    Automated printed circuit board assembly verification and validation system

    With the fast-paced evolution in the engineering field especially in electronics, the design of circuitry is becoming more and more complex. Hence, to make sure the Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) is designed correctly, the prototypes of the PCBA have to be tested and validated before moving on to manufacturing and production process. The InCircuit Test (ICT) and flying probes are too expensive to be applied for a prototype stage. Hence, the verification and validation (V&V) test for the prototype of PCBA is done manually by the V&V engineers. However, it is a complex and time-consuming process. Therefore, there is a requirement to improve the current PCBA prototype verification and validation. This project is proposed to assist V&V engineers to perform a V&V test for PCBA prototype. This project basically consists of a CNC machine, which has total five degrees of freedom with measuring probe at the end effector. Three stepper motors were used to move the x, y and z coordinate of the probe. The stepper motors were controlled by controller myRIO with stepper motor driver A4988. Besides that, another two smaller stepper motors were used for the probing mechanism. The probing mechanism was designed and simulated by using SolidWorks software. For software, the data extraction from the PCB file was done by the algorithm built using LabVIEW. In addition, a graphical user interface (GUI) was also designed and built using LabVIEW. The system was tested in terms of accuracy and consistency by using samples of PCB. The results from the evaluation showed about 70.83% of accuracy in average. Overall, the performance of the system is acceptable and the accuracy of the system can be improved by the implementation of closed-loop control into the system

    Physics-aware reduced-order modeling of transonic flow via beta-variational autoencoder

    © 2022 Author(s).Autoencoder-based reduced-order modeling (ROM) has recently attracted significant attention, owing to its ability to capture underlying nonlinear features. However, two critical drawbacks severely undermine its scalability to various physical applications: entangled and therefore uninterpretable latent variables (LVs) and the blindfold determination of latent space dimension. In this regard, this study proposes the physics-aware ROM using only interpretable and information-intensive LVs extracted by β-variational autoencoder, which are referred to as physics-aware LVs throughout this paper. To extract these LVs, their independence and information intensity are quantitatively scrutinized in a two-dimensional transonic flow benchmark problem. Then, the physical meanings of the physics-aware LVs are thoroughly investigated and we confirmed that with appropriate hyperparameter β, they actually correspond to the generating factors of the training dataset, Mach number, and angle of attack. To the best of our knowledge, our work is the first to practically confirm that β-variational autoencoder can automatically extract the physical generating factors in the field of applied physics. Finally, physics-aware ROM, which utilizes only physics-aware LVs, is compared with conventional ROMs, and its validity and efficiency are successfully verified.N

    Tensile and impact properties are important mechanical properties for loading-bearing materials. They are important selection criteria when incorporating as a structural element for transportation use, especially for aerospace. In the era of rising fuel cost and environmental awareness, weight and recyclability have also become an important criterion. The material studied here was a thermoplastic-based fibre-metal laminate (FML), which consisted of a self-reinforced polypropylene composite (Tegris) sandwiched between aluminium sheets, with a polyolefin-based adhesive film (INTEGRAL E100) as an interlayer adhesive. The properties were tested and compared to aluminium and the thermoplastic composites. The FMLs were fabricated using a one step hot press procedure with a 2/1 configuration in an aluminium mould designed by the author. Throughout the fabrication, the interlayer adhesion revealed to be a critical property and major challenge.     Other endings of Mark as responses to Mark : an ideological-critical investigation into the longer and the shorter ending of Mark's Gospel

    The Longer Ending and the Shorter Ending of Mark's Gospel are the ancient Markan readers' responses to Mark's Gospel. This leads us to the question of how the authors of these endings read their Mark's Gospel. These endings reflect the ideologies of their authors. The ideologies are related to the interests of the author or the authorial community (ideological primary group), and are embedded within the text. The Longer and the Shorter Ending were produced within a social context where the matter of apostolic authoritative leadership was a sensitive issue. A potential conflict is found in many contemporary texts from the NT and the extra- canonical texts, especially with regard to the apostolic authority of Mary Magdalene and Peter. Their struggles for apostolic authority are often found in the post-Easter narrative context. The assumed ideological primary community of the Longer Ending is Pro- Magdalene. It acknowledged Mary Magdalene as its authoritative leader who enjoyed apostolic authority especially over Peter. This community was interested in mission, and re-authenticated the mission of the Eleven. The LE provides a certain guideline for the qualification of leadership in the LE's community, which is the visual experience of the resurrected Jesus. The assumed ideological primary community of the Shorter Ending is Pro- Petrine. It was in favour of Peter, and suggested him as holding authoritative apostolic authority. This community wanted to clarify the resurrection of Jesus, and emended the empty tomb narrative of Mark's Gospel. It was also interested in mission, and the authority of disciples, especially that of Peter, in their performing mission tasks is highlighted in the Shorter Ending

    Traditional Chinese Medicine Body Constitutions as Predictors for Depression: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    Traditional Chinese medicine body constitution (TCMBC) reflects a person’s vulnerability to diseases. Thus, identifying body constitutions prone to depression can help prevent and treat depression. The review aimed to assess and summarize the existing evidence that explores the relationship between TCMBC and depression. Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, MEDLINE, PubMed, CNKI, Wanfang, SinoMed, Embase, VIP, CINAHL, and CMJ were searched from inception to April 2021. Observational studies assessing the association between TCMBC and depression were selected. The quality of the included studies were assessed using the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale (NOS). Eighteen studies were included in the systematic review and thirteen in the meta-analysis. The pooled odd ratios of developing depression for Qi-stagnation, Qi-deficiency, Yang-deficiency, Yin-deficiency, and Balanced constitutions were 3.12 (95% CI, 1.80–5.40; I2 = 94%), 2.15 (95% CI, 1.54–3.01; I2 = 89%), 1.89 (95% CI, 0.71–5.03; I2 = 81%), 1.41 (95% CI, 0.91–2.20; I2 = 57%), and 0.60 (95% CI, 0.40–0.90; I2 = 94%), respectively. The findings suggest that the evaluation of a person’s TCMBC could be useful the in prevention and treatment of depression. However, more case-control and cohort studies are required to further confirm the association between TCMBC and depression

    Design and analysis of amino acid supplementation in hepatocyte culture using in vitro experiment and mathematical modeling:

    Extracorporeal bioartificial liver (BAL) devices, involving primary hepatocytes, represent a promising option to provide temporary support for patients with liver failure. Current use of BAL is primary challenged by development of techniques for long-term culture of hepatocytes during plasma exposure, as occurs during clinical application. Previous in vitro studies and mathematical modeling analysis have shown that supplementation of amino acids to the plasma enhances liver-specific functions and reduces lipid accumulation. However, further improvement would be enhanced greatly by development of a rational strategy to design the profile of amino acid supplementation and by better understanding of the metabolic objectives of hepatocytes, and how they vary as a function of amino acid supplementation. In order to address these issues, a rational design approach was first developed using flux balance analysis (FBA) to determine a profile of amino acid supplementation to achieve a specific cellular objective (urea production) in cultured hepatocytes exposed to plasma. Experiments based on the designed supplementation showed that both urea and albumin production were increased compared with previously reported (empirical) amino acid supplementation. However, the experimental values did not match our theoretical prediction mainly due to the insufficient constraints imposed to the modeling. In an attempt to improve the model accuracy, we incorporated pathway energy balance (PEB) constraints, and amino acids transport constraints. It is found that both PEB and transport constraints significantly reduce the feasible region of the flux space. Moreover, metabolic objective prediction (MOP) model reveals that hepatocytes respond to variations in available amino acid supplementation by changing their metabolic objectives and pathway utilization. In particular, the analysis shows that fatty acid oxidation is vital to reduce the rate of lipid accumulation and to increase liver-specific functions with amino acid supplementation. This study leads to a better understanding of amino acid supplementation effects on hepatocytes during plasma exposure based on the integration of in vitro experiments and mathematical modeling.     Associations of cord plasma per- and polyfluoroakyl substances (PFAS) with neonatal and child body composition and adiposity: The GUSTO study

    Background: The influence of prenatal exposure to per- and poly- fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on birth size and offspring adiposity is unclear, especially for the newer, shorter-chained replacement PFAS. Methods: In the GUSTO multi-ethnic Singaporean mother-offspring cohort, 12 PFAS were measured in 783 cord plasma samples using ultra-performance-liquid chromatography-tandem-mass-spectrometer (UPLC-MS/MS). Outcomes included offspring anthropometry, other indicators of body composition/metabolic health, and MRI-derived abdominal adiposity (subset) at birth and 6 years of age. PFAS were modeled individually, in categories of long-chain and short-chain PFAS, and as scores of three principal components (PC) derived using PC analysis (PC1, PC2, and PC3 reflect predominant exposure patterns to “very-long-PFAS”, “long-PFAS”, and “short-PFAS”, respectively). Associations with outcomes were assessed using multivariable linear regressions, adjusted for important covariates such as maternal sociodemographic and lifestyle factors. Results: Overall, cord PFAS levels showed either no or positive associations (mostly for long-chain PFAS) with birth weight, length and head circumference. In general, PFAS were associated with higher neonatal abdominal adiposity, driven by shorter-chain PFAS. Perfluoroheptanoic acid (PFHpA) was associated with higher volumes of superficial subcutaneous adipose tissue (sSAT) (3.75 [1.13, 6.37] mL per SD increase in PFAS) and internal adipose tissue (IAT) (1.39 [0.41, 2.38] mL). Higher levels of perfluorobutanesulfonic acid (PFBS), short-chain PFAS, and PC3 were associated with higher IAT volume (β range 1.22–1.41 mL/SD, all P < 0.02), especially in girls. Higher PC3 score was additionally associated with higher sSAT (3.12 [0.45, 5.80] mL) volume. At age 6 years, most observed associations did not persist. No consistent associations were observed between PFAS and whole-body adiposity measures. Conclusions: Fetal exposure to emerging short-chain PFAS was associated with higher abdominal adiposity at birth but not at age 6 years. Further research is needed to replicate the findings and to determine if these effects may reappear beyond early childhood.
