CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK FOR SMART E-LIBRARY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IBRAHIM BABANGIDA LIBRARY, MODIBBO ADAMA UNIVERSITY YOLA, NIGERIA
This study investigates the design of a Conceptual framework for Smart E-library Management System for use by the Ibrahim Babangida Library, Modibbo Adama University, Yola. The study is guided by 2 objectives to help in overcoming the current challenges being encountered in the management of eResources and planning. The research study is designed to help staff enhance performance in providing library services electronically; it helps students reduce rigour of manual usage, it will guide ICT directorate develop a blueprint in developing software for libraries and add to existing body of knowledge. This study also evaluated an existing framework that is based on cloud computing and came with a server based Smart E-Library Management System. The study concluded that Smart e-Library Management System is an essential component in the academic library. The study focuses on concept, access, management, services and ease of access via the browser-based platform. This help in obtaining much resources as possible from the users for the library, and this include post graduate theses and dissertations. The design and development of Smart Elibrary Management System if adopted by the Ibrahim Babangida library, it will resolve the current e-resources management crisis

Student oral presentations: incorporating peer e-assessment
This presentation details how an approach to the development of presentation skills with first year accountancy students has been developed to incorporate peer assessment. Presentation skills are considered important by both recruiters and academic bodies (Stowe, 2010) but despite this, accountancy graduates tend to have “inadequate oral communication skills” when commencing employment (Gray, 2010). In order to help the students develop their skills and confidence in delivering presentations, Accountants in Organisations, a first year core module taken by BA Accountancy and Finance students at the University of Huddersfield, has long included two formative presentations and an end of year summative presentation. The formative feedback provided in the first two presentations originally came from the tutor while peers participated only as an audience. The final summative assessment was presented only to the two module tutors.
In order to raise involvement, extend student assessment skills and increase formative feedback, peer assessment was incorporated in the process. Involving peers in the assessment of presentations supports the development of judgement and can improve reliability (Magin and Helmore, 2001). Such an approach also provides peers with a clear purpose during the presentation and may therefore lead to greater interest and participation (MacAlpine, 1999).
The use of e-assessment facilitates the rapid provision of written feedback; an attribute valued by students (Browne and Shurville, 2007; NUS, 2010). Whereas, previously presenters had one set of feedback provided by the tutor, they now have extensive feedback from the whole audience which requires little administration
The estimation of groundwater recharge by soil water balance in semi-arid regions
Quantification of groundwater recharge is a crucial prerequisite for sustainable
groundwater resource management, particularly in semi-arid areas where there are large
demands for groundwater supplies. This research presents an alternative approach for
recharge estimation based on the soil water balance technique. The purpose is to
develop a model which provides a suitable balance between physical credibility and
data which realistically can be gathered.
A spreadsheet model was written based on the conceptual representation of the principal
physical processes which actually affect recharge in a semi-arid area. Alternative
procedures were included in order to represent: (a) the estimation of runoff, (b) the
inclusion of the period with predominant bare soil evaporation and (c) the accounting
for evapotranspiration following rainfall on dry soil.
The model was tested using real data from a semi-arid region (Northeast Nigeria)
making use of selected periods of days and years in order to illustrate the principal
model characteristics. The results were presented in the form of diagrams and graphs
helping to visualise the interactions between the physical components and the effect of
the additional procedures on recharge estimation.
The credibility of the model was investigated using an alternative concept of "analysis
of plausibility". This concept makes use of as wide as possible a range of quantitative
and qualitative information from the hydrological system in order to verify the
robustness of the model when extensive datasets required by conventional validation
techniques are not available. The results suggested that the modelled recharge is
physically sound and it is in line with the overall determination of recharge in semi-arid
areas by a range of methods.
The soil water balance model was utilised to explore important aspects of recharge in
semi-arid regions showing the effect of the field variability on the model's output. The
preliminary results show that the developed concept reasonably represents the inherent
field variability, thus corroborating the strength of the approach for recharge estimation
in semi-arid regions
The Value of Cooperation: Studies on the Performance Outcomes of Interorganizational Alliances.
Strategic alliances have gradually emerged over the last decades as a primary vehicle for corporate growth. Firms increasingly use strategic alliances to enter new markets, develop new products and obtain access to relevant knowledge and technological capabilities. Hoewever, while alliances can promote growth and create value they can also destroy it. The prevalence of alliances coupled with the considerable variation in their success rates has led to an increased effort by both scholars and practitioners to find out whether firms benefit from emerging alliances and what makes for a succesful alliance. Yet, despite the large number of studies conducted to date, past empirical research provides no consensus on (a) whether on average, firms benefit from entering alliances, (b) why some alliances create more firm value than others, and (c) the determinants of the performance of alliances themselves. Research presented in this dissertation uses meta-analysis to address these questions and obtain firm empirical generalizations on the performance outcomes of strategic alliances.
Influencia del género en el desempeño de las instituciones microfinancieras: el caso de América Latina y el Caribe
The objective of this investigation is to determine the influence of the female labor force on the performance of the microfinance institutions (IMFs) of Latin America and the Caribbean (ALCA). Based on data obtained in the Mix Market, the influence of women was analyzed in positions as loan officers, managers and board members of 171 IMFS from 18 countries in the region during the period 2010–2018, on the efficiency, productivity, financial performance and outreach. The results show that female loan officers and female managers have a positive influence on performance while female board do it negatively. However, when analyzing the influence of the female boards on those boards where they have a majority participation, a better performance is observed. It is recommended to increase the female presence in the IMFs workforce, especially at higher levels.
