Color preference of Chinese college students
Color block and color word were used, in two experiments, to investigate the color preference of Chinese College students. In experiment 1 participant’s preferences to color were examined by means of paired comparisons. In experiment 2, participants had to give an order to color based on their preference. The results showed that: 1, Blue, green and white were the more popular colors to Chinese College students at present. Blue is the most popular color in the three colors. 2, Color preference was influenced by the method of investigation and the representation form of color
Role of figures in cooperative problem solving
External representations play an important role in distance cooperation work. In this experiment, every two participants were paired based on their personalities (introversion or extraversion) and then cooperated to solve math questions in one of six different figure conditions. Communication contents, strategies and times during problem-solving process were recorded, and communication experiences were examined by a questionnaire at the end of the tasks. The results showed that distinct figures had disparate effects on cooperative problem-solving tasks. Different personality combinations had respective strategies and communication functions. The learning curve of cooperation could be gained

Category-specific effect on interpretation of conceptual combination
Conceptual combination involves accessing two or more concepts and forms a new concept. The present study justified the effects of categories and feature types of sub-concepts on interpretation of conceptual combination by using path analysis (χ2(3) = 6.64, p = .08, RMSEA = .087, CFI = .985, TLI = .951). The results showed living things had more entity features, and artifacts had more situation features. Living thing combinations got more property interpretations and artifact combinations got more relation interpretations, and the entity feature of the first sub-concept influenced property interpretation
The dissociation and interaction of ventral and dorsal visual systems in function
Perception-action theory of vision argues that the ventral and dorsal streams are distinct systems whose functions are, separately, representing the world and directing the action. Views on the relation between the two pathways fall into two classes: traditional views that deny such a perception-action division, and cooperative views that emphasize interaction between the two systems. This article summarizes the key issues, empirical evidences, and contributions of each theory/view, and analyzes the conditions that visual processing takes place in a certain system, then concludes that the incomplete function division between the two systems leads to variety in visual processing
Attention influences number processing: Evidence from number comparative task
In this study, we investigated how the number processing was influenced by the attention. Numbers in different magnitudes (1-4 and 6-9) and notations (Chinese and Arabic) were presented in attended condition (in the center) or unattended condition (3°¡ã left or right of the center). The task was comparing numbers with 5. Two major number processing effects, number distance effect and number notation effect, were tested. The results of our study showed that numbers of different magnitude had no processing difference in attended condition, but had significant processing difference in unattended condition. This indicated that attention influenced number processing differently according to number's magnitude
Effects of intrinsic and extrinsic cues on judgments of learning
Four experiments were conducted to examine the effects of the intrinsic cue (relatedness) and the extrinsic cues (presentation order and presentation time) on judgments of learning (JOLs) by using paired-associate learning. These cues were presented in three modes: between-participants, blocked-list, and mixed-list. The results showed that relatedness influenced JOLs no matter how it was presented. The time required to produce judgments was longer for unrelated items than for related items, which suggested that a mnemonic cue, namely ease of processing, might exert influence on JOLs. The effects of extrinsic cues were unstable in the present four experiments
The effects of direction of vertex in judging positions of vertex of holes
Researchers have reported that observers are faster at judging the position of convex vertices than concave ones (Perception 30 (2001) 1295), and a reversal of the relative speeds were found when the same contours were presented as holes instead of objects using a figural manipulation of figure/ground (Cognition 87 (2003) 33). 2 experiments with revised paradigm were conducted to further study the relationship between polarity and direction of vertex in judging positions of vertex of holes. Results showed that the direction of vertex affected participants' performances. Related issues on perception of shape of objects and holes were also discussed
Factors leading to misunderstanding in two media communication conditions
The purpose of this paper is to explore the misunderstanding in distance verbal communication. Twenty-four pairs performed a map task using audio-with-sound-delay for communication, and their psychological functions were measured. Half the pairs were in the condition with 20ms sound delay; half were in the condition with 1000ms sound delay. Their dialogues were analyzed. Four factors leading to misunderstanding were concluded. The results showed that: sound delay has significant influence on misunderstanding; psychological functions have significant influence on slip of tongue. Finally, a model chart of distance communicating procedure was presented, in which misunderstanding is distributed
The effect of individual difference on collaborative work in different media conditions
This paper presents the effects of individual difference on the performance of remotely located pairs of people's completing collaborative tasks in different media conditions. The results of two experiments were analyzed. A map task and a concept-learning task were used in two experiments, respectively. Two persons in a pair performed the map task or the concept-learning task using either audio-only or audio-plus-video for communication. The results indicated that people's psychological functions were critical to understanding the processes and structures of collaborative work
