    Members of the Love family were prominent land holders in western North Carolina. Thomas Love (1765-1844), was a politician and land speculator whose holdings exceeded 6,000 acres of land, some of which would be purchased for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. His older brother, Robert Love (1760-1845) was a Revolutionary War veteran, surveyor, businessman and considered to be the founder of Waynesville.
