Schottariella Mirifica P.C. Boyce & S. Y. Wong: A New Name for Schottarum Sarikeense (Araceae: Schismatoglottideae)

    No full text
The recent publication of the new genus Schottarum (Araceae) from Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo (Boyce and Wong 2008), contains a serious typification error by which Schottarum is a taxonomic synonym of Schismatoglottis and a new generic name is required for the taxon we described as Schottarum. The names Schottariella and Schottariella mirifica are here published

Studies on Schismatoglottideae (Araceae) of Borneo LVIII : Further novelties described for the genus Piptospatha, and a note on Piptospatha Sect. Gamogyne

Piptospatha bella S. Y. Wong & P. C. Boyce and Piptospatha lurida S. Y. Wong & P. C. Boyce are described and illustrated from Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo. Their recognition takes Piptospatha to 18 described species. Piptospatha lurida is most similar to P. burbidgei, a species formerly allotted its own genus, Gamogyne, later made into a section of Piptospatha. Notes on Gamogyne are provided and a correction to published information on the placentation of Gamogyne offered

Passivity check of S-Parameter descriptor systems via S-Parameter generalized hamiltonian methods

    No full text
This paper extends the generalized Hamiltonian method (GHM) (Zhang , 2009; Zhang and Wong, 2010) and its half-size variant (HGHM) (Zhang and Wong, 2010) to their S-parameter counterparts (called S-GHM and S-HGHM, respectively), for testing the passivity of S-parameter descriptor-form models widely used in high-speed circuit and electromagnetic simulations. The proposed methods are capable of accurately detecting the possible nonpassive regions of descriptor-form models with either scattering or hybrid (impedance or admittance) transfer matrices. Their effectiveness and accuracy are verified with several practical examples. The S-GHM and S-HGHM methods presented here provide a foundation for the passivity enforcement of SS- parameter descriptor systems. © 2006 IEEE.published_or_final_versio

Flowering Rhynchopyle loi most closely resembles R. pileata (S.Y.Wong & P.C.Boyce) S.Y.Wong & P.C.Boyce by the deep magenta-purple strongly rostrate spathe limb. However, R. loi is readily differentiated by the spathe basally with a prominent ventral mentum, by the larger, centrally impressed interstice staminodes held in a zone wider than the remainder of the spadix, the stamens irregularly arranged (not carried in two rows), and the proportion- ately longer staminate flower zone. The leaves of R. loi are only ca. half as long as those of R. pileata, and much narrower; the entire plant is seldom exceeding 15 cm (Boyce and Wong 2013b). Distribution and ecology. Endemic to Sabah. Growing on bare or moss-covered basalt waterfall rocks under perhumid lowland forest; between 200 and 300 m elevation. Typically inhabits the steep banks of muddy, meandering lowland streams and, less frequently, the floor of lowlying forest where it may be inundated in wet periods.Published as part of Wong, Sin Yeng & Joling, Jyloerica, 2021, Checklist of aroids (Alismatales, Araceae) from Sabah (Malaysian Borneo), pp. 931-974 in Check List 17 (3) on page 961, DOI: 10.15560/17.3.93
