Organizational Change and Leadership: A Bibliometric Analysis
In this article, we present the main results concerning the bibliometric analysis we developed for exploring the relationship between leadership and organizational change. Today, change is a constant in organizations, and leadership is one of the main factors affecting its outcome. The main objective of this work is to provide a complete overview of the studies discussing the two chosen intertwined topics, that could represent a valid starting point for developing future research directions. The bibliometric analysis was carried out on 359 articles published in journals belonging to the AJG ranking. We carried out the descriptive analysis of the dataset as well as the thematic analysis. For the latter, beyond the Authors’ keywords distribution and co-occurrence analysis, we developed the thematic evolution, considering three specific phases in the publication trend, specifically 1974–2004, 2005–2014, and 2015–2023. We provide a description of the main themes debated in each phase as well as the most contributing papers
Designing 3D Virtual World Platforms for E-Learning services. New Frontiers of Organizational Training
The World Wide Web is, amongst the several different media available, the most global, interactive, and dynamic medium to share information. World wide web services were used in the last decade for e-learning applications, both in academic and business settings. E-learning services, provided through e-learning platforms, allow individuals to develop competences that might turn into organizational competences and eventually lead to competitive advantage. The development and usage of 3D virtual world platforms for e-learning services is an emerging phenomenon that challenges and enlarges the very idea of learning environment. Within this context this paper sheds light on this new frontier of e-learning services analyzing relevant literature on the application of 3D virtual world platforms in this context
Digital transformation and human behavior: An introduction
Digital transformation is impacting all aspects of life, the way we live and the way we work. The aim of this book is to introduce the current debate on the relationship between digital transformation and human behavior. This volume proposes a revised version of some interesting and relevant contributions presented at the XVI Conference of the Italian Chapter of AIS (ItAIS2019) entitled “Digital Transformation and Social Innovation”, which was held at the University of Naples “Parthenope” on September 27–28, 2019. The book contains 24 chapters evaluated through a double-blind review process and provides a plurality of views that makes this book particularly relevant for scholars but also for practitioners, managers, and policy makers
Deciphering Barriers and Strategies in Environmental Management Accounting (EMA) Adoption: A Comprehensive Two-Decade Analysis
This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the evolution and challenges of Environmental Management Accounting (EMA) adoption across diverse industries and regions over the past two decades. Through a bibliometric analysis, this study categorizes the literature into three distinct periods, each elucidating crucial developments in EMA practices from initial theoretical formulations to their strategic integration with corporate sustainability and circular economy frameworks. The recent period particularly focuses on identifying the multifaceted challenges in EMA adoption, encapsulated in the newly developed "EMA adoption and application issue framework." This framework not only categorizes but also visually represents systemic barriers such as regulatory constraints, organizational and cultural resistance, economic and technical obstacles, and the influence of external market forces. The analysis reveals significant regional disparities in EMA research, with a notable lack of contribution from European Union countries compared to active regions such as Australia, South Africa, and Southeast Asia, suggesting a critical need for strategic interventions to enhance EMA research and practical implementation in the EU. These findings advocate for more robust regulations, enhanced managerial commitment, and international collaboration to improve EMA adoption rates. This study aims to advance the understanding of EMA's implementation challenges and foster dialog among academics, policymakers, and practitioners to overcome these barriers and enhance the integration of EMA into sustainability strategies globally
A model for digital development of SMEs: an interaction-based approach
Purpose: E-business maturity models have been widely used to guide the process of digital transformation of business. However, these models have been criticized for their predominantly technocentric approach, which is poorly suited for SMEs. The purpose of this paper is to produce a holistic, nonlinear e-business development model for SMEs that takes into account the interactions of the organization in the pursuit of its business objectives. Design/methodology/approach: Based on the literature review, this paper proposes a nonlinear digital development model for SMEs that factors in the interactions between digital technologies and organizational processes. The model is applied to three cases using a qualitative research approach. Findings: The analysis of the cases demonstrates how the model recognizes that SMEs have an agile and flexible operating structure and reduces the role of technology in order to refocus the entrepreneurs on the relationship among business goals, organizational capabilities and communication requirements. Practical implications: The proposed model helps the business owners to clarify and better understand what kind of interaction levels exist between the relevant actors in the pursuit of the firm's goals and to identify the best mix of digital and nondigital communication methods to support their work. It also assists policymakers to overcome technological bias when assessing the current state of play of e-business development in the SME universe and formulate actions that support the development of digitally oriented SMEs. Originality/value: This paper proposes a novel, nonlinear, interaction-based development model for SMEs in order to complement previous technocentric models focusing mainly on a mechanist perspective of e-business maturity models
