Searching for a college that felt more like a family, softball player Christa Fullwood (’10) contacted Coach Tom Cole at Gardner-Webb University. Trio of Art Events Debut at Gardner-Webb in February
Artistic work will abound at Gardner-Webb University during the month of February as three separate exhibits open on the campus. Shows include work by GWU art students, a university professor and a resident of nearby Mooresboro, N.C. Actor Will Portray C.S. Lewis as Part of Gardner-Webb Distinguished Artist Series
An off-Broadway actor will give two faith-based performances at Gardner-Webb University on Monday, Feb. 27, and Tuesday, Feb. 28. Tom Key, artistic director of Theatrical Outfit in Atlanta, will speak at Dimensions and also give a performance as part of the University’s Distinguished Artist Series. Key will present his portrayal of author C.S. Lewis Monday at 8 p.m. in the Millennium Playhouse, located behind the Communications Studies Hall on Main Street in Boiling Springs. “We invited him because he is a Christian artist who can do a faith-themed live performance and also do masterclasses in performance with our students,” shared Dr. Christopher Nelson, assistant professor of theatre and department chair.https://digitalcommons.gardner-webb.edu/gardner-webb-newscenter-archive/1682/thumbnail.jp

Gardner-Webb, The Magazine, previously titled The Webb Magazine, focuses on alumni news and campus events from Gardner-Webb College; now Gardner-Webb University. This issue includes several articles about awards and accolades given to students, staff, and Gardner-Webb programs. There is a short article announcing the addition of the Education Hall of Fame. Gardner-Webb\u27s online degrees and classes are praised. Many students are highlighted for their outreach in local and international communities, and several alumni are mentioned for their achievements and contributions to the school and community. Dr. Tom Meaders, a professor at Gardner-Webb is interviewed about his involvement in the Apollo 13 rescue mission. There is a section in the magazine dedicated to honoring those who have passed that impacted Gardner-Webb, and this issue honors several people including Mike Roebuck, Jim Wiles, Hoyt Bailey,Charles Tichenor, and John Brock. This issue won the Collegiate Advertising Awards (CAA) program Gold Award in the category of single magazine publication, an achievement reached by only three other universities in the nation. This marks the second consecutive year Gardner-Webb has won this award for creativity, layout and design, functionality, message effectiveness, production quality, and overall appeal. GWU earned the highest marks for single magazine publication among institutions with 2,000 to 5,000 students. This issue was the Hermes Creative Awards Platinum Winner for print publications: magazine category. Yet, it remains one of the most controversial and politically-charged topics in both the nation and world. Dr. Tom Jones, Gardner-Webb University Professor of Biology and Associate Dean of the Honors Program, understands why there might be confusion about the issues of climate change and global warming.
