No full textIn 1937, the Metropolitan of Krakow Prince Bishop Adam Stefan Sapieha (1867-1951) celebrated the silver jubilee of the bishopric (1912-1937). One form of celebrating the jubilee was the publication: „Twenty-five years of Shepherding by Metropolitan Prince Adam Stefan Sapieha”, which was published that year in Krakow. The book consisted of several memoirs and accounts by friends and associates. Subsequent textsap peared after his death in 1951. In 1967, on the 100th anniversary of his birth, a questionnaire addressed to tho sewho knew the Cardinal A. Sapieha was sent out from Fr. Cardinal Karol Wojtyla's Department of Pastoral Metropolitan Curia in Krakow. The accounts were collected in six volumes and deposited in the archive. The Rev. Prof. Jerzy Wolny published some of the accounts in a companion volume to the „Book of Sapieżyńska” in Cracow in 1986.
The inspiration to write this text was the publication of the book „We and Our Habitats”, which was published by Literary Publishing Company in Kraków in 2008. These are the diaries and letters of Princess Matilda of Windisch-Graetzów Sapieżyny. Shecame from anout standing Austrian family. She was the daughter of Louis Joseph zu Windisch-Graetz, a cavalry general and Inspector General of the Austrian army. She was born in Prague in 1873, she married Paweł Sapiehę in Lvov 1893, and died in Krakow in 1968. As Prince Paul Sapieha's wife she became the sister-in-law of Cardinal Adam Sapieha. In his memoirs, repeatedly refers to her husband's brother, first calling him „our bishop”, then „our archbishop”, and finally „our cardinal”. This is a valid account of one of Cardinal Sapieha immediate family member's. The author put together fragments of memories about Cardinal Sapieha from the memories of Matilda Windisch-Graetzów. This is how the text came into existence, which supplements our knowledge about the Cardinal. The occasion for the announcement of the publicationis the 150 Anniversary of the birth of „The Constant Prince” in 2017.W 1937 r. metropolita krakowski książę biskup Adam Stefan Sapieha (1867-1951) obchodził srebrny jubileusz biskupstwa (1912-1937). Jedną form uczczenia jubilata była publikacja pt. „Dwadzieścia pięć lat pasterzowania Księcia Metropolity Adama Stefana Sapiehy”, która ukazała się tego roku w Krakowie. Książka składa się z kilku wspomnień i relacji przyjaciół i współpracowników. Kolejne teksty pojawiły się po jego śmierci w 1951 r. W roku 1967 na 100-lecie jego urodzin z inicjatywy ks. kard. Karola Wojtyły Wydział Duszpasterski Kurii Metropolitalnej w Krakowie rozpisał ankietę skierowaną do tych, którzy znali kard. A. Sapiehę. Wspomnienia zebrano w sześciu tomach i zdeponowano w archiwum. Ks. prof. Jerzy Wolny w drugim tomie „Księgi Sapieżyńskiej” wydanej w Krakowie w 1986 r. część z nich ogłosił drukiem.
Inspiracją do napisania tego tekstu była publikacja książki „My i nasze Siedliska”, która ukazała się w 2008 r. w Wydawnictwie Literackim w Krakowie. Są to dzienniki i listy księżnej Matyldy z Windisch-Graetzów Sapieżyny. Pochodziła ze znakomitej rodziny austriackiej. Była córką Ludwika Józefa zu Windisch-Graetz, generała kawalerii i generalnego inspektora armii austriackiej. Urodziła się w Pradze w 1873 r., za Pawła Sapiehę wyszła we Lwowie 1893 r., a zmarła w Krakowie w 1968 r. Jako żona księcia Pawła Sapiehy stała się bratową kard. Adama Sapiehy. We wspomnieniach wielokrotnie odnosi się do brata męża najpierw nazywając go „nasz biskup”, potem „nasz arcybiskup”, a w końcu „nasz kardynał”. To ważne świadectwo członka najbliższej rodziny kard. Sapiehy. Autor zestawił fragmenty wspomnień o kard. Sapieże zapisane we wspomnieniach Matyldy z Windisch-Graetzów. Tak powstał tekst, który jak sądzę uzupełnia naszą wiedzę o Kardynale. Okazją do jego publikacji jest zapowiedź uroczystości uczczenia 150-lecia urodzin „Księcia Niezłomnego” w roku 2017

No full textThis study investigated the variation in amino acid (AA) digestibility and MEn of 18 samples of solvent-extracted soybean meal (SBM; 6 European, 7 Brazilian, 2 Argentinian, 2 North American, 1 Indian) in cecectomized laying hens. The experimental diets contained either 300 g/kg of cornstarch or one of the SBM samples. Pelleted diets were fed to 10 hens in two 5 × 10 row-column designs so that 5 replicates were obtained from each diet during 5 periods. A regression approach and the difference method were used to determine AA digestibility and MEn, respectively. The variation in the digestibility of SBM differed among AA with ranges in digestibility of 6 to 12%-units for most AA. Among the first-limiting AA, the digestibility was 87 to 93%, 63 to 86%, 85 to 92%, 79 to 89%, and 84 to 95% for Met, Cys, Lys, Thr, and Val, respectively. The range of MEn for the SBM samples was 7.5 to 10.5 MJ/kg DM. Indicators of SBM quality (including trypsin inhibitor activity, KOH solubility, urease activity, and in vitro N solubility) and analyzed SBM constituents were significantly correlated (P ≤ 0.05) with AA digestibility or MEn only in a few cases. No differences were observed in AA digestibility and MEn between countries of origins, except low digestibility of some AA and MEn for the 2 Argentinian SBM samples. These results suggest that the precision of feed formulation benefits from considering the variations in AA digestibility and MEn. Often used indicators for SBM quality and analyzed constituents were not suitable to explain variations in AA digestibility and MEn, suggesting that AA digestibility and MEn are determined by other factors

No full textThe author shares his reflections on state of art in housing and urban planning, deficiencies, expectations and possibilities in the Sahel region of Africa. He notices, that the housing problem in Africa is one of the challenges, which should be solved in order to recover life dignity of African people and secure their rights to traditional family life in acceptable conditions. The paper describes the studies on the typical dispersed urban structures and the need to foster this type of settlement structure and proposals of introduction of new on light steel frame housing system in the area of Sahel, combining the traditional way of building houses with modern technology. The particularly analysed case, is the housing problem in the Republic of Chad. The author presents the basic discussion on this topic and his architectural proposals. Unfortunately, the gap between the needs and the financial feasibility of housing construction in this area, makes this project already at the starting point extremely difficult to be realized without external subventions.Problem mieszkaniowy w Afryce jest jednym z wyzwań, które należy rozwiązać, aby Afrykanie mogli odzyskać godność życiową i zabezpieczyć swoje prawa do tradycyjnego życia rodzinnego w akceptowalnych warunkach. W artykule opisano badania nad typowymi rozproszonymi strukturami miejskimi i potrzebą wspierania tego typu struktur osadniczych oraz propozycji wprowadzenia nowego systemu konstrukcji domów, opartym na lekkim szkielecie stalowym, łączącym tradycyjny sposób budowania domów z nowoczesną technologią. Przypadkiem szczególnie analizowanym jest problem mieszkaniowy w Republice Czadu. Autor przedstawia podstawową dyskusję na ten temat i swoje propozycje architektoniczne. Niestety luka między potrzebami mieszkaniowymi w Czadzie a finansową wykonalnością budownictwa mieszkaniowego w tym obszarze sprawia, że projekt ten, już w punkcie wyjścia, jest niezwykle trudny do realizacji bez uzyskania zewnętrznych dotacji
Long-term volume-targeted pressure-controlled ventilation: Sense or nonsense?
No full textThe technology underlying the development of novel ventilatory modes for long-term noninvasive ventilation of patients with chronic hypercapnia is continuously evolving. Volume-targeted pressure-controlled ventilation is a hybrid ventilation mode designed to combine the advantages of conventional ventilation modes, while avoiding their drawbacks. However, manufacturers have created different names and have patented algorithms and set-up variables, which can result in confusion for physicians and respiratory therapists. In addition, clear evidence for the superiority of this novel mode has not yet been established. These factors have most likely hindered more widespread use of this mode in clinical practice. The current review presents the rationale, working principles, characteristics and set-up recommendations associated with volume-targeted modes. In addition, it summarises the clinical and laboratory studies that have challenged this mode
