Europe's venture capital industry is already prepared for 1992
Yves Fassin and Klaus Nathusius, respectively the Secretary-General and Chairman of the European Venture Capital Association (EVCA), point out that venture-capital can very successfully fuel the expansion financing necessary for 1992. Already the venture capital industry has Europe-wide networks helping SMEs to find "proximity investors". It can also help in many other areas, from acquisitions to investment in new technology.
The impact of review articles in management and economics journal rankings and metrics
In a letter to the editor, Moussa (2021) questions the impact of review articles on the ranking and indicators of journals. Applied to the management and economics FT50 journals (Fassin Scientometr 126:5911-5943, 2021), the analysis reveals that this bias is rather limited. Except for a few journals identified by Moussa, the ranking of the journal's h-indexes does not alter significantly

SMEs and the fallacy of formalising CSR
There exists increasing pressure for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to engage in corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices, including social reporting. Curiously in this promotional programme of CSR reporting, the only group whose ideas are not sought in this debate are the SME leaders themselves. The present ethnographic field analysis, based on discussions within entrepreneurs' circles, tends to suggest that the argument for expanding formalisation of CSR to SMEs rests upon several fallacies. It implicitly assumes that an apparent solution for large multinationals can be transposed to SMEs, and it underestimates the drawbacks of bureaucracy. Moreover, many SMEs experience inconsistency between the idealistic CSR communication of some large companies and their actions, especially in the supply chain. The author concludes that reports do not constitute the validation for real CSR, nor the proof of superior ethical behaviour. Formalisation can even be counterproductive. Conversely, the absence of social reporting does not imply that SMEs do not behave responsible. CSR in SMEs needs a specific approach, adapted to the informal nature and entrepreneurial character of the small business. The essence of CSR lies in the implementation of responsible business practices. It lies in the right attitudes, in the corporate culture, not in formalisation
Du clandestin à l'officieux. Les réseaux de vente illicite des médicaments au Sénégal.
D. Fassin — Front Clandestine to Unofficial : Illicit Dealings in Medicines on Sene-galese Markets.
The recent development of an illicit trade in medicines in African towns leads to wonder why a society generates and tolerates illegal practices in order to solve its health problems. A study of the sale of medicines on the markets in Pikine, a suburb of Dakar, provides a double answer. On the one hand, the public author-ities are unable to ensure economie access to medicines for the urban poor: hence the multiplication of illicit outlets where drugs are retailed at a lower price. On the other hand, the supply networks and the dealers' training are controlled by the powerful Murid brotherhood whose close political connection with the State authorities hinders officiai intervention. This results in a policy which, in spite of officiai denunciations, alternates passive toleration with casual repression.Fassin Didier. Du clandestin à l'officieux. Une anthropologie de la santé publique : l'ethnologue sorcier.
D. Fassin—An Anthropology of Public Health: The Ethnologist as a Witch. Follow-ed by The Preserves of Public Health (by B. Hours), and concluded by Anthropology' s Domains (D. F. again).
Reviewing L'Etat sorcier, a book on the public health organization in Cameroon, D. F. (a medical doctor) criticizes author B. H. (an anthropologist) for his interpretation of the patients' reactions to the shortcomings of the health service. According to B. H. these reactions are closely similar to witchcraft accusations in traditional society, the 'witch' in this case being no other than the State. In point of fact, according to D. F., the actual 'witches' in this case seem to be the nurses and medical orderlies rather than that vague and distant entity, the State. B. H., in turn, calls forth his informants' evidence to defend his thesis, his own—anthro-pological—approach diverging, per se, from that of the WHO and other medical experts. D. F.'s final answer insists upon the necessity of an open dialogue.Fassin Didier. Une anthropologie de la santé publique : l'ethnologue sorcier..
