On the Terrestrial Earthworm Fauna of Yamagata Prefecture, northeastern Japan
論文(Article)We conducted to collect earthworms in order to clarify the earthworm fauna of Yamagata Prefecture. We could collect 16 species belonging to two families including two undescribed species from six localities. To our knowledge, it is first time to record Pheretima aokii, P. megascolidioides, P. micronaria and Aporrectodea caliginosa from Yamagata Prefecture. Therefore, except for two species which could not identified as known species, 18 valid species of earthworms exist in Yamagata Prefecture including our result. Creating the forest vegetation map of Tohoku region in response to mass mortality of oak trees damage
This paper addresses the management of mass mortality of oak trees damage by creating a forest vegetation distribution map for the entire Tohoku region in Japan. Mass mortality of oak trees, caused by the wilting disease in beech family trees, has decreased nationwide since its peak in 2010, but its northward expansion persists. The Tohoku region, especially in Aomori and Iwate prefectures, experiences damage, indicating the mortality’s reach in even the northernmost areas. The primary strategy against mass mortality of oak trees involves eradicating the Kashinonaga Kikuimushi beetle (Platypus quercivorus), a carrier of the pathogenic fungus on dead trees, making predicting the beetle’s habitat crucial for effective prevention. Building on forecasting methods used in Yamagata Prefecture, this study creates a vegetation distribution map for mass mortality of oak trees in the entire Tohoku region.The map reveals high susceptibility to mass mortality of oak trees in regions such as the Ou Mountains, Tsugaru Peninsula in Aomori, Shimokita Peninsula, Shirakami Mountains, Kitakami Mountains, northern Dewa Mountains, and areas from Chokai Mountain to Asahi and Onnagatake. These regions with abundant Mizunara (Quercus mongolica v.grosseserrats Rehd. et Wils.) and Konara (Quercus serrata Murray var. serrata) raise concerns about damage. Accuracy validation using 2010 mass mortality of oak trees damage data collected in Yamagata Prefecture indicates approximately 50% accuracy, suggesting the map’s reliability for planning preventive measures. Strategies include effective early control for individual trees but emphasize that as damage increases and disperses, the efficacy diminishes, emphasizing the fundamental approach of harvesting, utilizing, and renewing healthy oak forests

Acute Aortic Dissection : Experience in Yamagata Prefecture in 2000
論文(Article)Objective: Prefectural clinico-epidemiological survey of acute aortic dissection has not been widely carried out. Methods: We collected data of all patients with acute aortic dissection in Yamagata Prefecture, and retrospectively reviewed their primary treatments throughout 2000. Results: There were 71 patients with an acute aortic dissection and an incidence calculated from this number was 5.7 per 100,000 people per year. Patient's age was 23-92(69+14) years. Male and female ratio was 44/27. Stanford type A aortic dissection was 35 patients and B 35. Complications of acute aortic dissection were shock in 12, cardiac tamponade in 16, rupture in 5, abdominal ischemia in 8, limb ischemia in 6 and brain infarction in 2. Two patients were in cardiac pulmonary arrest on arrival. Overall inhospital mortality was 13%, except for 2 patients. In Stanford A type aortic dissection, surgery was done in 21 and mortality was 9.5%; among those not receiving surgery mortality was 29%. In Stanford type B aortic dissection, death occurred in 2 patients out of 5 after emergency operation, and no putients out of 30 who were medically treated. Conclusion: Incidence of acute aortic dissection calculated from this survey was 5.7 per 100,000 people per year in Yamagata Prefecture. Seven of 71(10%) died in the acute phase. Operative mortality for Stanford type A aortic dissection was 9.5%, while that of medical management was 29%. Operative mortality for Stanford type B aortic dissection was high, but medical treatment had no mortality. More aggressive treatment would improve initial results of acute aortic dissection.
