Souvenir of Southern Oregon and Shasta Cascade Wonderland from Wataru Hishikawa
A collection of pictures of Southern Oregon and Shasta Cascade Wonderland, which is a souvenir from Wataru Hishikawa to Mitzi Masukawa Naohara. Wataru sent it from the Tule Lake camp in California, where he was transferred from the Poston camp in Arizona, to Mitzi, who was an incarceree remained in the Poston camp. It appears that he purchased the souvenir during the trip transferred from the Poston camp to the Tule Lake camp. The caption reads: Souvenir of Southern Oregon and Shasta Cascade Wonderland from Wataru Hishikawa, 1306-13-D Newel, California, 1943. Title from caption. An item from: Mitzi Naohara scrapbook (csudh_nao_0400), page 1.The George and Mitzi Naohara Papers consists of photo albums and scrapbooks compiled by George and Mitzi Naohara, and other documents pertaining to the Naohara and Masukawa family. Contained are photographs, correspondence, documents, and memorabilia depicting their experiences during World War II. George Nobuo Naohara is a Kibei Nisei, and his experiences include his farm labor in Idaho and Utah, incarceration in the Manzanar, Jerome, and Tule Lake camps, and the U.S. Army language school training and Korean War. He also engaged in Buddhist activities for his whole life and there are moving images depicting Gardena Buddhist Church activities after the war. Mitzi Masukawa Naohara was a preschool teacher at the Poston camp, Arizona, and also a member of a young Nisei women's club, "Sigma Debs.” Her collected materials depict her life as a teacher and social events in the Poston camp during the war
Fighting fascism with 'verbal bullets': Kaji wataru and the antifascist struggle in wartime East Asia
This article examines the cultural production of Kaji Wataru, founder of the Zaika Nihonjinmin hansen dōmei [ Japanese People's Antiwar League in China] to illuminate what strategies Kaji used to train prisoners-of-war and to convert Japanese soldiers as a way to counter fascism during the second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945). Scholars have tended to focus on unravelling the history surrounding Kaji Wataru and the Antiwar League. In doing so, they have often overlooked the constructive role his cultural works played in that history and in his antiwar thought. The author aims to show how Kaji's reportage works, and plays, were the very media he used to develop and execute his antifascist visions and activities. The focus is on three reportage works and one play that best reflect Kaji's antifascist strategies. Analyzing the texts, the author highlights descriptions dealing with the organization and activities of the Antiwar League as well as the cooperation with the Chinese resistance as part of the popular front in East Asia.published_or_final_versio
A case of metastatic testicular tumor in a schizophrenic patient: experience of multidisciplinary treatment at the urology ward
A 39-year-old man with schizophrenia and suicide attempt was diagnosed with stage IIb testicular tumor. He was initially admitted to the psychiatry ward and underwent high orchiectomy. After schizophrenia became stable by administration of antipsychopathic drugs, he was transferred to the ordinary urology ward and treated with 3 courses of chemotherapy (bleomycin, etoposide, cisplatin) and retroperitoneal lymph noded dissection. The mental status of the patient remained under good control throughout the course of treatment. He has been free of recurrence for 8 months postoperatively. We discussed general medical issues concerning the treatment of malignant diseases in patients with psychosis
Letter from residents requesting prisoner release, February 18, 1944
Letter from residents requesting the release of two incarerees: Wataru Obara, and Hiroichi Shimamura, detained in army stockades at Tule Lake Camp. The Willard Schmidt collection, documents some of the administrative duties of Willard Schmidt, the Chief of Internal Security for the War Relocation Authority and the Tule Lake incarceration/segregation camp. This collection contains administrative records and photos documenting the Tule Lake camp, the largest incarceration camp with a peak population of 18,789 and with the most turbulent history. In 1943, the camp was turned into a segregation center to house "disloyal" Japanese Americans relocated from other camps based on their answers to a confusing loyalty questionnaire. The camp endured martial law from November 1943- Jan 1944 after escalating protests and unrest. The hostile environment of the camp lead to many incarcerees renouncing their American citizenship upon the end of incarceration, a process which took 14 years to reverse if they did not wish to be deported to Japan

The papers presented in this volume of RIMS Kôkyûroku Bessatsu are in final form and refereed. This is an announcement of results by the author[2], which will be submitted elsewhere. We sketch how a p-adic exponential map for the Picard group is defined for schemes proper and flat over the integer ring of a complete discrete valuation field of characteristic 0. The main ingredients are formal geometry and a property of coherent cohomology called the exchange property. An application to the Albanese map is included

ON THE CONJECTURES OF BEILINSON-TATE FOR SIEGEL SIXFOLDS (Algebraic Number Theory and Related Topics)
These are the (extended) notes of a talk given by the author at the conference Algebraic Number Theory and Related Topics 2023, held at the Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Kyoto University. The author thanks the organizers Masataka Chida, Yoichi Mieda, and Wataru Kai for the wonderful opportunity to speak there. In this survey, we discuss our recent works [BGCLRJ23], [CLJ22] on the Beilinson-Tate conjectures for the Siegel sixfold and the description of Deligne-Beilinson cohomology in terms of tempered currents.1. On the Albanese cokernel of varieties over -adic fields (Algebraic Number Theory and Related Topics 2014)
"Algebraic Number Theory and Related Topics 2014". December 1~5, 2014. edited by Takeshi Tsuji, Hiroki Takahashi and Yuichiro Hoshi. The papers presented in this volume of RIMS Kôkyûroku Bessatsu are in final form and refereed. This is an announcement of results by the author [4]. Let X be a smooth projective variety over a p-adic field K. In this article we present a conjectural formula describing the cokernel of the Albanese map of zero-cycles for X in terms of the N eron-Severi group and sketch a proof that it is true under additional assumptions on an integral model of X. The case where X is a curve has been settled by Lichtenbaum completely. We will also briefly mention the local-global problem for the Albanese-cokernel; the abelian group on the "local side" turns out to be a finite group
A non-causal approach for suppressing the estimation delay of state observer
BState estimation is essential for tracking conditions which can not be directly measured by sensors, or are too noisy. The aim of this poster is to present an approach to mitigate the phase delay without compromising the noise sensitivity, by using accessible future data. Such use of future data can be possible in cases like Iterative Learning Control, where full data of the previous trial is acquired beforehand. The effectiveness of the presented approach is verified through a motion system experiment, successfully showing the state estimation improvement in time domain. The presented non-causal approach improves the trade-offs between the phase delay of the estimation and the noise sensitivity of the state observer.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Team Jan-Willem van Wingerde
