Yü-chien 玉澗, who is as famous as Mu-chi has always been praised till our time as a painter of the “transcendental mode” of the end of the Sung Period and there are fine examples of his works, such as the fragments of the “Scroll of the Eight Views of Hsiao-hsiang” and the fragments of the “View of Lu-shan.” But we have four painters crowned with the name of Yü-chien through the Sung and Yüan Periods, and it is problematical which is the artist of the works we have. Among these four, Mêng Yü-chien i 孟玉澗, who was not a monk and who lived in the latter half of the Yüan Period, can not be and naturally has not been regarded as the artist of these works. As for Pin Yü-chien 彬玉澗, another of the four, we find a poem for his painting in an anthology of a Ch'an monk. But we have not enough material to connect this with the existing “ Yü-chien” works. The other two are Ying Yü-chien 瑩玉澗 and Yü-chien Jo-fên 玉澗若芬. The author earlier presented a hypothetical idea that the “ Yü-chien” we have is Ying Yü-chien, a poet priest in the circle of the famous Ch'an priest Ch'ih-chüeh Tao-ch'ung 癡絶道冲. The reasons were that he was considered to have been one of the pastime painters of the Ch'an Sect, who have been thought to have encouraged ink painting at the end of the Sung Period and that all of the existing works haye Yü-chien's own poems. However, after that, the author found several materials which convinced him that the Yü-chien we have is not Ying Yü-chien but chien Jo-fên, and here presents his new theory. It is as follows. In the anthologies of such literati as Wu Shih-tao 呉師道, Chin Lũ-hsiang 金履祥 and Wang Po 王柏, who are from Chin-hua 金華 as well as Yü-chien Jo-fên, and who were active at the end of Sung and the beginning of Yüan, he found the name of Fên Yü-chien; and there he also found the facts that he was good at simple transcendental ink painting and that he always wrote his own poem on his painting. Not only that, he made it clear that the biography of Yü-chien Jo-fên in Sung-chai-mén-pú 松斎梅譜, written by Wu Tai-su 呉太素, is a rather precise record of Jo-fên and Jo-fên's paintings as he saw and heard of them. From these facts, WEM, the author judges it more reasonable to consider this priest of the Tien-t'ai Sect from Chin-hua of Chê-ching Province as the artist of the extant works than to connect Ying Yü-chien, the poet priest, and these works. This new idea rises a new question for the student of Sung and Yüan ink painting, who generally have tended to em phasize the relationship between the Sung and Yüan ink paintings and the church of the Ch'an sect : on the one hand, it proposes a question about artists' personal taste which may, more than the religious attitude of the Chan sect, have promoted this artistic trend, and also a question about the possible relationship of this trend to the tradition of ink painting in Chê-chiang Pro vince and to the prevalance of the transcendental style in the Sung Period.journal articl

This study examined the relationship among tourism involvement, work engagement and job satisfaction in the hotel industry. Data was gathered from 336 frontline employees of 20 international hotels in Taiwan and was analyzed via structural equation modeling. Findings show that tourism involvement is positively related to work engagement, while both tourism involvement and work engagement are positively related to job satisfaction. Work engagement was found to partially mediate the relationship between tourism involvement and job satisfaction. Implications for hotel managers, limitations and future research directions are discussed.補正完畢國外SSCIY紙本GB

Purpose – Due to the important role of hotel frontline employees in the service encounter, hotel firms strive to understand factors influencing frontline employees’ working attitudes and behaviors. The main purpose of the current study is to enrich this understanding by examining the interrelationships among tourism involvement, organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs). Design –Based on the recovery theory, tourism involvement was hypothesized to influence both organizational commitment and OCBs. Committed employees were hypothesized to be more likely to perform OCBs. The current study further hypothesized a mediating role of organizational commitment in the relationship between tourism involvement and the OCBs. Methodology –Measurements of tourism involvement, organizational commitment, and the OCBs were developed. A total of 336 frontline employees from 20 international hotels in Taiwan voluntarily participated in the current study. Their responses were examined by using independent t -tests, confirmatory factor analyses, and structural equation modelling. Findings –The outcomes demonstrate that tourism involvement positively influenced organizational commitment. Both tourism involvement and organizational commitment positively influenced the OCBs. The organizational commitment was found to be a mediator between tourism involvement and the OCBs. Originality of the research –The most extant studies examined factors influencing the development of organizational commitment and the OCBs by using work-related variables. However, they ignored contributions made by tourism to employees’ work life. The originality of the current study is the link of the non-work variable to work-related attitude and behavior. As such it provides a new insight to managing tourism human resources

[[abstract]]Pilobolus (Tode, 1784) is a common group of coprophilous fungi which habitat on herbivorous faeces, and as a member of Pilobolaceae in the Order of Mucorales. Although the morphological and taxonomic studies of Pilobolus in Taiwan has been reported since 1972, but there hasn't been completely record. Furthermore, there have never been ecological and physiological studies in Taiwan. I collected herbivorous faeces from several sampling sites including Taipei Zoo and Keng Ting etc. in Taiwan and obtained 16 strains. Totally, four species are successfully examined and identified. They are namely: Pilobolus crystallinus Tode, Pilobolus sphaerosporus Palla, Pilobolus umbonatus Buller and Pilobolus comutus Wu & Chien. Pilobolus umbonatus is a new record in Taiwan and Pilobolus comutus is a new species. During my experimental study, isolation, cultivation and examination were proceeded over 30 days. The result indicated that the highest number of sporangia discharge was sika deer dung collected in Taipei Zoo, the highest appearance of frequency is sika deer's, and the lowest is hare's in Keng Ting. Above two criteria, the earliest of the date of climax is muntjac feaces within 3 days, the longest is hare's more than 10 days. Both number of Pilobolus sporangia discharge and appearance of frequency of ruminant feaces are significantly higher than non- ruminant's ( p < 0.0001), and the date of climax is earlier than non- ruminant's ( p < 0.01). The appearance of frequency of sika deer dung in northern Taiwan is significant higher than southern (p < 0.001). The diameter of colonies were measured to analyze the mycelial growth characters of Pilobolus sphaerosporus. The medium containing 100-150 ml dung extract per 1 liter distilled water under 25 - 35 ℃, pH 6 - 9 and complete darkness conditions were detected as optimum growth, and the lowest concentration for Pilobolus growth was determined by using 10 ml dung extract per 1 liter distilled water. Above 4 species of Pilobolus were successfully inoculated onto artificial medium and among these, Pilobolus sphaerosporus shown the fastest growth rate, and Pilobolus comutus the slowest.

The influence of governance on tourism firm performance

    No full text
Corporate governance is a critical mechanism for the success of any firm. In the tourism sector, however, the issue of governance has attracted little research attention. This study enriches the literature on tourism governance by investigating how board size, the proportion of large shareholders and gender diversity on boards affect the financial performance of tourism firms. The sample data were obtained from publicly traded tourism firms in Taiwan. Ordinary least square regressions and two-stage least square regressions were conducted to test the hypotheses. The results show that board size is negatively related to performance and that the presence of large shareholders has a significant influence on tourism firms' return on assets and Tobin's Q. The influence of gender diversity on firm performance, however, was inconsistent. These governance variables are also confirmed as endogenous variables in the tourism sector.補正完畢國外SSCIY電子版GB

Does board governance matter for foreign institutional investors to invest in listed tourism firms?

    No full text
Foreign institutional investors perform a critical role in the development of the tourism industry. While board governance is a critical mechanism in firms, few studies have attempted to investigate whether board governance matters when foreign institutional investors buy shares of tourism firms. Based on signaling theory, the current study uses a sample of listed tourism firms in Taiwan. Board size, board independence and director ownership are used as proxies of board governance. Results show that the ownership proportion of foreign institutional investors is higher when tourism firms have a smaller board and higher director ownership. These results offer theoretical and practical implications for researchers and practitioners.補正完
