<Articles>Cishi 刺史 in the Former Han 前漢 Dynasty
The purpose of this paper is to clarify the character of Cishi 刺史 in the Former Han 前漢 dynasty. Although Cishi were inspectors, the notions of inspection at that time differed from modern notions of inspection, Cishi had the double responsibility of administration and inspection. Cishi were not absolute local executive officers, but held the administrative control which composed a part of the administrative function. To put it concretely, Chisi helped Chengxiang 丞相 to evaluate the achievements of local officials so as to promote or dismiss them from office. The very notion of administrative control has been lacking among scholars. They recognized the function of Cishi only from the standpoint of modern notions of juridical inspection. If we discuss the problem by such a method, it would not be possible to thoroughly understand the character of Cishi. In this paper, a function of inspection of the Cishi is divided into two aspects. The first aspect is the administrative inspection to impeach the government officials for dishonest acts, and the other is the judicial inspection which prevents false judgements. Cishi worked essentially in the local administration organized by the central government. Therefore it is important that Cishi possessed the right of administrative management. This paper will investigate the presenting a report to the Throne 奏事 by Cishi. We will also investigate the contents of the report and the procedure for the reception of the report. A report to the Throne by the Cishi shows the connection with the System of Administrative Reports 上計制, The report of the Cishi was on one hand received by The Chengxiang Minister's Office 丞相府 which managed administration. And it was also received by Yushizhongchen 御史中丞 who administered inspection. Chengxiang 丞相 evaluated the achievement of local officials on the basis of this report. And the Yushizhongcheng also impeached them on the basis of this report. It was through such system that Cishi fulfilled his double duties of administration and inspection
A Study on the mathematics textbooks in the era of the Great Han Empire
This paper aims to make a whole list of the mathematics textbooks in the era of the Great Han Empire and summerize bibliographical data and linguistic characteristics in view of Korean history. In chapter 1, the author reviewed former studies which deals with the mathematics textbooks in the era of the Great Han Empire. In chapter 2, the author summerized bibliographical data of 45 volumes of 32 kinds textbooks. In chapter 3, the author described linguistic characteristics of the textbooks, especially focusing on writing systems, the use of Arabic numerals, horizontal writing, and presence of index or glossary
Also By The Same Author: AKTiveAuthor, a Citation Graph Approach to Name Disambiguation
The desire for definitive data and the semantic web drive for inference over heterogeneous data sources requires co-reference resolution to be performed on those data. In particular, name disambiguation is required to allow accurate publication lists, citation counts and impact measures to be determined. This paper describes a graph-based approach to author disambiguation on large-scale citation networks. Using self-citation, co-authorship and document source analyses, AKTiveAuthor clusters papers, achieving precision of 0.997 and recall of 0.818 over a test group of eight surname clusters

Corvèe under Han
The author distinguishes between the corvee systems of Ch'in and Han. In spite of the fact that the corvee system underwent a marked change in 167 B. C. in the reign of Emperor Wen of Former Han, the fact has been hitherto almost entirely overlooked. The author tries to reconstruct the Ch'in corvee system from various sources. In the sense that these two ancient empires were despotic in their constitution there was no essential difference between their system of government, but Han succeeded in melting feudalistic residues of the Chan-kuo period into her own system, while Ch'in failed in doing so due to the short period of her rule. Moreover, Ch'in failed in taking local differences into consideration in establishing her institutions. In the author's view the reign of Emperor Wen is significant in the sense that it represents renovation of the feudalistic taxation system and of the uniform and artificial system of local administration

Chengxiangsizhi 丞相司直 in the Former Han Dynasty
As to the inspection system of the Former Han dynasty, little research has been done on the Chengxiangsizhi 丞相司直, a kind of inspector like contemporary Yushi 御史, Cishi 剌史 or Silixiaowei 司隷校尉, on which systematic research has been done. Because of Chengxiangsizhi occupied an important position in the inspection system of the Former Han dynasty, if we do not discuss it a thorough understanding of that inspection system would be impossible. This article focuses on the establishment of Chengxiangsizhi and as its objectives and functions. There were two reasons why the Chengxiangsizhi was installed. One was to administer effectively Chengxiangshi’s 丞相史 inspection tours of localities, and the other was that a special inspector became necessary within the Chengxiang Minister’s Office 丞相府, which had both administrative and inspection power from the time Yushizhongcheng 御史中丞 officially in charge of inspection affairs from middle of the Former Han period. It is this second reason that is considered the most important reason why Chengxiangsizhi was installed. In the author’s opinion, inspections of officials of the central government under the Former Han dynasty can be divided into two kinds: inspection of government agencies and inspections of Imperial Court organs. Therefore the objective of Chengxiangsizhi inspections was government executive officials who managed the daily administrative affairs of central or local governments. The dual system of Chengxiangsizhi and Silixiaowei was adopted in the capital area. Silixiaowei, who separated out the structure of the local administration, only supervised various persons, with the exception of local officials, living and working in capital area, and therefore had no direct relationship with the local administration of this area. It was the Chengxiangsizhi that inspected local executive officers in this area. The Chengxiangsizhi carried out administrative inspections, and its main functions were to impeach government officials for governmental illegal activities and to evaluate the validity of elections of the government official.journal articl
Establishment of reference intervals of 24 chemistries in apparently healthy adult Han population of Northern China
Background: The availability of reference intervals is essential for physicians to interpret laboratory results. Most of our laboratory reference intervals are derived from data on the foreign population. We have studied the reference intervals of 24 common laboratory biochemical tests in an apparently healthy adult Han population of Northern China. Methods: 1364 healthy individuals between 20 and 79years old were recruited. 24 different chemical analytes were tested by the Roche Modular P 800 analyzer. We stratified the populations by gender and age through applying exclusion criteria, and the reference intervals were obtained by statistical analysis. Results: Reference intervals for 24 common analytes in a gender and age appropriate adult Han population of Northern China are reported. Conclusion: Our study provides adequate laboratory data on reference intervals. The results emphasize the significance of establishing population-based reference intervals for a clinical laboratory.
