Frid : Från rädsla i doldhet

Some notes on the Christian medieval heritage of the Gezira (central Sudan)
The kingdom of Alwa, located in what is now Sudan, was a Nubian state on the southern outskirts of medieval Christendom. Despite its existence for almost a millennium, virtually nothing is known about its history, culture and administration. Focusing on the Gezira between the White and Blue Nile and the eastern shores of the latter, this article considers archaeology, medieval geographers and especially accounts from the 18th through the early 20th centuries to discuss towns and churches, Christianity and the impact of Alwa’s legendary capital Soba on the memory of the Sudanese people. The author hopes to provide a useful introduction, inspiring further research on this enigmatic kingdom
Screening Criteria for the Indonesian Sharia Stock Index: An Analysis Based on Monzer Kahf’s Paradigm
Introduction: The topic in this journal is related to the Indonesian government's policy in providing categorization of Sharia stock indices which have criteria for debt levels below 45% compared to total assets. It has a big difference compared to the major stock exchanges in the UK, USA, Malaysia, Qatar and Pakistan which have a debt ownership limit of 30%-33%. Research Methods: This study uses a qualitative approach method, this study focuses on hypothesis testing. Experimental research is used in a quantitative method because the financial ratio data obtained from IDX will be controlled and manipulated by the author so as to obtain the effectiveness of one of the variables. Results: There is a difference of 21% of the number of Sharia shares in Indonesia when using the rule of debt ownership of a maximum of 30% of assets. Conclusion: Hopefully, this research can give an overview of the IDX that Indonesia is still permissive so that if it is enforced, it can provide peace of mind for Muslim investors in Indonesia
Improving retrospective life course data by combining modularized self-reports and event history calendars: experiences from a large scale survey
retrospektiver autobiografischer Lebensverlaufsdaten erwiesen.
sind, was deren Einsetzbarkeit in Bevölkerungsumfragen einschränkt.
[Autorenreferat]"Event history calendars (EHC) have proven to be a useful tool to collect retrospective
autobiographic life course data. One problem is that they are only standardized
to some extent. This limits their applicability in large-scale surveys. However, in
such surveys a modularized retrospective CATI design can be combined with EHC.
This data revision module is directly integrated into the interview and used as a data
revision module. Hereby insights from cognitive psychology are applied. The data
revision module stimulates the respondent’s memory retrieval by detecting both
temporal inconsistencies, such as gaps, and overlapping or parallel events. This
approach was implemented in the IAB-ALWA study (Work and Learning in a Changing
World), a large-scale representative telephone survey with 10,000 respondents.
By comparing the uncorrected data with the final data after revision, we investigate
to what extent the application of this data revision module improves data quality or
more precisely, time consistency and dating accuracy of individual reports." [author´s abstract
Do changing institutional settings matter? : educational attainment and family related employment interruptions in Germany
"Cross-sectional studies show that in West Germany women with different levels of educational attainment participate differently in the labor market. In this paper, I examine one potential underlying mechanism: the re-entry of mothers in the labor market after a period of inactivity. I argue that besides societal changes the reforms of parental leave legislation could be responsible for the educational divide in mothers' employment. Hypotheses are derived from human capital theory and labor supply theory assuming a rational behavior of women. Using retrospective life-course data from the IAB study ALWA, I find evidence that women with different levels of educational attainment have different re-entry patterns also when taking the educational attainment of the partner into account. Furthermore, parental leave schemes play a crucial role for re-entries. Some evidence of an educational polarization of re-entry behavior is found after the year 2000." Control of TGFβ signalling by ubiquitination independent function of E3 ubiquitin ligase TRIP12
International audienceTransforming growth factor β (TGFβ) pathway is a master regulator of cell proliferation, differentiation, and death. Deregulation of TGFβ signalling is well established in several human diseases including autoimmune disorders and cancer. Thus, understanding molecular pathways governing TGFβ signalling may help better understand the underlying causes of some of those conditions. Here, we show that a HECT domain E3 ubiquitin ligase TRIP12 controls TGFβ signalling in multiple models. Interestingly, TRIP12 control of TGFβ signalling is completely independent of its E3 ubiquitin ligase activity. Instead, TRIP12 recruits SMURF2 to SMAD4, which is most likely responsible for inhibitory monoubiquitination of SMAD4, since SMAD4 monoubiquitination and its interaction with SMURF2 were dramatically downregulated in TRIP12-/- cells. Additionally, genetic inhibition of TRIP12 in human and murine cells leads to robust activation of TGFβ signalling which was rescued by re-introducing wildtype TRIP12 or a catalytically inactive C1959A mutant. Importantly, TRIP12 control of TGFβ signalling is evolutionary conserved. Indeed, genetic inhibition of Drosophila TRIP12 orthologue, ctrip, in gut leads to a reduced number of intestinal stem cells which was compensated by the increase in differentiated enteroendocrine cells. These effects were completely normalised in Drosophila strain where ctrip was co-inhibited together with Drosophila SMAD4 orthologue, Medea. Similarly, in murine 3D intestinal organoids, CRISPR/Cas9 mediated genetic targeting of Trip12 enhances TGFβ mediated proliferation arrest and cell death. Finally, CRISPR/Cas9 mediated genetic targeting of TRIP12 in MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells enhances the TGFβ induced migratory capacity of these cells which was rescued to the wildtype level by re-introducing wildtype TRIP12. Our work establishes TRIP12 as an evolutionary conserved modulator of TGFβ signalling in health and disease. © 2023. The Author(s)

In other words, these pastors were the first composers to write the Sepedi language in the form of music; because they did not know the rules that control the Sepedi meter, the writers started to compose their hymns in the way that the German hymns were patterned. Therefore, one might argue that the main source of modern influence in Sepedi literature lies in the workings of the very first hymns of the said church. Nevertheless, the importance of the development of poetry in the form of hymns in the Sepedi literature has not been followed up and emphasised by reviewers. The aim of this article is to survey thoroughly the style of writing hymns, by discussing Rev Serotes hymn number 147, entitled A re thabeng re rete (Difela ta kereke 2010:130).The scrutiny will examine the way in which style depicts irony in the very hymn. In other words, the investigation considers especially the characteristics of style that indicate and develop irony in the work. It will be shown that the irony becomes clear during the service of Baptism which is expressed by way of emotions to develop the authors aim, as this sacrament is something that Christians respect (it goes hand in hand with the forgiveness of their sins).</p
