Harrison was the ninth President of the United States. He was born in Charles County, Virginia, on February 9, 1773, son of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. After a successful military career in the War of 1812, Harrison made his home at North Bend just west of Cincinnati. Construction of the 60-foot obelisk visible in the background began in 1924.
