    Bad(s,t) is hyperplane absolute winning

    No full text
    J. An (2013) proved that for any s,t0s,t \geq 0 such that s+t=1s + t = 1, Bad(s,t)\mathbf{Bad}(s,t) is (342)1(34\sqrt 2)^{-1}-winning for Schmidt's game. We show that using the main lemma from An's paper one can derive a stronger result, namely that Bad(s,t)\mathbf{Bad}(s,t) is hyperplane absolute winning in the sense of Broderick, Fishman, Kleinbock, Reich, and Weiss (2012). As a consequence one can deduce the full dimension of Bad(s,t)\mathbf{Bad}(s,t) intersected with certain fractals

The discriminating factors of winning and losing in elite wheelchair tennis

    No full text
Technology is being used more and more to aid elite athletes in improving their performance. Recently there have been promising developments in the research using IMUs regarding wheelchair rugby and basketball. Applying this same measurement setup to wheelchair tennis could give better insight in the wheelchair mobility of wheelchair tennis athletes. This knowledge could aid the athletes in causing less sport related injuries, altering the focus of their training or even training entirely new aspects of the sport. This is why this research will be answering the research question: “What is/are the most influential factor(s) regarding the mobility of wheelchair tennis athletes to discriminate between the winning and losing player?”. We define the wheelchair mobility performance as all the measurable parameters related to the movements of the athlete. These mainly consist of the velocities and accelerations reached by the athletes. The measurements resulted in three different ways to output variables. Match statistics, these include information about the distance travelled, turns made and points played during the match. This was chosen to give general insight into the match. The wheelchair mobility performance (WMP), shows information about the velocities and accelerations during the match. This was chosen to compare the velocities and accelerations of athletes, they are plotted against the average value of the entire database of all measurements, this will be a standardized baseline to compare the results to. Lastly the speed zone plots, the plots give an indication of how long the athlete has been driving within a certain velocity range. To give better insight in the dynamic of the match all outputs also includes the constraints of winning/losing and serving/receiving. It is therefore possible to compare the differences between won and lost points and served and received points. There was also experimented with the possibility of making a plot that shows the location of the athlete on the field as a heatmap. However, because the IMUs only record accelerations the cumulative error to distance had to be manually adjusted for, therefore this was only done for one match as a pilot case. The match statistics, WMP plots and speed zone plots showed no significant differences between winning and losing points. Therefore, this study found that the mobility performance has no deciding effect on the outcome of a tennis match. The technique used to hit the ball and place it on the right spot in the field will probably be the determining factor here. This said, the mobility does however have to be above a certain threshold for the player to compete at a certain level of play, so neglecting it completely is not recommended, however the focus should be on the technique that involves hitting the ball. The heatmap case shows that the winning player plays more aggressive, but whether he is playing aggressive because he is winning or winning because he is playing aggressive cannot be concluded by this research.Mechanical Engineerin

In the three parts of the diploma paper "Winning strategies in the take-away games" theory of mathematical games is discussed as well as a number of take-away problems and their winning strategies are inspected. An insight into the theory of mathematical games, covering a sum of games, a winning strategy and NIM games is provided in the first part. The basics of the take-away games are discussed in the second part, introducing heap-games, take-away games, Mark-t games as well as a new concept introduced by author - division games. In the third part a problem from the competition Baltic Way 2011 is analysed with slightly altered starting conditions. Besides a number of take-away problems with solutions are provided suitable for use at school either in lessons or extra-curriculum activities. Keywords: mathematical games, take-away games, NIM, objective games, winning strategy, Mark-t games, Sprague - Grundy value

EA2: the winning strategy for the inaugural Lemonade Stand Game Tournament

    No full text
We describe the winning strategy of the inaugural Lemonade Stand Game (LSG) Tournament. The LSG is a repeated symmetric 3–player constant–sum finite horizon game, in which a player chooses a location for their lemonade stand on an island with the aim of being as far as possible from its opponents. To receive a high utility in this game, our strategy, EA2 , attempts to find a suitable partner with which to coordinate and exploit the third player. To do this, we classify the behaviour of our opponents using the history of joint interactions in order to identify the best player to coordinate with and how this coordination should be established. This approach is designed to be adaptive to various types of opponents such that coordination is almost always achieved, which yields consistently high utilities to our agent, as evidenced by the Tournament results and our subsequent experimental analysis. Our strategy models behaviours of its opponents, rather than situations of the game (e.g. game theoretic equilibrium or off equilibrium paths), which makes EA2 easy to generalize to many other games
