Leopoldo II di Toscana, il mosaico di Vignale e un progetto di parco archeologico nella Maremma dell’800

    No full text
During the ongoing archaeological research at Vignale (near Piombino, Tuscany) a large and very interesting Late Antique floor mosaic was unearthed. Really, it would be more appropriate to speak of a rediscovering, since the mosaic was originally excavated by the Grand Duke of Tuscany Leopold II, in 1830-1831. A few years later, the mosaic and the surrounding building (believed to be a large Roman bath) were included into a sort of early archaeological park, maybe one of the first we know. Despite of this clear interest by Leopold II, the mosaic was apparently never seen by any scholar or traveller, since we don’t have any documentation, or even information, of it. Nevertheless, it was probably visible until the first decade of the 20th century, when it was intentionally concealed under the floor of a rural barn, until the archaeological rediscovering in 2014

    Quasistatic delamination problem

    No full text
We study delamination of two elastic bodies glued together by an adhesive that can undergo a unidirectional inelastic rate-independent process. The quasistatic delamination process is thus activated by time-dependent external loadings, realized through body forces and displacements prescribed on parts of the boundary. The novelty of this work consists of considering the glue as infinitesimally thin and ideally rigid in the sense that a crack in the glue cannot be seen before, speaking ``microscopically'', all macromolecular links of the adhesive are fully debonded. The concept of energetic solution is applied and existence of such solutions is proved by showing Gamma-convergence of a suitable approximation that, in addition, allows for a direct computer implementation, unlike the original problem

Nascita della politica vaticana verso la Palestina e i luoghi santi

This article aims to investigate the Palestinian policy of the Vatican during the pontificate of Pope Benedict XV: a period that had important consequences on the future of the region, bringing about the division of the Middle East between French and British mandates, the consolidation of Zionism and the growth of the Arab nationalism. For these reasons, this article examines the policy of the Holy See on four different issues: the geo-political set-up of Palestine; the internal structure of the Catholic Church in the Holy Land; Zionism and the consequential effect that it had on the Christian presence; Arab nationalism and its repercussions on Christian-Muslim relations

PLPM (Photochemical Lagrangian Particle Model): Formulation and Preliminary Validation

    No full text
PLPM (Photochemical Lagrangian Particle Model) is a Lagrangian particle model developed in last years by ENEA and ENVIROWARE Srl. In this presentation, we discuss the physical formulation of PLPM, the main features of the kernel density reconstruction methods and some preliminary tests carried out to evaluate the model and the density reconstruction methods. In particular, the Kincaid data set (Bowne e Loondergan, 1983), along with the Model Validation Kit (Olesen, 1998), has been used to test the model on the dispersion of non-reactive compounds. The results obtained so far suggests bringing them to the attention of the air quality modelling community, together with the questions that are still open and would benefit of the efforts of other researchers

A Comprehensive Performance Evaluation of the Air Quality Model BOLCHEM to Reproduce the Ozone Concentrations over Italy

    No full text
A comprehensive model evaluation has been conducted for BOLCHEM over the whole of Italy during four periods favorable to ozone photochemistry: 1-3 June, 1-4 July, 5-7 August and 20-24 January during the year 1999. Two photochemical mechanisms, SAPRC90 and CB-IV, have been employed to simulate the evolution of ozone, taking into account the Italian and European inventories and maritime emissions. The comparison of simulated and measured ozone concentrations demonstrates that the model is able to forecast well the daily variation of ozone with both mechanisms, in particular during the summer, when the ozone photochemistry is more active. The discrepancies between the ozone predicted with the SAPRC90 and CB-IV mechanisms are similar to those previously reported in the literature: SAPRC90 leading to higher ozone concentrations than CB-IV due to the differences in their representation of VOC mixture. However, for both photochemical mechanisms, the model skill scores are good, proving the reliability of the model for regional scale applications

Reproductive healthcare during the Covid-19 outbreak in Italy

The outbreak of COVID-19 increased gender inequalities worldwide. This paper analyses how adjustments to the pandemic situation introduced in Italy between February and May 2020 affected women and pregnant people’s reproductive healthcare. It illustrates how a national structural approach to maternal and reproductive health was adapted to the Covid-19 epidemic, sometimes delaying essential care and leaving women and pregnant people feeling lonely and uncomfortable. It shows how the measures introduced in antenatal, childbirth and postnatal care, assisted reproduction, and abortion were developed within a clinical and cultural framework, where women’s reproductive health was considered a risky matter and medicalized care the best way to manage it; motherhood was valued as a preferred reproductive trajectory, and a public demographic discourse supporting selective pronatalism entered health settings. At the same time, the pandemic generated unprecedented grassroot demands for more accessible and diverse reproductive car
