No full textO artigo se propõe a revisitar a trajetória de Maria Augusta Rui Barbosa (1855 –1948), através de relatos e vestígios encontrados no acervo do MCRB sobre ela. Para tanto, 1 será utilizado o método da escrita constelacional proposto por Jeremy F. Walton, com embasamento teórico da publicação Memória e Paisagem: em busca do simbólico dos lugares, de Otávio José Lemos Costa. Como resultado, espera-se que, com a aplicação desta proposta metodológica, seja possível elaborar percursos biográficos daquelas/es que não tiveram sua trajetória evidenciada.The article proposes the construction of a trajectory of Maria Augusta Rui Barbosa through reports and traces found about her. For this purpose, the method of constellation writing, proposed by Jeremy F. Walton, will be used, based on the theoretical publication Memory and Landscape: in search of the symbolic of places by Otávio José Lemos Costa. As a result, it is expected that, with the application of this methodological proposal, it will be possible to elaborate biographical paths of those who did not have their trajectory evidenced.El artículo propone la construcción de una trayectoria de Maria Augusta Rui Barbosa a través de informes y rastros encontrados sobre ella. Para ello, se utilizará el método de escritura de constelaciones, propuesto por Jeremy F. Walton, a partir de la publicación teórica Memoria y Paisaje: en busca de la simbólica de los lugares, de Otávio José Lemos Costa. No full textThe present essay offers an overview of the heritage protection regulations that were issued in a number of European States in the 18th century. The purpose of the discussion is to demonstrate that the innovations of the Enlightenment had profound implications on the construction of new practices for safeguarding what was thought of as “heritage” in each relevant context. As will be argued, diverse factors contributed to a widespread increasing awareness of the need to protect “juridically” the treasures of the state, including, most significantly, the launch of excavation campaigns across Europe and models offered in bordering countries. In this context, it will become evident that these early elaborations constituted the ground for the modern understanding of the concepts of “heritage” and “protection” in Europe
Publishing Time Dependent Oceanographic Visualizations using VRML
Get PDFOceanographic simulations generate time dependent data; thus, visualizations of this data should include and realize the variable `time'. Moreover, the oceanographers are located across the world and they wish to conveniently communicate and exchange these temporal realizations. This publication of material may be achieved using different methods and languages. VRML provides one convenient publication medium that allows the visualizations to be easily viewed and exchanged between users. Using VRML as the implementation language, we describe five categories of operation. The strategies are determined by the level of calculation that is achieved at the generation stage compared to the playing of the animation. We name the methods: 2D movie, 3D spatial, 3D flipbook, key frame deformation and visualization program
Muslim civil society and the politics of religious freedom in Turkey
No full textThe sway of Islam in political life is an unavoidable topic of debate in Turkey today. Secularists, Islamists, and liberals alike understand the Turkish state to be the primary arbiter of Islam's place in Turkey—as the coup attempt of July 2016 and its aftermath have dramatically illustrated. Yet this emphasis on the state ignores the influence of another field of political action in relation to Islam, that of civil society. Based on ethnographic research conducted in Istanbul and Ankara, Muslim Civil Society and the Politics of Religious Freedom in Turkey is Jeremy F. Walton's inquiry into the political and religious practices of contemporary Turkish-Muslim Nongovernmental Organizations. Since the mid-1980s, Turkey has witnessed an efflorescence of NGOs in tandem with a neoliberal turn in domestic economic policies and electoral politics. One major effect of this neoliberal turn has been the emergence of a vibrant Muslim civil society, which has decentered and transformed the Turkish state's relationship to Islam. Muslim NGOs champion religious freedom as a paramount political ideal and marshal a distinctive, nongovernmental politics of religious freedom to advocate this ideal. Walton's study offers an accomplished, fine-grained perspective on this nongovernmental politics of religious freedom and the institutions and communities from which it emerges
