A comparison of energy behavior of a sunspace through EN ISO 13790 methods and dynamic simulation tools
The increasing of insulation levels both of opaque and transparent building envelope and the consequent rising of the gains to losses ratio make solar gains becoming essential in influencing the thermal energy balance of building, both in summer and in winter season. For this reason, as passive solar applications, such as attached sunspace, are becoming important, it is therefore of great importance to properly evaluate the solar gains entering the conditioned space through sunspace, in order to better consider the advantages of such passive solar systems. This paper presents a comparison between simplified and detailed methods in order to calculate solar heat gains entering a conditioned space through sunspace. A case study has been analyzed through EN ISO 13790, assessing energy performance both with monthly quasi steady-state calculation and simple hourly dynamic calculation method, and through a detailed dynamic simulation tool (EnergyPlus). Investigations on viral aetiology of diarrhea in puppies.
In this research, the role of Canine Parvovirus-2 (CPV-2), Canine Corona Virus (CCoV), Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) and Canine Rotavirus (CRV) were investigated as an aetiological agent in diarrheic puppies.
For that purpose, faeces sampled from 90 diarrheic puppies were evaluated for CPV-2 by hemagglütination reaction and for CCoV genom by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Twenty five of these samples were tested for the presence of CDV genome by RT- PCR and for the presence of CRV genomic segments by polyacrilamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE). On the other hand faeces from 14 puppies with respiratory and enteric symptoms were also tested for CDV. All of animals sampled were aged between 0-4 months old.
Thirty two (35.5%) among 90 samples were positive for CPV-2, and 14 (15.5) samples were positive for CCoV genome. None of these samples had cross positivity for both viruses. Out of 39 samples tested for CDV, 15 (38.4%) were positive for CDV genom. There was no faecal sample containing CRV genomic segments.
Results of this study demonstrate that CPV-2 is the most prevalent viral agent in clinical diarrhea cases of puppies, and is followed by CCoV and CDV virus. It can be clearly said that, these three viruses were at least related to 58.6% of diarrhea cases in the age group investigated
Prevalence of feline coronavirus antibodies in cats in Bursa province, Turkey, by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay
Feline sera from Bursa province (Turkey) were assayed for coronavirus antibody
using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The study was
performed on 100 sera collected from cats belonging to catteries or community
shelters and to households. The serum samples were initially tested with the
virus neutralisation (VN) test and the results were then compared with the
ELISA. The VN yielded 79 negative and 21 positive sera but the ELISA
confirmed only 74 as negative. The ELISA-negative sera were also found to be
free of feline coronoviruses-specific antibodies by Western blotting. Using the
VN as the gold standard test, ELISA had a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of
93.6%, with an overall agreement of 95%. The Kappa (k) test indicated high
association between the two tests (k 1⁄4 0.86, 95% confidence interval (CI)
0.743e0.980). The positive predictive value (PPV) was 0.8, and the negative
predictive value (NPV) was 0.93. The prevalence of FCoV II antibodies in the
sampled population based on the gold standard was 62% (95% CI 0.44e0.77)
among multi-cat environments, and 4% (95% CI 0.01e0.11) among single cat
households
