Life and Medical Activities of Yun Ti Wang
Yun Ti Wang studied medicine in England, different from other Korean medical doctors in early days. Yun, who entered medical school at Glasgow University in England in March 1919, graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine in October 1925, along with an England medical license. Yun began working as an instructor at Severance Medical College from November 1927, and received Doctor of Medicine from the College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists at Kyoto Imperial University in August 1936. After the Liberation, Yun began working as a faculty member at the medical school at Seoul University, and he also worked as a Chief of the Second Medical Clinic of the school from 1946. Yun made a great effort in order to build an integrated committee, eventually contributing to the launching of Joseon Medical Associates in 1947. He was also elected as a first president at Joseon Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates, which was organized at the same year as the Joseon Medical Associates. Yun entered military as an army surgeon in April 1949 and has worked there until he was appointed as a principal at the Army Medical School in September 1953. His contributions to the development of military medical services include the following: expansion of medical facilities in army, stable system of workforce in military medical service, launching of Medical Aid and establishment of Department of Medical Care, and introduction of new medical technologies in anesthesiology and neurosurgery, etc. The career of Yun can be largely divided into the field of gynecology and military medical services. In the gynecological field, Yun contributed to the settlement of obstetrics in Korea, by taking in charge of the obstetrics class at Severance following medical missionaries. As for the military medical services, he has contributed to the establishment of military medical system as well as to the opening of new academic areas. The impact of his activities on the establishment of military medical services is especially significant, since it was a field that no Korean citizens had access to during the colonization era.ope
Effect of template shape on metal nanoimprinting: A dislocation dynamics study
Dislocation dynamics simulations are performed to investigate the effect of template shape on the nanoimprinting of metal layers. To this end, metal thin films are imprinted by a rigid template made of an array of equispaced indenters of various shapes, i.e., rectangular, wedge, and circular. The geometry of the indenters is chosen such that the contact area is approximately the same at the final imprinting depth. Results show that, for all template shapes, the final patterns strongly depend on the dislocation activity, and that each imprint differs from the neighboring ones. Large material pile ups appear between the imprints, such that polishing of the metal layer is suggested for application of the patterns in electronics. Rectangular indenters require the lowest imprinting force and achieve the deepest retained imprints

Heyuanninae Yun, 2019, clade. nov
Barsbold (1981) erected Ingenia yanshini Barsbold, 1981 for a nearly complete oviraptorid skeleton from the Upper Cretaceous (Campanian-Maastrichtian) Barun Goyot Formation in Ömnögov, southern Mongolia. Moreover, he erected a subfamily-level clade Ingeniinae Barsbold, 1981 to distinguish Ingenia yanshini from other oviraptorids such as Oviraptor philoceratops Osborn, 1924 (Barsbold, 1981). When Barsbold first erected the subfamily, he considered this subfamily as monotypic (Barsbold, 1981) but now this subfamily comprisesmultiple taxa such as Machairasaurus leptonychus Longrich, Currie, and Dong, 2010 and Heyuannia huangi Lü, 2002. However, the genus name Ingenia is a junior homonym of the tripyloidid nematode genus Ingenia Gerlach, 1957 and according to the Article 23.1 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN, 1999), Gerlach’s 1957 name has priority. Therefore, the usage of the subfamily name Ingeniinae is problematic as it is based on a junior homonym. Paul (1988) suggested a new combination Oviraptor yanshini for “ Ingenia ” yanshini but this classification has not been supported by any subsequent authors (Easter, 2013). Easter (2013) proposed a new genus name Ajancingenia Easter, 2013 for “ Ingenia ” yanshini, but subsequent phylogenetic analyses have found “ Ingenia ” yanshini and Heyuannia huangi as sister taxa (e.g., Lamanna et al., 2014; Funston and Currie, 2016; Lü et al., 2016; Funston et al., 2018). Therefore, most recent studies have considered Ajancingenia as junior synonym of Heyuannia and used new combination Heyuannia yanshini for “ Ingenia ” yanshini (e.g., Funston et al., 2018; Herne et al., 2018). Thus, Heyuanniais the proper synonym available as a replacement name of the junior homonym. Therefore, the author proposes a new replacement subfamily name Heyuanninae clade. nov. (from Heyuannia and –inae) for “Ingeniinae”. Osmolska et al. (2004) defined “Ingeniinae” as Conchoraptor gracilis, Ingenia yanshini, their most recent common ancestor, and all descendants. Here the author revises this definition for Heyuanninae, using Heyuannia huangi as the specifier. Heyuanninae is a node-based subfamily-level clade that can be defined as the least inclusive clade containing Heyuannia huangi and Conchoraptor gracilis.Published as part of Yun, Chan-Gyu, 2019, Heyuanninae clade nov., a replacement name for the oviraptorid subfamily " Ingeniinae " Barsbold, 1981, pp. 295-296 in Zootaxa 4671 (2) on page 295, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4671.2.11, http://zenodo.org/record/344216
The Life and Music of Isang Yun
Thesis (D.M.A.)--University of Washington, 2014The Life and Music of Isang Yun Edward Park Isang Yun (1917-1995), born in Duksan in Korea, is considered by many Korean and European musicians to be one of the most important of all twentieth-century composers. He spent much of his adult life outside Korea, precipitated by his abduction in Berlin by secret agents from South Korea. This caused him much pain, both physically and psychically, but also lay the groundwork for his returning to Germany to live and start to build a world-renowned reputation. Yun was an enthusiastic nationalist, and his main concerns in later life were of a humanistic nature - namely, what he could contribute to the world as a whole. His music often contained a political message for the South Korean government, with a strong desire for peace around the world. He also dedicated himself to the cultural and political harmony of both North and South Korea. Indeed, he wanted nothing more than to be the catalyst for the reunification of his broken country. Two piano works by Isang Yun, Fünf Klavierstücke and Interludium A, are analyzed and used to show how he developed the twelve-tone technique inherited from Arnold Schönberg into his own special Haupttontechnik, and how he connected his spiritual philosophies with his music. This dissertation will give many readers around the world a more complete understanding and perception of the man, Isang Yun

Yun Dongju and the Effects of Colonization on Literature
Tucked away in a small room, in a country he used to recognize, poet Yun Dongju (1917-1945) drafted nineteen poems that would become the foundation of his legacy: Sky, Wind, Stars, and Poetry. Growing up during the Japanese annexation of Korea, Yun drafted his poetry during a time where Korean language and cultural practices were banned by Imperial Japan. In my essay, I will use Yun’s poetry as a viewpoint for dissecting the negative effects of literary censorship brought about by colonization. Additionally, I will discuss the significance of how Yun – one of Korea’s most famous poets – uses poetry to help readers understand the national trauma caused by Japan’s colonial rule and how it affected (and still affects) the morale and mindset of Korean people born and raised during the occupation (1915-1945).
In 1942, after finishing his first anthology of poetry, Yun Dongju packed his bags and moved to study at Rikkyo University in Tokyo, Japan. During this time, he wrote his final poem, “Swipge Ssuieojin Si” (A Poem That Came Easily). In his poem, Yun writes, “The night rain whispers outside the window / of my six-mat room, in an alien country. The poet has a sad vocation, I know; should I write another line of poetry?” (McCann 94-95). Aware of the position he is in, Yun questions if the poetry he is writing is worth the risk he is taking. The six-mat room is in reference to a tatami mat, an architectural piece common in Japanese households. Additionally, the “night rain” he refers to – originally written in Korean as 밤비 or bambi – is a common way Korean people refer to the Japanese occupation (Kim). Yun continues with his reflection of home as he writes, “Having received my tuition from home in an envelope / soaked with the smell of sweat and love,” (McCann 94-95).
Through analyzing Yun’s poetry and historical analyses, I plan to examine what Jinhee Kim argues as Yun’s philosophy: “poets must write poems to shed light during such dark times” (208), as well as how the Japanese empire – according to Yasuko Claremont – showed “how powerful control by the state can be, reducing its citizens to compliant units,” (137), to help readers gain a new respect for survivors of colonialism in Korea and the importance of literature and self-expression in times of political unrest. Additionally, I will discuss why Yun’s personal experiences as a Korean living in Japan are integral to understanding the gravity of Japan\u27s occupation, and the consequences of an empire seeking to oppress its occupants of all ages.
