Descifrar la Revolución
Book Review as author Javier Garciadiego, entitled "Tests of socio-political history of the Mexican Revolution," published in 2011. In the words of historian Pablo Yankelevich, "Garciadiego, in compiling this volume of his work scattered in endless books and magazines, reveals the breadth of issues that studies and originality of their research strategies. Seen as a whole, the essays are meant as a renewed effort to examine the complexity of Mexican history in the late nine hundred . Settles scores that way contradicts myths, warns on ways and fashions that have dealt with characters, circumstances and events of the Revolution. Facing national history paintings painted solely in black and white, this book is a reminder of the dangers of mixing the passions of the past with the present factions. Pages of this book, a notorious border separates old and new songs in the history and historiography of the Mexican Revolution. For good measure, some of the essays are a good example of the inherent tentativeness of historical knowledge.
Collective Bargaining Systems in Six Latin American Countries: Degrees of Autonomy and Decentralization (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay)
The transition to a market driven development strategy in Latin America for more than a decade has redefined business strategies and reshaped the state`s traditional role as guarantor of employment, stability, and protection. These changes, plus the move to create more flexible labor markets in some countries, have lead to the elimination or reduction of legislated employment protections and benefits, creating space for unions to enlarge their role in collective bargaining.
The factors which influence the selection of physical targets by terrorist groups
The aim of terrorism is to influence a group of people
or institutions - the psychological target or targets - by
attacking the appropriate physical targets in order to prompt
the desired response. Several factors influence the selection
of physical targets by non-state terrorist groups. These
include the ideology of the terrorist group concerned, the
strategy adopted by the group and its capabilities, its need
to take account of external opinion - including that of
supporters, the measures adopted to protect likely targets,
and the security environment within which the terrorist group
operates. In addition, decision-making is affected by the
dynamics within the group which are in turn affected by the
psychological pressures of clandestinity and the frequent
risk of death or capture which many terrorists run.
The relationship between these factors varies from
group to group, which is inevitable given the idiosyncratic
nature of most terrorist groups, and the different
circumstances in which they find themselves. However, it can
generally be said that ideology sets out the moral framework
within which terrorists operate - and which determines
whether terrorists judge it to be legitimate to attack a
range of target. After this, the determination of which
targets it will actually be beneficial to attack depends upon
the strategy which the group has adopted as a means of
achieving its political objectives. The determination of
their strategic objectives depends upon the effects which the
terrorists hope their attacks will achieve. Thus, strategy
further refines the range of targets initially delimited by
the group's ideology.
The other factors mentioned tend to act as constraints
upon the group, partly - as with security measures - in
restricting them from carrying out the types of attacks which
they would desire but also in encouraging them to carry out
attacks on certain targets in the hope of gaining benefits
such as the approval of their supporters, or of gaining
publicity for their cause. Underlying all of this is the
human factor, whereby relations within the group, the impact
of psychological pressure, and individual differences in
moral judgements may influence the targets chosen by
terrorists
Guidance on noncorticosteroid systemic immunomodulatory therapy in noninfectious uveitis: fundamentals of care for uveitis (focus) initiative
Topic: An international, expert-led consensus initiative to develop systematic, evidence-based recommendations for the treatment of noninfectious uveitis in the era of biologics.
Clinical Relevance: The availability of biologic agents for the treatment of human eye disease has altered practice patterns for the management of noninfectious uveitis. Current guidelines are insufficient to assure optimal use of noncorticosteroid systemic immunomodulatory agents.
Methods: An international expert steering committee comprising 9 uveitis specialists (including both ophthalmologists and rheumatologists) identified clinical questions and, together with 6 bibliographic fellows trained in uveitis, conducted a Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses protocol systematic reviewof the literature (English language studies from January 1996 through June 2016; Medline [OVID], the Central Cochrane library, EMBASE,CINAHL,SCOPUS,BIOSIS, andWeb of Science). Publications included randomized controlled trials, prospective and retrospective studies with sufficient follow-up, case series with 15 cases or more, peer-reviewed articles, and hand-searched conference abstracts from key conferences. The proposed statements were circulated
among 130 international uveitis experts for review.Atotal of 44 globally representativegroupmembersmet in late 2016 to refine these guidelines using a modified Delphi technique and assigned Oxford levels of evidence.
Results: In total, 10 questions were addressed resulting in 21 evidence-based guidance statements covering the following topics: when to start noncorticosteroid immunomodulatory therapy, including both biologic and nonbiologic agents; what data to collect before treatment; when to modify or withdraw treatment; how to select agents based on individual efficacy and safety profiles; and evidence in specific uveitic conditions. Shared decision-making, communication among providers and safety monitoring also were addressed as part of the recommendations. Pharmacoeconomic considerations were not addressed.
Conclusions: Consensus guidelines were developed based on published literature, expert opinion, and practical experience to bridge the gap between clinical needs and medical evidence to support the treatment of patients with noninfectious uveitis with noncorticosteroid immunomodulatory agents
