LP Decoding Excess over Symmetric Channels
No full textWe consider the problem of Linear Programming (LP) decoding of binary linear codes. The LP excess lemma was introduced by the first author, B. Ghazi, and R. Urbanke (IEEE Trans. Inf. Th., 2014) as a technique to trade crossover probability for 'LP excess' over the Binary Symmetric Channel. We generalize the LP excess lemma to discrete, binary-input, Memoryless, Symmetric and LLR-Bounded (MSB) channels. As an application, we extend a result by the first author and H. Audah (IEEE Trans. Inf. Th., 2015) on the impact of redundant checks on LP decoding to discrete MSB channels. © 2015 IEEE

No full textIn this paper, we introduce a Weyl functional calculus a↦a(Q,P) for the position and momentum operators Q and P associated with the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator L=−Δ+x⋅∇, and give a simple criterion for restricted Lp-Lq boundedness of operators in this functional calculus. The analysis of this non-commutative functional calculus is simpler than the analysis of the functional calculus of~L. It allows us to recover, unify, and extend old and new results concerning the boundedness of exp(−zL) as an operator from Lp(Rd,γα) to Lq(Rd,γβ) for suitable values of z∈C with Rez>0, p,q∈[1,∞), and α,β>0. Stability properties of stochastic maximal Lp-regularity
No full textIn this paper we consider Lp-regularity estimates for solutions to stochastic evolution equations, which is called stochastic maximal Lp-regularity. Our aim is to find a theory which is analogously to Dore’s theory for deterministic evolution equations. He has shown that maximal Lp-regularity is independent of the length of the time interval, implies analyticity and exponential stability of the semigroup, is stable under perturbation and many more properties. We show that the stochastic versions of these results hold

No full textThe author studied the propagation of the fundamental mode, called the LP//0//1 mode, of a single-mode optical fiber and the LP//1//1 mode, the next higher-order mode, in two long lengths of fiber coupled together. This was done by launching light having a wavelength below the cut-off wavelength of the fiber. The effect of lateral misalignment at the coupled junctions was investigated. The results are explained in terms of excitation of the modes at this junction
Enhancement of the Tyrosinase Inhibitory Activity of Mori Cortex Radicis Extract by Biotransformation UsingLeuconostoc paramesenteroidesPR
No full textMori Cortex Radicis (MCR), the root bark of Morus alba L., consists of various phytochemicals and exhibits a strong inhibitory effect on tyrosinase. To enhance the tyrosinase inhibitory activity of MCR extract without further purification of bioactive compounds, whole MCR extract was biotransformed with crude enzyme extract from a selected lactic acid bacterium, Leuconostoc paramesenteroides PR (LP). Mulberroside A (MA), a major stilbene glucoside of MCR, contains two beta-glucosyl residues at the C3 and C4' positions of oxyresveratrol (OXY). The crude enzyme of LP hydrolyzed the two glycosidic bonds of MA effectively, and 97.1% of MA was biotransformed into OXY within 2 h. Commercial almond beta-glucosidase hydrolyzed only one site of the two glycosidic bonds of MA, and 68.7% of MA was biotransformed to OXY-glucoside. The tyrosinase inhibitory activity of the crude extract of MCR was increased approximately 6.5-fold by biotransformation using LP, and the IC50 value of the transformed MCR was 3.7 mu g/mL.Y
Life of a Yellow Kid: an audiovisual electro-pop LP
No full textThe basis of this project is to compose, record, produce and mix an eleven song album (LP) with a visualizer, logo and design for each track. The author designed all of the artworks for the songs and LP and produced videos and content for said LP. Also, the author combined all of his influences from electronic music and other genres to create something new to expand the limits of electronic music. This album was influenced by works of artists like Madeon, Porter Robinson, Louis The Child, Urboi, Medasin, Fred Again.. and The Weeknd. Song-writing, recording, sound design, creative production techniques, mixing, graphic design and audiovisual production were the skills and tools necessary for the completion of this LP. The main focus of the LP was to combine different genres of music, like Electro-pop, UK Garage, Pop, House and Drum and Bass. Also this album is about personal experiences of the author and it covers different feelings throughout the LP, creating a sunset literally and figuratively within the album.

Effects of Selenium- and Zinc-Enriched Lactobacillus plantarum SeZi on Antioxidant Capacities and Gut Microbiome in an ICR Mouse Model
No full textSelenium and zinc are essential trace minerals for humans with various biological functions. In this study, selenium- and zinc-tolerant lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolates were screened out from human fecal samples. Amongst three hundred LAB isolates, the Lactobacillus plantarum SeZi strain displayed the tolerance against selenium and zinc with the greatest biomass production and bioaccumulation of selenium and zinc. To further assess the characteristics of this strain, the lyophilized L. plantarum SeZi were prepared and administered to Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) mice. The mice were divided into four groups, provided with normal chow (Con), or normal chow supplemented with Na2SeO3 and ZnSO4∙7H2O (SZ), L. plantarum SeZi (Lp), or selenium- and zinc-enriched L. plantarum SeZi (SZ + Lp), respectively. After 4 weeks of oral administration, the concentrations of selenium and zinc in blood were significantly increased in the SZ + Lp group when compared to the control or SZ group (p < 0.05). The increased selenium level led to an enhanced glutathione peroxidase activity and decreased blood malondialdehyde level in the SZ + Lp group (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, the results of bacterial community and microbial metabolic pathway analysis via 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing showed that L. plantarum SeZi significantly promoted the utilization of selenocysteine, seleno-cystathionine and seleno-methionine in the selenocompounds metabolism. Here, the in vivo antioxidant capacities of the selenium- and zinc-enriched lactobacillus strain showed us the utilization of a unique probiotic as a Se/Zn supplement with high availability, low toxicity, and additional probiotic advantages
Harmony and discord within the English ‘counter-culture’, 1965-1975, with particular reference to the ‘rock operas’ Hair, Godspell, Tommy and Jesus Christ Superstar
No full textPhDThis thesis considers the discrete, historically-specific theatrical and musical sub-genre of ‘Rock Opera’ as a lens through which to examine the cultural, political and social changes that are widely assumed to have characterised ‘The Sixties’ in Britain. The musical and dramatic texts, creation and production of Hair (1967), Tommy (1969), Godspell (1971), Jesus Christ Superstar (1970) and other neglected ‘Rock Operas’ of the period are analysed. Their great popularity with ‘mainstream’ audiences is considered and contrasted with the overwhelmingly negative and often internally contradictory reaction towards them from the English ‘counter-culture’. This examination offers new insights into both the ‘counter-culture’ and the ‘mainstream’ against which it claimed to define and differentiate itself.
The four ‘Rock Operas’, two of which are based upon Christian scriptures, are considered as narratives of spiritual quest. The relationship between the often controversial quests for re-defined forms of faith and the apparently precipitous ‘secularization’ and ‘de-Christianization’ of British society during the 1960s and 1970s is considered.
The thesis therefore analyses the ‘Rock Operas’ as significant, enlightening prisms through which to view many of the profound societal debates – over ‘faith’ and ‘belief’ in the widest senses, sexuality, the Vietnam war, generational conflict, drugs and ‘spiritual enlightenment’, and race – which were, to some considerable extent, elevated onto the national, political agenda by the activities of the broadly-defined ‘counter-culture’. It considers subsequent representations of the ‘counter-culture’ as the root of a contested but enduring popular legacy of ‘The Sixties' as a period of profound cultural change
