In Memoriam: Prof. Jingdong Zhang
Celebrating the electrochemistry legacy: Prof. Zhang was a member of the Editorial Board of ChemElectroChem as well as a valued author and reviewer. Together with her friends and colleagues Christian Engelbrekt, Xinxin Xiao and Jens Ulstrup (Technical University of Denmark) as well as Bingwei Mao (Xiamen University, China), we hope to commemorate Prof Zhang′s contributions to the electrochemical sciences by this Special ChemElectroChem Collection on the theme of “Electrochemical Materials and Interfaces”
A journey to be a bilingual teacher-researcher : conversation with Xinxin
This paper is based on an original conversation between the first author (hereafter referred to as Dr. Zhao) and the second author (hereafter referred to as Xinxin), which was later compiled and edited by Dr. Zhao. The conversation is about Xinxin's journey to be a bilingual teacher-researcher through the Research-Oriented School-Engaged Teacher Education (ROSETE) program, in which Dr Zhao works as a key designer with his colleague Professor Singh, together with their Ningbo and Western Sydney Counterparts
Superior anodic electro-fermentation by enhancing capacity for extracellular electron transfer
Anodic electro-fermentation (AEF), where an anode replaces the terminal electron acceptor, shows great promise. Recently a Lactococcus lactis strain blocked in NAD+ regeneration was demonstrated to use ferricyanide as an alternative electron acceptor to support fast growth, but the need for high concentrations of this non-regenerated electron acceptor limits practical applications. To address this, growth of this L. lactis strain, and an adaptively evolved (ALE) mutant with enhanced ferricyanide respiration capacity were investigated using an anode as electron acceptor in a bioelectrochemical system (BES) setup. Both strains grew well, however, the ALE mutant significantly faster. The ALE mutant almost exclusively generated 2,3-butanediol, whereas its parent strain mainly produced acetoin. The ALE mutant interacted efficiently with the anode, achieving a record high current density of 0.81 ± 0.05 mA/cm2. It is surprising that a Lactic Acid Bacterium, with fermentative metabolism, interacts so well with an anode, which demonstrates the potential of AEF

The bright and dark sides of helping and being helped at work for family functioning
Using the Work-Home Resources (W-HR) model as an overarching theoretical framework, we seek to examine how the interplay between employees’ enactment and receipt of interpersonal organizational citizenship behaviors (OCB-I) affects two important family outcomes (family performance and marital withdrawal behavior). We simultaneously test resource depletion (via exhaustion) and resource generation (via personal accomplishment) as mechanisms underlying the spillover of the interactive effects of OCB-I enactment and receipt to the family domain. Based on a three-wave, dual-source study of 320 employees, we found that OCB-I enactment is positively related to both exhaustion (only for those who themselves receive low OCB-Is from colleagues) and personal accomplishment at work (regardless of OCB-I receipt), which interfere with and enrich employees’ family lives, respectively. We discuss how these findings contribute to research on organizational citizenship behaviors and the W-HR literature, as well as their practical implications

Enzymatic Bioelectrocatalysis
Featuring a mild process and high selectivity, enzyme bioelectrocatalysis employing oxidoreductases immobilized on conductive surfaces is playing an increasingly vital role across a wide scope of applications. Enzyme bioelectrocatalysis is key for devices such as biosensors and biofuel cells, which are attracting considerable attention towards sustainable sensing and energy production. A wide range of sophisticated reactions, such as chiral compound synthesis and CO2 and N2 fixation, can be accomplished with enzyme bioelectrocatalysis. Last but not least, redox enzymes are sources of inspiration for new non-noble metal electrocatalysts. The “Enzymatic Bioelectrocatalysis” Special Issue comprises six reviews contributed by research groups from different countries, covering fundamentals and applications, as well as the recent research progress in this field
Work‐related helping and family functioning: A work–home resources perspective

Modeling Electromagnetic Radiation at High-Density PCB/connector Interfaces
Electromagnetic radiation for a commercial printed circuit board (PCB) connector is investigated in this paper. The simulation models of the connector are shown to be validated by comparing measured and simulated S-parameters. Analytical formulas are provided to calculate the total loss and the radiated power from a PCB/connector structure when material losses are known. The total power loss for the considered geometry is shown to be dominated by material loss rather than radiated power loss. Termination schemes and additional geometry details in the connector model are also studied for their effects on the radiated power
