Is Prescribing Physical Activity for Older Adults Reliable and Applicable?
This article critiques a proposed solution for enhancing the health of elderly individuals through exercise, highlighting two key areas for improvement. First, it argues for more precise exercise descriptions tailored to specific races and sexes, citing differences in physiology and disease outcomes that necessitate individualized approaches to avoid potential harm. Second, it addresses the lack of guidance on monitoring patient compliance and assessing the effectiveness of prescribed physical activities, as current recommendations, including those from the WHO, fail to provide methodologies for post-prescription follow-up
Characteristics of Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio of InSight Seismic Data from Mars
These files contain spectra and softwares for the Short Period (SP) seismic data of InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) Mars mission. The spectra are obtained from the onboard SP data, ground SP data and ground VBB data using the HVSR (horizontal to vertical spectral ratio) method and PSD (power spectral density) analysis method. Detailed description of these files are included in the README.txt file
Medical Equity: The Eventual Goal of Health Care
Medical equity is the fundamental principle that all individuals should have equal access to high-quality healthcare services, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, or geographic location. Achieving medical equity is essential for improving health outcomes and reducing disparities in healthcare delivery. This goal requires addressing systemic barriers such as discrimination, stigma, and lack of access to resources that prevent marginalized populations from receiving appropriate care. Implementing policies and programs that promote medical equity will help ensure that everyone has the opportunity to lead a healthy life. By prioritizing equity in healthcare delivery, we can work towards creating a more just and inclusive society where every individual has the opportunity to achieve optimal health and well-being
PCA-Kriging-Based Oscillating Jet Actuator Optimization and Wing Separation Flow Control
In order to improve the separation control effect of an oscillating jet, the external flow field of the actuators and the wing wake are obtained via hot-wire measurements to optimize the actuator and achieve wing separation flow control. The optimization objectives are to improve the sweeping uniformity and range of the jet. In the present study, the PCA method is used for the modal decomposition of the velocity distribution. The modal-based actuator evaluation parameters are proposed, and the kriging surrogate models of the modal coefficients (principal components) on the actuator parameters are established. The multi-objective genetic algorithm was utilized to complete the optimization of the actuator, and the effect of flow separation control on the wing was verified. The results show that three patterns exist in the time-averaged velocity distribution of the external flow field: unimodal, broad and bimodal, from unimodal to bimodal, the degree of the jet sweeping uniformity gradually decreases, and the sweeping range gradually increases. The pattern of the velocity distribution modals affects the degree of jet sweeping uniformity, while the distance of the modal peaks affects the jet sweeping range. The two evaluation parameters are negatively correlated: insufficient sweeping range or poor sweeping uniformity of the jet are not conducive to wing separation flow control, and the two must be coordinated to achieve the optimal control effect
Assessing the Effectiveness of Administrative District Realignments Based on a Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression Model
The long-term effects of administrative division adjustments on economic development in Dalian City, China, is presently unclear. Therefore, we employed a geographically and temporally weighted regression model to construct an index assessment system using the annual number of newly registered enterprises as the dependent variable. We empirically studied the effects of administrative division adjustments of townships in Dalian City from 2010 to 2020. The results showed that: (i) adjustments in townships administrative divisions negatively affected regional enterprise concentrations and economic development in general, whereas industrial and transportation factors demonstrated positive effects to variable degrees, and the effects of policy, location, and population factors were not significant. (ii) Over time, the effects of townships administrative division adjustments changed from positive to negative, and the negative effects displayed an increasing trend, revealing that (iii) the effect of administrative division adjustments in Dalian City was positive and negative over time. This further reveals the objective problem that administrative division adjustment in recent years was effective over the short term, but not over the long term. (iv) During the study period, administrative division adjustments positively affected regional enterprise concentrations and economic development solely during a short time frame and in a small geographical area. However, its negative effects increased extensively, which infers that maintaining a relatively stable administrative division is more beneficial for promoting economic development in Dalian City
Dynamic core-satellite investing using higher order moments : an explicit solution
The goal of core-satellite investing is to optimally balance the portfolio allocation between a core and satellite investment. This paper provides an explicit solution when the investor's optimality criterion is the third-order and fourth-order expansion of the expected utility function, respectively. Based on a numeric example, we document the sensitivity of the proposed weights to coskewness and cokurtosis components. Finally, we use ETFs to examine the portfolio performance of the core-satellite strategy with higher order moments. We document that integrating the higher order moment in core-satellite investing can improve the financial performance of a portfolio
An overview of corpus.
Precise and real-time measurements of economic prosperity are vital to a country’s economic system. This study aims to identify news topics that promoted economic prosperity in China from 2011–2021. By extracting economic topics from news text data, we construct a news coincidence index with comprehensive information and strong timeliness and reveal the trend of topic contribution. The Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic model is applied to extract economic topics from the news. We use a mixed-frequency dynamic factor model to track rapid economic development without using high-frequency weekly and daily data. We identify the six most influential topics and investigate their evolution, which may serve as a reference for economic construction and regulation.</div
