A Triangular Periodic Table of Elementary Circuit Elements
Chua proposed an Elementary Circuit Element
Quadrangle including the three classic elements (resistor, inductor,
and capacitor) and his formulated, named memristor as
the fourth element. Based on an observation that this quadrangle
may not be symmetric, I proposed an Elementary Circuit Element
Triangle, in which memristor as well as mem-capacitor and mem-inductor lead three basic element classes, respectively. An intrinsic mathematical relationship is found to support this new classification. It is believed that this triangle is concise, mathematically
sound and aesthetically beautiful, compared with Chua’s quadrangle. The importance of finding a correct circuit element table is similar to that of Mendeleev’s periodic table of chemical elements in chemistry and the table of 61 elementary particles in physics, in terms of categorizing the existing elements and predicting new elements. A correct circuit element table would also request to rewrite the 20th century textbooks
Wang Shuo and the commercialisation of contemporary Chinese culture
This thesis examines the commercialisation of Chinese culture that has taken place over the past twenty years in mainland China. It explores the contribution of Wang Shuo, a cultural figure who straddles different fields of culture, moving from literature to the ultimate mass culture medium of television, this study plots Wang Shuo' s development from educational failure, to business failure, to fiction writer, film & TV editor, film director and cultural critic and analyst. His stories, films, TV series and articles have caused shock-waves throughout national cultural circles as he has transformed the terms of the debate from academic discourse to a validation of the role of the market in the culture field. Although Wang Shuo has not been labelled as a dissident, his approach to the culture market has had a more subversive effect on official ideology that those overt dissidents who have had to live in exile or have been imprisoned. He has utilised the language of official ideology to satirise the authorities, turning the ideology and its supporters into figures of fun. Yet his own goals have been strictly personal and economic ones. The authorities recognize the value of Wang Shuo's work in the cultural market but at the same time distrust his works and place him under strict censorship. Examining the way Wang Shuo and people surround him have succeeded in different fields of cultural achievement is a mirror to understanding the process of the transformation of contemporary Chinese culture from a socialist state-controlled culture to a market-oriented mass culture industry

The influence and forecast of three industries and energy structure on regional carbon emission
Carbon emission reduction is an important part of regional low-carbon economic development. In this paper, gray correlation analysis, neural network model, Gaussian multi-mode fitting and other methods were used to analyze the relationship between total carbon emissions and regional economic development, industrial structure, and energy consumption in Henan Province. On this basis, the future development of carbon emissions is predicted. The calculation results showed that the correlation between the three industries and carbon emissions in Henan Province is more than.7, among which the secondary industry has the highest correlation (.77). In the secondary industry, the correlation coefficient between coal and carbon emissions is the highest.87, while the correlation coefficient between other energy sources is about.5. In the neural network prediction model, the correlation coefficient between the prediction curve and the actual total carbon emission curve is.989, and the prediction results have a good degree of fit. The carbon emission prediction curve was divided into two parts: a linear decline stage from 2018 to 2024, and a rapid decline stage after 2024.The results showed that more efforts should be made in industrial structure, energy consumption structure and environmental protection to achieve low-carbon development in Henan province
Turbulent structures in unsteady wall-bounded flow subject to temporal acceleration
Direct numerical simulations (DNS) of a transient turbulent channel flow subject to constant temporal acceleration have been performed with a final Reynolds number of \Retau=800. The response of turbulent structures to the temporal acceleration is investigated. A significant delay in the response of turbulent flow is observed in various turbulent properties. It is found that the response of turbulent flow to temporal acceleration consists of two stages: the destruction of the initial \emph{old} turbulence, followed by the generation of \emph{new} turbulence associated with a higher number. The \emph{new} turbulence is much stronger than the \emph{old} turbulence
The coastal-inland income gap in China from 1991 to 1999: the role of geography and policy
We investigate the enlarging coastal-inland income gap in China during the 1990s, using GMM estimation of a Solow growth model. Disaggregating capital investment by source: public, foreign and private: helps to disentangle the effect of policy from those of geography. The impact of public investment on growth is insignificant in our panel data for 29 provinces; that of foreign investment is significant; private investment is most influential. We also use the distance by railway of each province’s capital city to its nearest port city as a proxy for transportation costs, and find significant differences across regions. Distance has negative effects on economic development but its marginal impact effects become less as distance increases. The coastal-inland gap will grow in the foreseeable future, if inland areas are not able to benefit from an increase in private investment and infrastructure improvements (to reduce transport costs)
Modelling galaxy stellar mass evolution from z similar to 0.8 to today
We apply the empirical method built for redshift z = 0 in the previous work of Wang et al. to a higher redshift, to link galaxy stellar mass directly with its hosting dark matter halo mass at a redshift of around 0.8. The M(stars)-M(infall) relation of the galaxy stellar mass M(stars) and the host halo mass M(infall) is constrained by fitting both the stellar mass function and the correlation functions at different stellar mass intervals of Visible Multiobject Spectrograph-Very Large Telescope Deep Survey (VVDS) observations, where M(infall) is the mass of the hosting halo at the time when the galaxy was last the central galaxy. We find that for low-mass haloes, the residing central galaxies at high redshift are less massive than those at low redshift. For high-mass haloes, central galaxies in these haloes at high redshift are somewhat more massive than the galaxies at low redshift. Satellite galaxies are less massive at earlier times, for any given mass of hosting halo. Fitting both Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and VVDS observations simultaneously, we also propose a unified model of the M(stars)-M(infall) relation, which describes the evolution of central galaxy mass as a function of time. The stellar mass of a satellite galaxy is determined by the M(stars)-M(infall) relation of central galaxies at the time when the galaxy is accreted and becomes a subcomponent of a larger group. With these models, we study the amount of galaxy stellar mass increase from z similar to 0.8 to the present day through galaxy mergers and star formation. Low-mass galaxies (< 3 x 1010 h-1 M(circle dot)) gain their stellar masses from z similar to 0.8 to z = 0 mainly through star formation. For galaxies of higher mass, we find that the increase of stellar mass solely through mergers from z = 0.8 can make massive galaxies a factor similar to 2 larger than observed at z = 0, unless the satellite stellar mass is scattered to intracluster stars by gravitational tidal stripping or to the extended halo around the central galaxy, which is not counted in local observations. We can also predict stellar mass functions for redshifts up to z similar to 3, and the results are consistent with the latest observations. In future, more precise observational data will allow us better to constrain our model
