A new reduced control design based on the theory of wave domaincontrol
The work in this paper is based on the theory discussed previously by Wang et al. (1994). The main idea is to establish a transformation, which changes the original system into an image system, in which the control force is designed in the context of wave domain control and wave control, so that the number of degrees of freedom in the undisturbed state of the image system can be reduced. The design of control in the original system can be derived by inverse transformation. This method, compared with the previous one, is more general and is easy to apply.published_or_final_versio
Coded modulation with APSK for OFDM-based visible light communications
Coded modulation with APSK is proposed for OFDM-based VLC systems. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves better performance than conventional QAM counterpart in both DCO-OFDM and ACO-OFDM systems, while similar complexity is maintained
Development and optimisation of a duplex real-time reverse transcription quantitative PCR assay targeting the VP7 and NS2 genes of African horse sickness virus
Nucleotide sequences of 52 South African isolates of African horse sickness virus (AHSV) collected during 2004–2005 and including viruses of all nine AHSV serotypes, were used to design and develop a duplex real-time reverse transcription quantitative PCR (RT-PCR) assay targeting the VP7 (S8) and NS2 (S9) genes of AHSV. The assay was optimized for detection of AHSV in fresh and frozen blood of naturally infected horses. Assay performance was enhanced using random hexamers rather than gene-specific primers for RT, and with denaturation of double-stranded RNA in the presence of random hexamers. The assay was efficient with a linear range of at least five orders of magnitude. The analytical sensitivity of the assay was 132 copies of the target genes (4125 copies per ml of blood), and the assay was at least 10-fold more sensitive than virus isolation on BHK-21 cells. The assay was also highly specific because it did not detect related orbiviruses, such as bluetongue and equine encephalosis viruses.ID: S0166093410000893; M3: Article; Accession Number: S0166093410000893; Author: M. Gordon Quan oral history interview and transcript
This recording and transcript form part of a collection of oral history interviews conducted by the Chao Center for Asian Studies at Rice University. This collection includes audio recordings and transcripts of interviews with Asian Americans native to or living in Houston.Gordon Quan was born in Guangzhou, China in 1948. He moved to San Antonio, Texas at the age of three and grew up entirely in the United States. Eldest of five siblings, Gordon grew up in a Baptist household. His father immigrated to the United States from Guangzhou, and his mother is from the state of Georgia in the United States. Gordon studied at the University of Texas and graduated with a degree in History and Government. He then received his teaching credentials and taught in the Houston Independent School District for many years. During his time as a teacher, he earned his Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling at the University of Houston, as well as his law degree at the South Texas College of Law. He has served on Houston’s City Council and continues to work as an immigration attorney. He was one of the founding members of the Chinese Baptist Church and continues to remain active in the community, devoting time to organizations such as the Asia Society Texas Center, Houston Greeters, East Houston Redevelopment Authority, and Catholic Charities
