretical Computer Science. 2023;977: 114129.Motivated by recent applications to entropy theory in dynamical systems, we generalise notions introduced by Matthews and define weakly weighted and componentwise weakly weighted (generalised) quasi-metrics. We then systematise and extend to full generality the correspondences between these objects and other structures arising in theoretical computer science and dynamics. In particular, we study the correspondences with weak partial metrics and, if the underlying space is a semilattice, with invariant (generalised) quasimetrics satisfying the descending path condition, and with strictly monotone semi(-co-)valuations. We conclude discussing, for endomorphisms of generalised quasi-metric semilattices, a generalisation of both the known intrinsic semilattice entropy and the semigroup entropy.(c) 2023 Elsevier B.V. Un trittico metaletterario di Giulio Ghirardi, tra memoria e realtà sonora

Informed by numerous literary genres and endowed with high stylistic refinement, Giulio Ghirardi’s writing is populated by subtle echoes and perceptive stimuli capable of transcending the prose text in which they had been originally located and reach the status of poetry. Ghirardi’s trilogy Numeri chiusi, Teatrino Tascabile and Un cumulo di bugie, situated in between fiction and non-fiction, develops a fluid narrative around fundamental themes such as memory and sound

The review of the book that collects the proceedings of the international conference of Arcavacata (14-16 April 2010) provides an opportunity to take stock of twenty years of studies about Gianfranco Contini’s critical-philological career, the highlights of which, in addition to the conference in Calabria, are the workshops held in Venice in October 2000 and in Naples in December 2002 and the two monographic issues of «Ermeneutica Letteraria», the 2010 and 2011 booklets, with a focus on the Letter sections which open new horizons about his hermeneutic practice. Prompted by the concurrence and interaction of his two souls, the philologist and the expert in contemporary literature, the book with the Arcavacata proceedings is testament to the broad range of the critic’s interests, through a review of his studies on novels and poetry in the Italian scenario as well as the European dimension of his exploratory work ; at the same time, this paper gives prominence to the uniqueness and effectiveness of a method based on the systematic harmonisation of philological tools and critical understanding
