Kolcu, Onur Buğra (Arel Author) --- Makale 69 yazarlıdır.A search for radiative decays of the P-wave spin singlet charmonium resonance hc is performed based on 4.48 × 108 ? events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Events of the reaction channels hc › ??' and ?? are observed with a statistical significance of 8.4? and 4.0?, respectively, for the first time. The branching fractions of hc › ??' and hc › ?? are measured to be B(hc › ??' ) = (1.52±0.27±0.29)×10-3 and B(hc › ??) = (4.7±1.5±1.4)×10-4 , respectively, where the first errors are statistical and the second are systematic uncertainties

Characterisation of hollow-core photonic bandgap fibres and other multimode fibres for optical communications

Progress in multimode fibre technology has opened diverse opportunities in science and technology, one of which is pushing data capacities beyond the fundamental limits of conventional single-mode fibre, so as to avert network gridlock precipitated by exponentially growing global traffic demands. Hollow-core photonic bandgap fibres (HC-PBGFs), where light propagates in air rather than glass, have been considered as a potential candidate for high-capacity telecommunications applications, while offering superior performance over solid-core fibres in terms of low loss, low latency, and ultralow nonlinearity. This thesis presents research conducted as part of the efforts of the EU FP7 project MODE-GAP to pioneer developments in HC-PBGF and related space-division multiplexing technologies. This work is involved with the characterisation of primarily HC-PBGFs and also solid-core multimode fibres, recently and respectively fabricated through the facilities of the Optoelectronics Research Centre and other project partners. A time-of-flight method is applied to make extensive measurements on these fibres to study their modal properties, including mode coupling and differential modal delay, in order to assess their capabilities for single-mode as well as mode-division multiplexed data transmission. In support of the fibre design process, this work has aided the full characterisation of the first ever fabricated 37-cell HC-PBGFs and enabled subsequent mode-division multiplexing trials at a record capacity of 73.7 Tbit/s. Characterisation of multi-kilometre record-length HC-PBGFs is also performed, and has supported the demonstration of these fibres in metro network environments. To further understand the modal processes and facilitate fibre improvement, a simulation environment is constructed based on a power coupling propagation model. This has enhanced interpretations of experimental time-of-flight data, as well as validated a proposed theory relating mode coupling and loss in HC-PBGFs.Finally, an experimental technique is introduced to inspect longitudinal defects in solid- and hollow-core fibres, by applying time-of-flight principles

Monoclonal antibody to VIP: production, characterization, immunoneutralizing activity, and usefulness in cytochemical staining

A very stable cell line has been generated that produces monoclonal antibody to VIP designated as CURE.V55. This hybridoma was produced by fusion of spleen cells from an immunized Robertsonian mouse containing the translocated 8.12 chromosome with FOX-NY myeloma cells that are APRT deficient. VIP monoclonal antibody producing cell line 55 was selected by limiting dilutions using thymocytes as feeder layers. Ascites fluid containing high concentration of VIP monoclonal antibody was produced from pristane-primed BALB/c mice. Ascites fluid contained approximately 20 mg/ml IgG and bound 50% of 2 fmol 125I-VIP at a final dilution of 1:50,000. Binding of this IgG1 antibody was inhibited by 50% at 5 nM concentration of either VIP 128 or VIP 7-28. Protein-A purified IgG of this antibody, used in a concentration of 30 mg/kg per rat (IV), completely reversed the inhibitory effect of gastric corpus contractions induced by intravenous injection of VIP (10 nmol/kg) in sodium pentothal-anesthetized rats. A control anti-keyhole limpet hemocyanin monoclonal antibody did not alter the stimulatory effect of VIP on gastric corpus contractions. Immunohistochemistry showed that this VIP monoclonal antibody stains neurons, and nerve fibers in human and rat gallbladder and the sphincter of Oddi as previously described with our polyclonal antiserum

Metabolic profiling and population screening of analgesic usage in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy-based large-scale epidemiologic studies

The application of a 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy-based screening method for determining the use of two widely available analgesics (acetaminophen and ibuprofen) in epidemiologic studies has been investigated. We used samples and data from the cross-sectional INTERMAP Study involving participants from Japan (n = 1145), China (n = 839), U.K. (n = 501), and the U.S. (n = 2195). An orthogonal projection to latent structures discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) algorithm with an incorporated Monte Carlo resampling function was applied to the NMR data set to determine which spectra contained analgesic metabolites. OPLS-DA preprocessing parameters (normalization, bin width, scaling, and input parameters) were assessed systematically to identify an optimal acetaminophen prediction model. Subsets of INTERMAP spectra were examined to verify and validate the presence/absence of acetaminophen/ibuprofen based on known chemical shift and coupling patterns. The optimized and validated acetaminophen model correctly predicted 98.2%, and the ibuprofen model correctly predicted 99.0% of the urine specimens containing these drug metabolites. The acetaminophen and ibuprofen models were subsequently used to predict the presence/absence of these drug metabolites for the remaining INTERMAP specimens. The acetaminophen model identified 415 out of 8436 spectra as containing acetaminophen metabolite signals while the ibuprofen model identified 245 out of 8604 spectra as containing ibuprofen metabolite signals from the global data set after excluding samples used to construct the prediction models. The NMR-based metabolic screening strategy provides a new objective approach for evaluation of self-reported medication data and is extendable to other aspects of population xenometabolome profiling
