Multi-perspective thematic analysis of staff and people on probation experience in Intensive Intervention and Risk Management Service (IIRMS)
This data was generated as part of the production of DPsych Thesis, entitled “The Role of Staff Training in Shaping Attitudes: A Meta-Analysis and Experiences within the Intensive Intervention and Risk Management Service (IIRMS)”.
The objectives and methods of data collection are outlined below.
Objectives: To explore the experiences of staff and people on probation within Intensive Intervention and Risk Management Services (IIRMS).
Method: A multi-perspective design was employed to capture the experiences of both staff and people on probation within IIRMS through semi-structured interviews. A reflexive thematic analysis methodology was used to analyse the results and produce themes.
This record will outline all the data that is within the NTU Data Archive. It shares the folder and individual file name alongside information that can be found in each folder and files.
Prior to the interviews being conducted there were a number of participant facing information that was shared, this is saved in a folder titled ‘participant facing material’ this includes:
•The Demographic Sheet for people on probation is saved under the file ‘Demographic Sheet PoP’.
•The Demographic Sheet for staff is saved under the file ‘Demographic Sheet Staff’.
•The information sheet for staff is saved as ‘Information Sheet for Participation in Research Staff’.
•The information sheet for staff is saved as ‘Information Sheet for Participation in Research PoP’.
•The letter which was sent out to interested participants is saved as ‘letter to invited participants’.
•The consent form for staff is saved as ‘Participant Consent Form staff’.
•The consent form for people on probation is saved as ‘Participant Consent Form PoP’.
Semi-structured interviews were conducted with both participant groups. Within the folder ‘interview documents’, the schedule can be found saved under the title ‘semi-structured interview schedule V2’. This includes the questions asked to staff and people on probation.
The Interviews were audio-recorded via encrypted Dictaphone or Microsoft Teams, with transcription completed within two weeks, assuring anonymity of records from this point onwards. The average interview length was 50 minutes. Transcripts were fully anonymised by removing identifiers, and participants were assigned pseudonyms.
Within the ‘multi-perspective thematic analysis’ folder there are:
•The transcriptions which are saved in a folder titled ‘transcription complete’. As a multi-perspective thematic analysis was conducted. Within this file there are two separate folders ‘coded once’ and ‘coded twice’. Within these folders there are ‘staff’ and ‘PoP’ folders which contain all full transcripts from participants separated by the participant group as well as the coding process; once and twice.
•Following this for the staff and people on probation group separately, an Excel sheet was made which included the codes, a summary code and then clusters these are saved under the files titled ‘PoP’s Codes, Summary Code and Clusters’ and ‘Staff Codes, Summary Code and Clusters’.
•The themes were then generated and an Excel spreadsheet was created with two separate tabs for staff and people on probation. The sheets include the super-ordinate, sub-ordinate, clusters and the cluster identifier in transcript (summary code). This is saved in a file titled ‘TA themes’.
•To gather the data from the transcript a file was created that outlined the subthemes and super-ordinate themes alongside each participant and the quotes from the transcripts that were applicable to each subtheme. This file is titled ‘themes and quotes’
