On unitary convex decompositions of vectors in a JBJB^{*}-algebra

    No full text
summary:By exploiting his recent results, the author further investigates the extent to which variation in the coefficients of a unitary convex decomposition of a vector in a unital JBJB^{*}-algebra permits the vector decomposable as convex combination of fewer unitaries; certain C C^{*}-algebra results due to M. Rørdam have been extended to the general setting of JBJB^{*}-algebras

    Operator means in JB-algebras

    No full text
In this paper, the notion of operator means in the setting of JB-algebras is introduced and their properties are studied. Many identities and inequalities are established, most of them have origins from operators on Hilbert space but they have different forms and connotations, and their proofs require techniques in JB-algebras.Comment: 1

    Lie-Trotter means in JB-algebras

    No full text
We initiate the study of Lie-Trotter means in JB-algebras, which is an extension of Lie-Trotter formulas in JB-algebras. We show that two-variable Lie-Trotter means include the weighted arithmetic mean, weighted harmonic mean, weighted geometric mean, and weighted spectral geometric mean. Consequently, several generalized Lie-Trotter formulas in JB-algebras are derived. Additionally, we demonstrate that the Sagae-Tanabe mean and Hansen's induction mean in JB-algebras are multivariable Lie-Trotter means. In the end, using arithmetic-geometric-harmonic mean inequalities we provide a characterization of multivariate Lie-Trotter means.Comment: 18 page

Confirming two conjectures of Su and Wang on binomial coefficients

    No full text
AbstractTwo conjectures of Su and Wang (2008) concerning binomial coefficients are proved. For n⩾k⩾0 and b>a>0, we show that the finite sequence Cj=(n+jak+jb) is a Pólya frequency sequence. For n⩾k⩾0 and a>b>0, we show that there exists an integer m⩾0 such that the infinite sequence (n+jak+jb), j=0,1,… , is log-concave for 0⩽j⩽m and log-convex for j⩾m. The proof of the first result exploits the connection between total positivity and planar networks, while that of the second uses a variation-diminishing property of the Laplace transform

    Detonation reaction-zone structure of JB-9014

    No full text
The structure of reaction-zone of JB-9014 explosive was investigated using photoelectric technique. For one dimensional steady detonation wave of JB-9014 (1.894 g/cm3), the Neumann spike pressure was 36.5 GPa, the width of reaction-zone was 1.75 mm, and the period of reaction was 0.31 μs. It is found that the width of reaction-zone and the period of reaction decrease with the explosive density

Suzuki Type Estimates for Exponentiated Sums and Generalized Lie-Trotter Formulas in JB-Algebras

    No full text
Lie-Trotter-Suzuki product formulas are ubiquitous in quantum mechanics, computing, and simulations. Approximating exponentiated sums with Jordan product formulas are investigated in the setting of JB-algebras. We show that the Suzuki type approximation for exponentiated sums holds in JB-algebras, we give explicit estimation formulas, and we deduce three generalizations of Lie-Trotter formulas for arbitrary number elements in such algebras. We also extended the Lie-Trotter formulas in a Jordan Banach algebra from three elements to an arbitrary number of elements.Comment: 12 page
