This collection consists of photographs, negatives, and contact sheets collected by the York County Library. The collection consists mostly of photographs relating to York County SC, many of which are of Rock Hill, SC in particular, and includes photographs of people, places, and events in the county. Some of the subjects include graduating classes of Rock Hill Graded School and of early Rock Hill High School graduating classes, graded school of York faculty, Edgemore School, aerial photographs of downtown Rock Hill, Rock Hill Train Depot, Rock Hill businesses and street scenes, churches, Rock Hill events such as Circus Day and parades, local mills, local homes, Glencairn Gardens, Civil Rights Movement in Rock Hill, York County citizens and homes, and many of other topics of local interest. The collection also includes many photographs, negatives, and contact sheets produced and used by the Rock Hill Herald. The York County Photograph Collections of photographs and negatives from 1940-1953 primarily from York County. Several of the 91 photographs are stamped Joe Azer who was a local photographer. The collection consists of many images of Winthrop College events, scenes, people, and buildings and includes May Day events, WTS football team, the Blue Line with Pix Theater, Winthrop bands, and many other images of campus and student life. Also included are Rock Hill scenes including parades going down Main Street in downtown Rock Hill. The York County Historical Commission was created in 1959 initially to preserve and maintain a former York County plantation at Brattonsville then in a dilapidated state. The Historic District was listed on the National Register in 1971 and named Historic Brattonsville. In 1997, the Museum of York County in Rock Hill, SC, and the York County Historical Commission merged to create the York County Culture and Heritage Commission and has broadened its mission to “communicate and preserve the natural and cultural histories of the Carolina Piedmont, inspiring a lifetime of learning.” The York County Historical Commission Records consists of the Friends of Historic Brattonsville records, a manual of operations and policies of the York County Historical Commission, reports, bylaws, correspondence, memos, agendas, financial records, McCelvey Center Planning records, and meeting minutes of the York County Historical Commission.https://digitalcommons.winthrop.edu/manuscriptcollection_findingaids/2418/thumbnail.jp
