[[alternative]]A Few Issues with Wang Bo's "Preface to the Pavilion of Prince Teng" and an Analysis of the Textual Differences between Prefaces to Poems by Wang Bo in Shosoin Treasure House and Wang Bo Ji zhu
Shosoin Treasure House owns a manuscript copy of Prefaces to Poems by Wang Bo. It is dated 707 (the 4th year of the Keiun era) and from the Zetian characters (Chinese characters mandated by Empress Wu) used in the text, we can ascertain that the copy was produced after the death of Wang Bo. An introduction by Yang Jiong was added to the preface of the original The Collected Works of Wang Bo. If we compare this copy with China's existing collections of essays such as the Longqing version of Wenyuan yinghua (Blossoms and flowers of the literature garden) and Jiang Qingyi's Wang Bo Ji zhu (Annotations to Wang Bo's Collected Works), we can discover its textual differences. It is possible to restore The Collected Works of Wang Bo to their original state by examining the similarities and differences in the texts. The author first uses Wang Bo's most famous work "Preface to Poems Composed on Ascending the Pavilion of the Prince of Teng in Hong Prefecture on an Autumn Day for a Farewell Feast" (hereafter "Preface to the Pavilion of Prince Teng") as an example of how such analysis can be conducted. Research on "Preface to the Pavilion of Prince Teng" has been published in an article by Huang Renke in Journal of Chinese Literary Studies (Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences Institute of Literature 1984). The article contains detailed analysis of the "Preface." However, it does not discuss the copy held in Shosoin Treasure House. Chen Weiqiang's article "Collation Notes on Wang Bo's 'Preface to the Pavilion of Prince Teng' and a preliminary study of the scroll version of Prefaces to Poems by Wang Bo preserved in Japan" in Bibliography Quarterly (Vol. 35, Issue 3, 2001) will also be considered and discussed.[[fileno]]201_JA06_2011_v6[[fileno]]201_JA06_2011_p155_p20

Non-CEO executives' intraorganizational competition incentives and corporate labour investment efficiency
This study examines the impact of non-Chief Executive Officer (non-CEO) executives' intraorganizational promotion-based incentives, also known as tournament incentives, on corporate labour investment efficiency. We find that tournament incentives lead to inefficient labour investment, measured as the absolute deviation from optimal net hiring warranted by firm fundamentals. This positive relationship is weakened when non-CEO executives are less eager to compete in the tournament. Mediating analysis demonstrates that reduced team cohesion, captured by non-CEO executive turnover, mediates the relationship between tournament incentives and labour investment inefficiency. Our evidence is consistent with the dysfunctional view of tournament incentives and highlights the importance of non-CEO executives' incentives in corporate labour investment.</p

Community social capital and board advising: evidence from the structure of board committees
We investigate how community social capital, captured by the strength of cooperative norms and social networks within a geographical community, affects the internal structure of corporate boards. We find that firms headquartered in high-social-capital US counties have a more advising-intensive board structure, as they are more likely to set up specialised advisory committees and appoint more advisory directors. These findings are robust to endogeneity concerns and a battery of sensitivity tests. Our mediation analysis shows that the increased board advising intensity, induced by community social capital, reduces investment inefficiency. We further reveal that community social capital reduces board monitoring intensity and directors’ monitoring efforts. Overall, our results are consistent with the argument that community social capital serves as a societal monitoring mechanism to reduce firms’ need for board monitoring and, hence, firms’ boards located in high-social-capital communities focus more on advising
Short-term prediction for bike-sharing service using machine learning
The bike-sharing service has brought many conveniences to citizens and served as an effective supplement to the mass transit system. For docked bike-sharing service, each docking station has the designated location to store bikes and the station could be empty or saturated in different times. Bike-sharing operators generally redistribute bikes between stations by driving trucks according to their experiences which might lead unnecessary human resources It is ineffective for the operators and inconvenient for users to access this service. Therefore, predicting an accurate number of available bikes in the stations is important for both the operators and users. This paper mainly focuses on the short-term forecasting for docking station usage in a case of Suzhou, China. Two latest and highly efficient models here, LSTM and GRU, are adopted to predict the short-term available number of bikes in docking stations with one-month historical data. Random Forest is used to compare as a benchmark. The results show that both RNNs (LSTM and GRU) and Random Forest able to achieve good performance with acceptable error and comparative accuracies. Random forest is more advantageous in terms of training time while LSTM with complex structures can predict better for the long term. The maximum difference between the real data and the predicted value is only 1 or 2 bikes, which supports the developed models are practically ready to use
The learning curve of linear-shaped gastroduodenostomy associated with totally laparoscopic distal gastrectomy
BACKGROUND: Linear-shaped gastroduodenostomy (LSGD) is a new method of intracorporeal reconstruction that is simpler to perform and associated with a lower rate of bile reflux than delta-shaped anastomosis. Here, we analyzed the learning curve of LSGD in totally laparoscopic distal gastrectomy.
METHODS: The cumulative sum method was used to retrospectively analyze consecutive gastric cancer patients undergoing intracorporeal gastroduodenostomy after distal gastrectomy between January 2009 and May 2016. The duration of surgery, postoperative complications, hospital stay, and endoscopic findings in the postoperative period and the first, third, and fifth year were evaluated according to the two phases of the learning curve (learning period versus mastery period).
RESULTS: Data from 222 patients were included in the analysis. The LSGD learning period was 29 cases. The surgical time in mastery period was significantly shorter than the learning period (124.9 ± 34.5 versus 168.2 ± 42.0 min, p < 0.001). The incidence of minor complications was significantly reduced after the learning period (p = 0.041), although there was no statistically significant difference in the rate of major complications. The long-term endoscopic findings showed that the presence of residual food decreased over the time (p = 0.022).
CONCLUSIONS: LSGD can be mastered easily after a reasonable number of cases and was associated with safe and satisfactory short- and long-term outcomes before and after learning curve.ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS i

The Pity of Spring: A Southern Topos Reimagined by Wang Bo and Li Bai
“The pity of spring in my heart,” an enigmatic phrase in the conclusion to the ancient Chu poem “Summons to the Soul,” became an important topos of poetic composition during the Tang. The early Tang poet Wang Bo and the High Tang poet Li Bai both employed it in their writings, embellishing on the phrase as a way of expressing their conflicted feelings about travel, the South, and life itself. The process of elaboration and refinement of the phrase is a revealing case study in the development of Tang poetry.link_to_subscribed_fulltex
