Rice MADS6 interacts with the floral homeotic genes SUPERWOMAN1, MADS3, MADS58, MADS13, and DROOPING LEAF in specifying floral organ identities and meristem fate
AGAMOUS-LIKE6 (AGL6) genes play essential roles in flower development, but whether and how they work with floral organ identity genes remain less understood. Here, we describe interactions of the rice (Oryza sativa) AGL6 gene MADS6 with other rice floral homeotic genes in flower development. Genetic analyses revealed that MADS6 specifies the identity of the three inner whorls and floral meristem determinacy redundantly with SUPERWOMAN1/MADS16 (B-gene) or MADS3 (C-gene). MADS6 was shown to define carpel/ovule development and floral determinacy by interacting with MADS13 (D-gene) and control the palea and floral meristem identities together with the YABBY gene DROOPING LEAF. Expression analyses revealed that the transcript levels of six B-, C-, and E-class genes were reduced in mads6-1 at the early flower developmental stage, suggesting that MADS6 is a key regulator of early flower development. Moreover, MADS6 can directly bind to a putative regulatory motif on MADS58 (C-gene), and mads6-1 mads58 displayed phenotypes similar to that of mads6-1. These results suggest that MADS6 is a key player in specifying flower development via interacting with other floral homeotic genes in rice, thus providing new insights into the mechanism by which flower development is controlled.Haifeng Li, Wanqi Liang, Yun Hu, Lu Zhu, Changsong Yin, Jie Xu, Ludovico Dreni, Martin M. Combining convolutional attention mechanism and residual deformable Transformer for infarct segmentation from CT scans of acute ischemic stroke patients
BackgroundSegmentation and evaluation of infarcts on medical images are essential for diagnosis and prognosis of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Computed tomography (CT) is the first-choice examination for patients with AIS.MethodsTo accurately segment infarcts from the CT images of patients with AIS, we proposed an automated segmentation method combining the convolutional attention mechanism and residual Deformable Transformer in this article. The method used the encoder-decoder structure, where the encoders were employed for downsampling to obtain the feature of the images and the decoder was used for upsampling and segmentation. In addition, we further applied the convolutional attention mechanism and residual network structure to improve the effectiveness of feature extraction. Our code is available at: https://github.com/XZhiXiang/AIS-segmentation/tree/master.ResultsThe proposed method was assessed on a public dataset containing 397 non-contrast CT (NCCT) images of AIS patients (AISD dataset). The symptom onset to CT time was less than 24 h. The experimental results illustrate that this work had a Dice coefficient (DC) of 58.66% for AIS infarct segmentation, which outperforms several existing methods. Furthermore, volumetric analysis of infarcts indicated a strong correlation (Pearson correlation coefficient = 0.948) between the AIS infarct volume obtained by the proposed method and manual segmentation.ConclusionThe strong correlation between the infarct segmentation obtained via our method and the ground truth allows us to conclude that our method could accurately segment infarcts from NCCT images
Self healing of radiation-induced damage in Fe–Au and Fe–Cu alloys: Combining positron annihilation spectroscopy with TEM and ab initio calculations
Self healing of early stage radiation damage by site selective solute segregation is a promising approach to extend the lifetime of nuclear reactor components. In the present study, the creation and autonomous healing of irradiation-induced damage is investigated in pure Fe and high purity Fe–Au and Fe–Cu model alloys. To create radiation damage samples are irradiated at 550 °C by 120 keV He+ ions with fluences of 5.0 × 1015, 1.0 × 1016 and 5.0 × 1016 ions/cm2. The observed increase in the S and W parameters determined in the variable energy positron annihilation spectroscopy measurements indicates the formation of vacancy-like defects, precipitates and vacancy-solute complexes. The presence of substitutionally dissolved Au is found to reduce the formation of radiation defects more efficiently than solute Cu. Site-specific Au precipitation at defect sites is indicated, which results in damage healing with a reduced swelling, whereas Cu precipitates and radiation damage only show weak interaction. Ab initio calculations show that the binding energies of Au solutes to vacancy clusters (Au-Vn) are significantly larger than those of Cu solutes (Cu-Vn) whereas the binding energies of helium filled vacancy clusters Au-HenVn and Cu-HenVn are comparable.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.RST/Fundamental Aspects of Materials and EnergyNovel Aerospace Material

A total of 362 patients received Paxlovid therapy, and 2797 patients received conventional therapy. After propensity score matching (PSM), 1086 patients were obtained. Results: The difference in platelet (PLT) count between the two groups was statistically significant but within the normal range (P < 0.05). CT value revealed that the nucleic acid test results became negative more quickly in the Paxlovid therapy group. Analysis of the Paxlovid therapy group showed that IgG and IgM levels were increased after Paxlovid therapy administration. Conclusion: The CT value of the Paxlovid therapy group became negative more quickly. This finding suggests that Paxlovid treatment after early diagnosis of the Omicron variant may achieve good therapeutic efficacy. Keywords: Paxlovid, Omicron variant, a retrospective study, N-C
Fictional Portrayals of Young People in Chinese and American Juvenile Delinquency Films: A Comparative Study
This study discusses the differences between Chinese youth film and American teen film through a perspective on cultural foundation. The author argue that Confucianism is an alternative that greatly affects the depiction of young characters and the causal relationship of morality and fate of the characters in Chinese films. In Confucian philosophy, ‘kingdoms’ (guo) and ‘family’ (jia) are equally considered inviolable. ‘Family’ occupies a central position in Confucian culture. Filial piety is a virtue of respect for one’s parents and ancestors. This study attempts to provide a picture of juvenile delinquency depicted in both contemporary Chinese and American youth films. This study argues that ‘juvenile delinquency’ indicates any failure in, or omission of, ‘family’ and ‘kingdoms’. The objective of such a comparison is not to advocate for either Chinese or American youth cinema in portraying juvenile delinquency, but to promote a better understanding of the strengths and impacts of youth cinema and youth culture. It is argued that the depictions of juvenile delinquency expose the social discontent of youths in Chinese youth films
