    Towards the design of a new standard for composite stiffness identification

    This paper presents a step towards the design of a novel test for simultaneous identification of all the stiffness components of orthotropic composite materials. A simulator was adopted to numerically simulate the whole identification process. Synthetic images were generated and then processed by Digital Image Correlation (DIC) to calculate the strain fields. The Virtual Fields Method (VFM) was used to identify the material stiffness parameters and error functions were finally defined to evaluate the identification error. Two steps of optimization were applied to obtain the best design variables of different specimens and the optimal DIC processing parameters. Four types of test configuration were simulated including short off-axis tensile test, short off-axis open-hole tensile test, off-axis Brazilian disc and off-axis unnotched Iosipescu test and the most promising configuration was identified

    UJI TAK MERUSAK PELAT ELEMEN BAKAR U3Si2/All DENSITAS URANIUM 4,8 gU/cm3 MENGGUNAKAN RADIOGRAFI SINAR-X DIGITAL. Telah dilakukan uji tak merusak PEB U3Si2/Al densitas uranium 4,8 gU/cm3 pasca iradiasi dengan burn up 20, 40,dan 60 %. Pengujian meliputi pengamatan secara visual, analisis citra radiograf dan pengukuran dimensi menggunakan radiografi sinar-X digital. Uji tak merusak bertujuan untuk mengetahui unjuk kerja, integritas dan kehandalan PEB selama diiradiasi di RSG-GAS. Kehandalan dan kesalamatan bahan bakar selama di reaktor diindikasikan dengan tidak adanya anomali pada hasil pengujian pasca iradiasi. Elemen bakar uji (EBU) terdiridari tiga PEB U3Si2/Al densitas 4,8 gU/cm3 pasca iradiasi ditransfer dari RSG-GAS ke hotcell 101 IRM melalui kanal hubung Instalasi Penyimpanan Sementara Bahan Bakar Bekas (IPSB3). Selanjutnya EBU ditransfer ke hot cell 103 untuk dilakukan pengujian tak merusak menggunakan radiografi sinar-X digital dengan tujuh kali penembakan sehingga diperoleh hasil citra radiografi dengan resolusi yang baik. Citra radiografi yang dihasilkan dievaluasi lebih lanjut untuk mendapatkan data cacat dan dimensi PEB U3Si2/Al densitas 4,8 gU/cm3pasca iradiasi antara lain lebar meat, lebar PEB, jarak meat-cladding, jarak batas meat-cladding sisi kanan kiri pada sisi jauh (SJ) dan sisi dekat (SD). Hasil analisis menggunakan radiografi sinar-X menunjukkan adanya bercak putih pada cladding bagian tengah PEB U3Si2/Al densitas 4,8 gU/cm3dengan burn up 20%. Penyebab keberadaan bercak putih tersebut harus dibuktikan dengan menggunakan metode uji merusak salah satunya yaitu analisis metalografi. Sementara itu, PEB U3Si2/Al densitas 4,8 gU/cm3 dengan burn up 40 dan 60 % tidak ditemukan adanya indikasi cacat permukaan dan cacat lainnya. Data hasil pengukuran dimensi menunjukkan tidak terdapat kerusakan dan perubahan dimensi signifikan yang menunjukkan bahwa integritas bahan bakar tetap terjaga setelah PEB U3Si2/Al densitas 4,8 gU/cm3 diiradiasi di teras RSG-GAS.Kata kunci: PEB, U3Si2/Al, 4,8 gU/cm3, uji tak merusak, radiografi sinar-X

    A generalizable and interpretable deep learning model to improve the prediction accuracy of strain fields in grid composites

    Recently, the design of grid composites with superior mechanical properties has gained significant attention as a testbed for deep neural network (DNN)-based optimization methods. However, current designed DNN architectures are not specifically tailored for grid composites and thus show weak generalizability in exploring unseen configurations that stem away from the training datasets. Here, a multiscale kernel neural network (MNet) is proposed that can efficiently predict the strain field within a grid composite subject to an external loading. Predicting the strain field of a composite is especially important when it comes to understanding how the material will behave under loading. MNet enables accurate predictions of the strain field for completely new configurations in unseen domain, with a reduced mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) by 50% compared to a benchmark, U-Net as current state-of-the arts DNN architectures. In addition, results showed that MNet maintained superb performances with less than onethird of dataset, and can be applied to grid composites larger than the composite configurations used for the initial training. By investigating the inference mechanisms from the kernels of multiple sizes, our work revealed that the MNet can efficiently extract various spatial correlations from the material distribution.(c) 2022 The Authors.
