Using Burkholderia sp. as a biocontrol agent in kiwifruit plants against Neofusicoccum parvum
Actinidia chinensis (kiwifruit) is an important horticultural crop in New Zealand. A fungal pathogen, Neofusicoccum parvum (teleomorph Botryosphaeria), was found causing fruit drop symptoms in kiwifruit orchards. To target this issue, a potential bacterial biocontrol agent, Burkholderia sp. (isolate W4R11), was used to test its efficacy against N. parvum in planta.
Molecular approaches and in vitro testing were conducted prior to the glasshouse trial to provide insights on understanding the biology of N. parvum and Burkholderia sp. This work demonstrated the in vitro antagonist effect of Burkholderia sp. against N. parvum. Cultural practices on the two organisms were also conducted in the laboratory, providing inoculant material for the in planta testing.
This is the first study testing the use of Burkholderia sp. (isolate W4R11) as a wound protectant in one-year old kiwifruit plants against N. parvum. It demonstrated an apparent competition between the two organisms and provided suggestions on colonization and movement of Burkholderia sp. and N. parvum in kiwifruit plants. The Burkholderia strain can colonise 15 -30% of the plants, which had no substantial differences compared to N. parvum. When examining the stems further from the wound site, Burkholderia sp. showed suppression on N. parvum, resulting in a non-fungal colonization. The result suggested: (1) Burkholderia sp. may have a better colonization ability and faster movement than N. parvum in kiwifruit plants; (2) Burkholderia sp. can be used as a wound protectant after pruning or harvesting of the kiwifruit to inhibit wound-invading pathogens; and (3) to prune the kiwifruit stem 20 cm from the infected site and then applying the biocontrol agent may reduce disease incidence in planta.
Future studies should utilize more replicates and field testing to confirm the biocontrol ability of this particular strain.Zespri funde
A New Stream of Spiritual Literature: Bei Cun’s The Baptizing River
This essay traces the emergence of new categories of “spiritual writing” in Chinese literature, before offering an interpretation of Bei Cun’s 1992 novel The Baptizing River (Shixi de he 施洗的河) as an exemplar. Bei Cun’s first novel as a “Christian author” attracted much critical attention, given the contrast with the author’s prior works and its message of spiritual salvation at a time of political change and metaphysical searching. A psychosocial biography of its anti-hero Liu Lang, set in wartime China, the novel charts the protagonist’s criminal livelihood, descent into moral depravity, and gradual questioning of life and purpose. This essay foregrounds the structure of the novel and explores how narrative form and theological meaning interact. To do this, it traces the course of the river journeys that mark the different stages of Liu Lang’s life and which culminate in his unorthodox baptismal rebirth
克拉玛依市中部区域荒漠生态功能区划研究
On the basis of field investigation and data collection, ecological function principles, together with qualitative and quantitative methods are applied in this paper to analyze eco-environment situation and reveal space differentiation rules of eco-environment sensitivity and ecosystem services importance of Karamay City middle area. Consequently, combined with the developing characteristics of its own society and economy, according to the division principle, basis and methods, Karamay City middle area can be divided into 3 ecological function regions and 39 ecological function small regions. Meanwhile, according to the eco-environment characteristics, main eco-environment problems and ecological functions of each ecological function regions, key tasks and specific measures on ecological nursing and construction are put forward to provide a scientific basis for ecological construction planning in the middle area of Karamay. The main conclusions of this paper are listed as follows:(1) The eco-environment is fragile, and regional eco-environment question is outstanding in the middle area of Karamay. Lack of precipitation, water resources are deficient. The type of vegetation and ecosystem are single, the forest resources are increased, but the coverage is still low, and the vegetation is destroyed seriously. The soil erosion in the mountain area is significant, the trend of land desertification in the plain is obvious, and the soil salinization is serious. (2) From the spatial distribution characteristics of eco-environment sensitivity of Karamay middle area, highly sensitive and extremely sensitive are mainly distributed. Spatial differentiation is obvious, we should adjust measures to local conditionsa and make reasonable moderate development in development process. Eco-environment extremely sensitive regions are mainly distributed in the northern of Shixi Road, the southern of Industrial Park, Wu Ming Hu wetland, the middle area of West mountain. (3) From the spatial distribution characteristics of ecosystem service function of Karamay middle area, important and extremely important are mainly distributed. Space differentiation is obvious, we should focus on management development and construction in view of the dominant ecological function. Extremely important regions are mainly distributed in the north of Kuibei Railway, part of the region between Shixi road - Kuibei Railway, Wu Ming Hu wetland, Mahe old river of Xiaoguai-Zhongguai, southern part area of Industrial Park. (4) GIS technology through the spatial overlay is applied in this paper to divide Karamay middle area into 3 ecological function regions and 39 ecological function small regions. Eco-environment sensitivity, ecosystem services and the already existing problems and causes in each ecological function region are analyzed. The ecological construction measures and development directions of 39 ecological function regions are put forward at last

The Application of Uniform Design Table in Cement Solidification of Nuclear Waste Resin
As a lower cost raw material, few demand for equipments, convenient solidification process, cement solidification for radioactive waste is widely used for several decades. Formulations of solidification are complex and diverse, involving various types of substrate and additives. Traditional approach for formulation design is single-factor test whose representation is inadequate and workload is huge. Uniform design based on the theory of Quasi-Monte-Carlo takes advantage of limited and representative tests instead of the system. In the multi-factor formulation design, it can be very quick and convenient to find the formulations required by uniform design table and direct-vision method. This article introduced the application of uniform design table for formulation in cement solidification of nuclear waste resin.</jats:p
