In-situ development of carbon nanotubes network and graphitic carbon by catalytic modification of phenolic resin binder in Al2O3–MgO–C refractories
In-situ formation of cross-linked carbon nanotubes network reinforced the refractory matrix and helps to improve the mechanical properties at elevated temperature. In this paper, the effect of modified phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resin binder on the various mechanical properties of alumina–magnesia–carbon (AMC) refractories was investigated. Initially, PF resin was modified by adding a different proportion of nickel catalyst. The AMC specimens (with the 7% carbon) were prepared by using 5% of modified PF resin. The pressed samples were cured at 180 °C for 24 h and characterized by XRD, Raman spectroscopy, and FE-SEM. The characterisation shows that, in-situ formation of graphitic carbon and carbon nanotubes network in the specimens due to modification of PF resin. In-situ formation of phases leads to enhancement of density and mechanical properties of refractory at elevated temperature due to the reinforcing effect
Odnos do staranja in starosti Dame v modrem Noélle Châtelet in Intimno Gabriele Babnik
V diplomski nalogi sem obravnavala odnos do staranja in starosti v romanih Dama v modrem Noëlle Châtelet in Intimno Gabriele Babnik. This Bachelor\u27s Thesis discusses the attitude towards ageing and old age in two novels, namely The Lady in Blue by Noëlle Châtelet and Intimacy by Gabriela Babnik. Although Intimacy seemingly deals with the problem of racism, much more complex issues are at play in the background which shed light on the intimate world of the heroes. It is obvious that Babnik deals with the subject of ageing and old age which is most apparent in Tibor who is transitioning from middle age to old age but clings to youth through his young lover Amina. Tibor\u27s fear of ageing stems mainly from his fear of death which he develops upon the loss of his daughter Izabela. In contrast to Tibor, Châtelet\u27s heroine Solange tries to escape her life by seeking refuge in old age. The novel is an ode to ageing and old age, and is neither an ironic nor illusory depiction of the subject matter, but rather a sincere and masterful confession. For a more comprehensive overview of the subject of ageing and old age, the Bachelor\u27s Thesis will take into consideration the ideas of Greek philosophers and other works of literature which address the subject matter. In so doing, it will draw on Helen Small\u27s monograph The Long Life. Also of interest will be the ideas developed in two other works, namely The Methuselah Conspiracy by Frank Schirrmacher, a German publisher and editor, and Being Mortal by Atul Gawande, a distinguished American surgeon and author

Convexity of quotients of theta functions
AbstractFor fixed u and v such that 0⩽u<v<1/2, the monotonicity of the quotients of Jacobi theta functions, namely, θj(u|iπt)/θj(v|iπt), j=1,2,3,4, on 0<t<∞ has been established in the previous works of A.Yu. Solynin, K. Schiefermayr, and Solynin and the first author. In the present paper, we show that the quotients θ2(u|iπt)/θ2(v|iπt) and θ3(u|iπt)/θ3(v|iπt) are convex on 0<t<∞
Low temperature synthesis of pure anatase carbon doped titanium dioxide: An efficient visible light active photocatalyst
Low temperature pure anatase Carbon Doped Titanium Dioxide (C-TiO2) is successfully synthesized by using
starch as an effective, economical, and nonhazardous carbon source. The synthesized C-TiO2 has been further
characterized by X-Ray Diffraction, SEM, TEM, BET, XPS and UV- DRS techniques, which reveal that the
particles are crystalline with spherical morphology, high surface area and an optical band gap of 2.79 eV for CTiO2
calcined at 400 °C. Furthermore photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B dye was carried out using asprepared
C-TiO2 under visible light irradiation. Prepared C-TiO2 calcined at 200 °C and 400 °C show higher
degradation efficiency (85% and 100% in 120 min respectively) as compared to that of undoped TiO2 and
commercial Degussa P-25. Result shows that the C-TiO2 containing lower carbon percentage has higher
photocatalytic activity. Thus enhanced photocatalytic activity of C-TiO2, may be due to synergic effect of carbon doping and [101] facet enhanced synthesis of anatase C-TiO2
International Court of Justice and Provisional Measures under the Genocide Convention: Curious Case of Ukraine v. Russian Federation
The ongoing Russian aggression on Ukraine has prompted Ukrainian President Zelensky to seek the assistance of States and international institutions. One such institution that Ukraine approached is the International Court of Justice (ICJ), requesting provisional measures. Ukraine contends that the Russian Federation has falsely claimed that acts of Genocide have occurred in the Luhansk and Donetsk oblast in Eastern Ukraine. In this article, the author details the provisional measures rendered by the ICJ; in doing so, it is contended that the interpretation of the ICJ vis-à-vis the Genocide Convention is flexible and broad, a stark contrast to its previous cases
