Should the chronic form of tularemia be defined? Should the treatment of the chronic form be managed differently?
Krein Systems and Canonical Systems on a Finite Interval: Accelerants with a Jump Discontinuity at the Origin and Continuous Potentials
This paper is devoted to connections between accelerants and potentials of Krein systems and of canonical systems of Dirac type, both on a finite interval. It is shown that a continuous potential is always generated by an accelerant, provided the latter is continuous with a possible jump discontinuity at the origin. Moreover, the generating accelerant is uniquely determined by the potential. The results are illustrated on pseudo-exponential potentials. The paper is a continuation of the earlier paper of the authors (Alpay et al. in Modern Analysis and Applications. The Mark Krein Centenary Conference, vol. 2, pp. 19-36, OT 191. Birkhäuser, Basel, 2009) dealing with the direct problem for Krein systems. © 2010 The Author(s)
A nationwide retrospective study in Turkish children with nephrocalcinosis
Background/aim: Nephrocalcinosis (NC) is defined as calcium deposition in the kidney parenchyma and tubules. This study aims to determine the etiology, risk factors, and follow-up results of patients with NC in Turkey. Materials and methods: Patients diagnosed with NC in the pediatric nephrology Department Units of 19 centers from all geographical regions of Turkey over a 10-year period (2010-2019) were included in the study. The medical records from the centers were reviewed and demographic data, admission complaints, medical history, systemic and genetic disorders, risk factors for NC, treatment details, and presence of NC after one-year follow-up, were recorded retrospectively. Results: The study sample included 195 patients (88 females, 107 males). The mean age at diagnosis was 39.44 +/- 47.25 (0.5-208) months; 82/190 patients (43.2%) were diagnosed incidentally; 46/195 patients (23.6%) had an underlying disease; idiopathic hypercalciuria was detected in 75/195 (38.4%) patients. The most common systemic diseases were distal renal tubular acidosis in 11/46 patients (23.9%), primary hyperoxaluria in 9/46 patients (19.6%) and Bartter syndrome in 7/46 patients (15.3%). After one year of follow-up, NC resolved in 56/159 patients (35.2%) and they all did not have an underlying systemic disease. Conclusion: The most common presentation of NC was incidental. Distal renal tubular acidosis and primary hyperoxaluria were the main systemic diseases leading to NC, while hypercalciuria was the most common metabolic risk factor. Nephrocalcinosis was found to remain in most of the patients at a one-year follow-up. It may resolve particularly in patients with no underlying systemic disease
Regional unemployment in Turkey
High unemployment rates are a concern for a country, existence of high regional unemployment differentials is another. Turkey has both. This paper using spatial and nonparametric techniques documents the wide regional unemployment disparities in Turkey from 1980 to 2000. Data indicate that the provincial unemployment rates are quite persistent and the gap across different regions widens even further with spatial clusters emerging across the country. The evidence indicates that human capital and demand deficiency are the sources of observed disparity across provinces. Furthermore, the sources of unemployment differentials have changed over time. Usability and acceptability of a website that provides tailored advice on falls prevention activities for older people
This article presents the usability and acceptability of a website that provides older people with tailored advice to help motivate them to undertake physical activities that prevent falls. Views on the website from interviews with 16 older people and 26 sheltered housing wardens were analysed thematically. The website was well received with only one usability difficulty with the action plan calendar. The older people selected balance training activities out of interest or enjoyment, and appeared to carefully add them into their current routine. The wardens were motivated to promote the website to their residents, particularly those who owned a computer, had balance problems, or were physically active. However, the participants noted that currently a minority of older people use the Internet. Also, some older people underestimated how much activity was enough to improve balance, and others perceived themselves as too old for the activities
The Comparative Design Of A Multistorey Steel Housing Development Building
Tez (Yüksek Lisans) -- İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, 2004Thesis (M.Sc.) -- İstanbul Technical University, Institute of Science and Technology, 2004Bu çalışmada, 20 katlı bir çelik toplu konut binasının statik hesabı yapılmıştır. In this study static calculation of a multistorey steel housing development building which has 20 storey has been made. Static calculations has been made according to both Eurocode-3 and TS-648 standarts. In the last chapter of the thesis an evaluation presents to compare the results obtained from both standarts. In static calculations the author benefitted from Etabs computer program and in drawings the author benefitted form Autocad computer program. At earthquake and wind analysis “Standart for Buildings Which will be Construct in Disaster Regions” standart has been used. At the appendix section 10 drawings and 2 discs include static calculation datums has been presented. As a result of the calculations it has been showned that the building ensured the requirements required for both standarts and has adequate resistance for earthquake and wind forces. The outcome of the camparison between Eurocode- 3 and TS-648 which has been presented at section 8; the Eurocode-3 standart offered a more complex and economic static design opportunity than TS-648 standart.Yüksek LisansM.Sc

The Efficacy of Different Laser Applications on Dentin Sealing in Preventing Discoloration Induced by Mineral Trioxide Aggregate
The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of the pre-application of a dentin-bonding agent and the application of different lasers on the prevention of tooth discoloration caused by mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) in the presence of blood. Sixty extracted human anterior teeth were selected, with root lengths standardized to 10 mm and root canals shaped using Gates-Glidden drills #3 to #5. The samples were divided into six groups (n = 10): Group 1 with no surface treatment and Groups 2 to 6 with Optibond universal adhesive and Neodymium yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG), Erbium yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG), Erbium-chromium-yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (Er:Cr:YSGG), and diode laser applications, respectively. Root canals were filled with fresh human blood, and ProRoot MTA and a collagen barrier were then placed. Color changes were measured with a spectrophotometer at 0, 7, 30, 90, and 180 days post MTA placement. Color differences (∆E) were analyzed using a two-factor mixed-design ANOVA with the Sidak method (p = 0.05). All treatment groups exhibited discoloration above the acceptability threshold. Although all treatment approaches exhibited less color change compared to the control group (p < 0.05), there was no significant difference among them in terms of preventing color change (p > 0.05). It was determined that none of the methods could guarantee 100% prevention of discoloration caused by MTA–blood contact
Preventive Effects of Laser Irradiation and Dentin Bonding Agent Application on Tooth Discoloration Induced by Mineral Trioxide Aggregate
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the pre-application of dentin bonding agent and laser application on the prevention of tooth discoloration caused by (MTA) in the presence of blood. Fifty extracted human anterior teeth were prepared by standardizing root lengths to 10 mm and shaping root canals. Specimens were divided into five groups (n = 10) based on the treatment applied to the pulp chamber dentin wall: Group 1/no surface treatment; Group 2/Optibond FL; Group 3/Clearfil SE; Group 4/Optibond Universal adhesive application; Group 5/Nd:YAG laser application. Root canals were filled with fresh human blood below the cemento-enamel junction (CEJ), followed by ProRoot MTA, and collagen barrier placement. Color changes were monitored using a spectrophotometer at 0, 7, 30, 90, and 180 days post MTA placement. Color differences (∆E) were calculated and analyzed using two-factor mixed-design ANOVA with Sidak adjustment at p = 0.05. The degree of coloration increased with time within each group (p < 0.05). No significant differences were observed between Optibond FL and Optibond Universal within each time interval, or between Clearfill SE Bond and the control group (p > 0.05). When compared to the control group, the Nd YAG group exhibited the least degree of discoloration in all time intervals (p < 0.05). Although the Nd:YAG laser had promising results, none of the methods can guarantee a 100% prevention of discoloration resulting from tooth discoloration caused by MTA-blood contact
