Wang Shuo and the commercialisation of contemporary Chinese culture
This thesis examines the commercialisation of Chinese culture that has taken place over the past twenty years in mainland China. It explores the contribution of Wang Shuo, a cultural figure who straddles different fields of culture, moving from literature to the ultimate mass culture medium of television, this study plots Wang Shuo' s development from educational failure, to business failure, to fiction writer, film & TV editor, film director and cultural critic and analyst. His stories, films, TV series and articles have caused shock-waves throughout national cultural circles as he has transformed the terms of the debate from academic discourse to a validation of the role of the market in the culture field. Although Wang Shuo has not been labelled as a dissident, his approach to the culture market has had a more subversive effect on official ideology that those overt dissidents who have had to live in exile or have been imprisoned. He has utilised the language of official ideology to satirise the authorities, turning the ideology and its supporters into figures of fun. Yet his own goals have been strictly personal and economic ones. The authorities recognize the value of Wang Shuo's work in the cultural market but at the same time distrust his works and place him under strict censorship. Examining the way Wang Shuo and people surround him have succeeded in different fields of cultural achievement is a mirror to understanding the process of the transformation of contemporary Chinese culture from a socialist state-controlled culture to a market-oriented mass culture industry
A Triangular Periodic Table of Elementary Circuit Elements
Chua proposed an Elementary Circuit Element
Quadrangle including the three classic elements (resistor, inductor,
and capacitor) and his formulated, named memristor as
the fourth element. Based on an observation that this quadrangle
may not be symmetric, I proposed an Elementary Circuit Element
Triangle, in which memristor as well as mem-capacitor and mem-inductor lead three basic element classes, respectively. An intrinsic mathematical relationship is found to support this new classification. It is believed that this triangle is concise, mathematically
sound and aesthetically beautiful, compared with Chua’s quadrangle. The importance of finding a correct circuit element table is similar to that of Mendeleev’s periodic table of chemical elements in chemistry and the table of 61 elementary particles in physics, in terms of categorizing the existing elements and predicting new elements. A correct circuit element table would also request to rewrite the 20th century textbooks

New porphyrin/Cu(II) porphyrin-TiO2 nanohybrids for improved photocatalytic oxidation and reduction activities
Two new porphyrins 5,10,15,20-tetra[3-((ethoxycarbonyl)propoxy)phenyl] porphyrin (H2Pp1), 5,10,15,20-tetra[3-((carboxyl)propoxy)phenyl] porphyrin (H2Pp2) and their copper porphyrins (CuPp1, CuPp2) were synthesized and characterized spectroscopically. The corresponding porphyrin/Cu(II) porphyrin-TiO2 nanohybrids (H2Pp1-TiO2, H2Pp2-TiO2, CuPp1-TiO2, CuPp2-TiO2) were then prepared and characterized. These nanohybrids have the same anatase structure as bare TiO2 with BET specific surface area of 117.96–151.76 m2 g−1. There exists the heterojunction at the interface of porphyrin/Cu(II) porphyrin and TiO2 within nanoscale. The photocatalytic performances of these nanohybrids were investigated by 4-NP oxidative degradation, as well as reduction to 4-AP. These photocatalysts exhibit high photocatalytic activities compared with bare TiO2 and individual porphyrin/Cu(II) porphyrin. With CuPp2-TiO2 as photocatalyst, the 4-NP degradation can be finished within 25 min, and 4-NP is reduced to 4-AP in 6 min. The main active species are photogenerated hole, hydroxyl radical and superoxide free radical during the photodegradation of 4-NP. The possible photocatalytic Z-scheme mechanism is suggested. In this case, the photogenerated holes from VB of TiO2 and electrons from CB of H2Pp/CuPp are the main drive force for the high photocatalytic activity
“(S)he so hearty” Gender cues, stereotypes, and expectations of warmth in peer-to-peer accommodation services
The hospitality industry is witnessing continuous growth in the number of female travellers and female hosts available to accommodate travellers in their properties using peer-to-peer (P2P) service platforms. Cues that convey information about the host's gender are therefore acquiring notable relevance. Tourism research, however, has not yet devoted attention to this phenomenon. To fill this gap, the present paper investigates whether and how gender cues conveyed on P2P accommodation platforms affect users' expectations and booking intentions. Across three experimental studies, the paper demonstrates that such cues affect users' expectations in a P2P accommodation context, but not in a hotel accommodation context. In particular, regardless of the hosts' race, female cues, compared to male cues, appear more able to create expectations of warmth and this effect is evident for users who have a strong gender stereotyping tendency. Importantly, enhanced expectations of warmth exert a positive influence on users' reservation intentions

Object orientation without extending Z
The good news of this paper is that without extending Z,
we can elegantly specify object-oriented systems, including encapsulation,
inheritance and subtype polymorphism (dynamic dispatch). The
bad news is that this specification style is rather different to normal
Z specifications, more abstract and axiomatic, which means that it is
not so well supported by current Z tools such as animators. It also enforces
behavioural subtyping, unlike most object-oriented programming
languages. This paper explains the proposed style, with examples, and
discusses its advantages and disadvantages

Exploring Environmental Collaboration and Greenwashing in Construction Projects: Integrative Governance Framework
Environmental collaboration between organizations involved in construction projects enables the efficiency of environmental management to gain environmental sustainability. Yet, in many projects, this collaboration is gamed promoting contractor greenwashing behavior, thereby diminishing the effectiveness of environmental management. What is unclear are the underpinning mechanisms to concurrently increase environmental collaboration and decrease contractor greenwashing behavior in construction projects. We used an integrated theoretical framework based on social exchange theory and transaction cost economics to evaluate the potential linear, curvilinear, and combined influence of interorganizational trust and formal contracts on environmental collaboration and contractor greenwashing behavior. Drawing evidence from questionnaire surveys, we find that two categories of interorganizational trust yield positive impacts on environmental collaboration and different curvilinear impacts on greenwashing behavior. Two categories of formal contracts exert an inverted U-shaped effect on environmental collaboration and heterogeneous effects on greenwashing behavior. We also find that formal contracts negatively moderate the effects of interorganizational trust on environmental collaboration, and interorganizational trust negatively moderates the impact of formal contracts on greenwashing. We provide novel insights into the interorganizational governance mechanisms regarding greenwashing in construction projects relevant for construction managers concerned with the environmental efficiency-effectiveness
New S-g-C3N4 based photocatalytic mortar with long-term photocatalytic performance by constructing three-dimensional structure Mg-Al layered double hydroxides
The weak long-term photocatalytic performance of photocatalytic cementitious materials under real-life service conditions has always been one of the main factors restricting their large-scale application. A novel stable three-dimensional structure of S-g-C3N4/MgAl-LDH was constructed by composing S-g-C3N4 with MgAl-LDH, aiming to improve its compatibility with cement mortar to achieve ideal long-term photocatalytic performance under natural exposure. Taking S-g-C3N4 as reference, the possible contributions of MgAl-LDH on improving the mechanical strength and long-term photocatalytic performance of mortar was analyzed by XRD, TG/DTG, SEM-EDX and isothermal calorimetry. The result shows that since the high specific surface area and refinement of MgAl-LDH, the dense surface morphology and fewer surface defects jointly promote the improvement of strength. When the content of S-g-C3N4/MgAl-LDH is 6 %, the 28d compressive strength of composite mortar is excellent, which is 28.7 % higher than the pure cement mortar. More importantly, under the stimulation of the calcium-rich layer on the surface of S-g-C3N4/MgAl-LDH, the accumulation of a large amount of gelling hydration products is beneficial to the stable long-term photocatalytic performance of S-g-C3N4/MgAl-LDH doped mortar. After 180 days of natural exposure, the NOx removal rate of the CMSL-8 % sample can still remain at 68.3 % of the original value (328 μmol·m−2·h−1). This research provides a new theoretical basis for photocatalytic cementitious materials to achieve ideal long-term photocatalytic performance
